    Welcome back to ProGuitarShop and ToneReport.com. Today, we’re seeing double with the Doubleland Special. The Doubleland Special combines two Overrated Special circuits side by side, with some innovate switching options at your feet. The original Overrated Special was designed for Joe Bonamassa with the intent on delivering D-style humble tones without the hefty weight or price tag. There is a ton of versatility to be found within the four controls, and the Doubleland Special lets you take advantage by giving you a fully-customizable two-channel Overrated Special. The second footswitch gives you a side swap effect, so you can set both channels completely differently and then switch between them when the time is right. The central toggle switch gets your amp sizzling, by activating both circuits in series. In this mode, Side A cascades into Side B, letting you use Side B’s Volume control as a master volume, while Side A’s control turns into a saturation knob for singing sustain or heavy overdrive. Each side of the Doubleland Special offers up the same control set but in either knob or slider formats. Joe Bonamassa likes to used the slider side for single coils while the left side is mainly for his Les Pauls. The magical 500Hz knob/slider lets you dial that particular band in and out of the mix for some throaty overdrive tones that work with either pickup. The Way Huge Doubleland Special also celebrates Way Huge's 25th Anniversary and contains a pick tin with Way Huge and Joe's own Jazz III picks plus each of the 1000 units made are signed by the man himself and manufactured right here in the states.

    Mine came I love it with HSS Strat or straight Strat single coil and other Les Paul/ humbuckers. Has a great sound. Can’t see any of the dial settings, which I’d like to see the settings he is using.

    I've owned this pedal since March of last year; used it countless times live in a blues jam setting. I set one channel as rhythm tone, and stack the second side for really lovely saturated lead tones that cut through with no problems. For those who feel it is over-priced, over-rated, well I gotta say, for the amount of effort to find 2 pedals that can do this job in one (albeit slightly oversized) enclosure, I am happy to pay the premium. I get a lot of compliments of tone, regardless whether I am playing a Strat, SG, Les Paul, or my go-to Nighthawk Standard.

    Smart man "I've invented a Tube Screamer, wanna buy it?".
    Gullpible consumer "YES!".
    Smart man "How about a red Tube Screamer for more money?".
    Gullpible consumer "I'll take two".
    Smart man "Oh really 🤨, well how about two Tube Screamers held together with tape".
    Gullpible consumer "I'll pay ten times the price! I've been looking for weeks for something better then my Tube Screamers!".
    Smart Man "Bit of a secret here 🤫 but I built a Tube Screamer with oven dials for nobs, it's been signed by all the famous dudes, it has a psychedelic reindeer puke paint job and my 4 year old has written the drive and volume text on it with a child's paint brush. Problem is though it's as expensive as a house".
    Gullpible consumer "Every tube Screamer I've brought has just been a Tube Screamer, people dont understand this journey im on trying to find a Tube Screamer, then i sell them because they just sound like Tube Screamers, only you the makers of Tube Screamers fully understand me - now give me that Tube Screamer! 🤝🏻🤲🏻🏠".

      While the Overrated Special and the Doubleland Special share the aesthetics of a Dumble amp, they were never made to sound like one. In essence they're Green Rhino classics that were modified for Joe. Joe even talked about it in his demo video of the Overrated Special, look it up.

    • @DelusionalVoice
      @DelusionalVoice 7 років тому +1

      I mean clearly Bonamassa and his overrated playing saw that there was money to be made by copping everything you just named in your comment and slapping his name on it. Why else would you copy something's aesthetics like that anyway? If somebody built a Fender styled amp and chose Marshall aesthetics don't you think they'd miss their target market? And If you listen with your EARS, it does essentially what the Dumble tweaks, minus a few things I'm certain, do to a good fender blackface circuit which is bring the mids, including 500hz, forward. Don't get me wrong it sounds good, but there's no reason for any of this other than building the hype just like the real amp. As soon as they're all gone, they'll start popping up used online for double and triple what they sold for just like the real amp

    • @DJ7tringGuitar
      @DJ7tringGuitar 7 років тому +2

      Rummeroni Clearly you still haven't watched Joe's demo of the Overrated Special. He even joked about his playing being overrated and the aesthetics of his pedal saying that the Dumble is considered either the holy grail of amplifiers or it's overrated. The whole point of this pedal was to give him more overdrive to play his older material after he switched from using Marshalls, Dumbles, and whathaveyou to vintage highpowered Fender amps 😂😂😂 Now for pricing, I can't say the Overrated Special is anymore ridiculous than a brand new Green Rhino Mk IV. I bought one myself off Reverb for around $130 I think.
      EDIT: $160

      I am guessing that the switch is pcb mounted, so having a nut could result in pulling the switch off the board if tightened too much.

