Oh it does Mel, it helps a great deal! This has always been something that has been in the back of my mind when playing on boards that had several terrain pieces with trees on them. In most cases, the trees all looked pristine, which looks great of course, but I was always thinking that trees on a battlefield would for the most part be blown to pieces, on fire, or burnt to a crisp. On average, I would think that only a few of those trees would actually look unscathed, and the rest would all have damage of some sort ranging anywhere from a few limbs being blown off to full stances of trees being burnt to a crisp with a myriad of craters all around them from artillery barrages. To date, I’ve never seen a muddy grassland type board have this kind of terrain theme. I’m sure someone somewhere has done it, but they would likely be in the minority I think. Hmmm... there’s a challenge for you Mel. You may have already done this, and I just haven’t seen the video yet, but it would be great to see you create a full set of scatter terrain that keeps with the theme/aesthetic I previously talked about. One that really gives the look and feel of a truly war torn battlefield. In addition to that you could do the same theme with ruined cities, or mountainous hills. Just an idea. I know a series of videos like that would be pretty popular for all us tabletop war gamers, including myself. 😉

Usually I cut some triangles from the bases of those trees to look like roots... it looks more realistic...

Fantastic video, one thing I’m left wondering is how to make the ground look like it’s still smouldering. Like small cracks of molten earth in the centre of the burnt area, or some of the edges of the burnt grass that’s still burning.
I'd probably drybrush them with an orange mate and then with white mate

Hmmm... Those pine trees seems much larger than the ones Woodland Scenics currently sells. I use the tallest (6 inches), and in my eyes they seem too small to be convincing in 28mm scale.
I bought some epvc to experiment on and I've watched a few of your videos on EPVC and the glues to work with, but I have a question. When you're using PVA to attatch the base flock etc, have you sanded the epvc board first (the flat area) or are you utting it straight onto the board as it is? ...

I never knew I had to let the tacky glue turn clear. Is that the same rule with the stuff that comes with the trees? I really should read the little books that come in the box.
Yep, stay tacky has to go clear first, spread it thin as nothing is gained from a thick application
OMG when i saw you making those woodland scenics trees and it stuck to your finger it took me back to me making them and my cat Jax sitting on it and all the Terrainiacs comments in the live stream of "ive heard of a cat in a tree but never a tree in a cat", great video Mel, i plan on using this on a diorama, what brown would you use to take it off black, light or dark brown or wouldn't it matter?

I've bought some Woodland Scenics tree and this Hob-E-Tac sticky glue two months ago, and I confirm that can give incredible woods very easily. So, firstly, thanks Mel for this didactic video. Very useful.
And, the most important for me, a big thanks for the hob-e-tac close-up, 'cause I've just realize that there is a brush on the hob-e-tac stick!!! (yep... I've bought three hob-e-tac glues... and the first and only I used since this day... is the only broken stick without brush !! - and that's a pain-in-the-a** to use without the brush!!). By luck, the others stick got their brush! ^_^
Anyway, I've got two questions :
1) I've used some Water+Glue on the finished woodland trees. Do you think it's useful or totally useless?
2) To be more useful to be store, I suggest to not glue the trees on their base (but to glue the tree base on the woodland base, of course). You can take off the trees during a game. Good or bad idea?