    It this made of titanium? Od junkie here with enough to open a store. I sit here in a pile of ODs doing the A-B comparison I got sub $100 generic drives matching or sounding better. ANY light gain OD gets you there. Ugly box, we know eventually sliders break, lights fails for $300 bucks. Love Wayhuge but this is Way going to be covered in dust.

    One can only own so many pedals before he figures it out. Most new pedals do the same damn thing as the ones sitting on your shelf or the ones on your pedal board. Everyone wants a piece of the market, so they keep making new pedals that look different in order to get us to spend the coin. I've been buying pedals since 1970 & I must say a distortion is a distortion as well as an overdrive is an overdrive & so on. Save your $$ for a guitar or a good vintage amp, because that's an investment worthwhile. Just saying :) Keep Rocking while it's still a free world lol.

      I think you're right, though I've stumbled upon exceptions. For instance, I wouldn't part with my Wampler Velvet Fuzz, or my EHX 5150 distortion. The 5150 makes magic happen to your tone and string reaction. And the Wampler sustains all day! But yea, if I was a hungry little fish snapping at every bit of bait lowered into the pond, I'd have a lot of duplicates. Can't argue there. The market is LOADED with wannabes, and regular introductions of the same pedal but with new paint and name.
      I would say - as for Way Huge though- their Saucy Box has a damn nice tone and price. I point people with low budgets to that one. Or to the Keeley Monterey which has 5 or 6 effects all in one, which add up to something cool ever so nicely. For anyone who's so cash low, one pedal has to do, it's a board in one, but still an analog pedal. So if they have $300, that's a lot of exciting bang for their buck. But if even a hundred dollars seems a lot for someone , then the Way Huge Saucy Box, or a Boss Blues Driver, or an Earthquaker Acapulco Gold...all of these are affordable prices for surprisingly nice-toned pedals. (I mean a lot of pedals sound tinky, and these don't. These are some exceptions. - For more money, I send people to Keeley, to hear quality, and pay more like $300 for it. Keeley makes great stuff! One pedal I didn't "snap at, like a hungry little fish" was the Keeley Steak & Eggs (a distortion and compressor in one). It was such a nice pedal! I just figured it'd be there later. Nope. And I'll always regret that. I missed a good one.
      And then there's the germaniums. Oh man, gotta have ONE ! It'll get ya some good squank, to add a SolidGold FX76. ..or for some frenetic qualities (which is what the instability of Germanium transistors offers), one could try a Magnetic Effects* germanium distortion pedal (the White Atom, or Solar Bender, for $140-ish). None of these are the kind of overpriced pedals that run $400+ because they have shimmer and beer knobs. *frown*
      (*The Magnetic Effects pedals are made in England though, and may be fine for American use, but one should check before spending there.)

    • @fukyuandthizshyt
      @fukyuandthizshyt 7 років тому

      I think what we're seeing Way Huge do with this pedal is join the trend of pedal makers feeling the need to put out at least one offering that has two distortions in one. And while I notice they tried to make their version of this fad useful somehow (eg, if you split your coils often, it might actually be convenient to have a double pedal, with settings for the single coil pups on one channel , and settings for your humbuckers on the other. They did try. They're a decent company.) But for me, when it comes to stacking two distortions together, I'd much prefer having 5 or so pedals on my board to chose from, so I can send my Sabbra Caddabra through my 5150, and see what happens. Or use a nice 'clean' distortion, like a Super Badass which isnt fuzz or overdrive, its just EQ'able gain really, but if you double that onto another distortion pedal that DOES add tone, sustain or squank that you want, then over the top we go!~!

    Add it to the list of JB endorsements. Fet driver, copper fuzz, black fuzz, overrated special, skinner burst humbuckers, palmer speaker simulator, signature gold top, firebird, the one off snakebite, the new high power tweed twin, guitar picks.....I am sure there is more. I used to be a huge jb fan until he became his own biggest fan. He's a great guitarist, no denying it.
