- Never did I ever think of making a "Premiere video" until now. The power of this song during End of Era, Tuomas' body language, and Tarja's epic performance created a "Moment o Truth". This reaction reminds me of my response to "I want My Tears Back, "Poet & Pendulum", and "Song of Myself".

Tarja's voice like the emotionalBOMB... she is my favorite!
This song is about Tarja, and how Thomas secretly always felt about her in his heart ❤, The line "My song can but borrow your grace", might refer to how Tuomas' music relates to Tarja's beautiful voice. The song is about confronting the person you truly love, and yearn to find out if they feel or ever felt the same way about you. In Thomas case towards Tarja. Even many people knew, that this song was strictly towards for Tarja. Mainly because of this dedication at the end of the song, where Thomas wrote ("All I ever craved were THE TWO DREAMS I SHARED WITH YOU. One I now have, will the other one ever dream remain. For yours I truly wish to be").
And even for what Tarja's husband said about Tuomas, loving her, Tarja.
Toumas really loved Tarja, and tried to tell her through his music and lyrics, that being the only best way he really knew how, which makes me very sad Tarja is gone.
In this video of The "End of an Era", Tuomas starts or feels he wants to cry, you can tell he knew it would be the last time those 2 perform that song together.😳
i do agree that he had strong feelings for her but it was not ones of love, for that would necessarily imply that she would be the center of his attention, not someone who always felt marginalized and unheeded
@@xeleelex146 I agree, like Mexico's incident where she was attacked and the band continues playing, and she was saved by her actual husband. I don't know if this story of lyrics inspired in Tarja are true, but I think Tarja never wanted more than friendship with Tuomas because before Marcelo she had other relationships with other guys. But until one of them open and tell what happened we will never know. Great story anyway.
I think you are right since in the making of Century Child ( End of Innocence documentary found on youtube) he says that the explanation for his sadness is written in Gethsamene and Everdream.
And the moment you point out in the song where he looks lost is very sad for that specific reason.

I Hope to see you all on Sunday. I have a few announcements at the beginning of this video, and had I realized this song would be so powerful (End of Era), I would have not had any announcements. SO, please bear with me. The song begins about 5 minutes in. I'm looking forward to reading comments and responding. Fingers crossed this will work. I may need to do a test as this will be done on the laptop. New equipment upgrade will arrive in the next week or so.
With tears in his eyes, Tuomas said goodbye to voice of band and to person he wrote song for and about.

The best one to watch from End of an Era for the body language is "I WIsh I Had an Angel", the last song. Tuomas finally lets it out at the end.

The "End Of An Era" video was my first intro to Nightwish. 'Dark Chest Of Wonders' was the first song I heard...and then there was 'Ever Dream'. When Tuomas out his head in his hands I felt that something wasn't right but I didn't know what the story was until the next day when I watched the video of Tarja, crying, saying she'd been fired from the band. I had to read the comment section to find out why. That was a sad day. I still remember that day.
when this angel, who brought so much joy to her fans, was crying it pained me so..
I also love Jukka he is such an expressive drummer he added so much to the band and started a bandana fashion which i wear a my work something different .. Thanks jukka so much ..and what a song so much power in it !!!!!!!!!!
You know Kelly, back then Nightwish was Tarja, you never thought there would be anyone else. There was no one to compare Tarja too, she was Nightwish. Maybe time will heal everything between Tuomas and Tarja, still. Nightwish new album was played to some music journalist in Finland and they cried when they listen to the album, and one wrote that people all over the world is going to cry over this album.

@Big Bill O'Reilly yah, music journalists, the ones who will slobber over any publicity money thrown their way by the pr wing of the music label...they were reciting a dirge for the former NW ...RIP the metal band ..and the emergence of a preachy folk/mood setting group..with the muted Floor virtually sidelined to a guess vocalist with Marco and another guy with unimpressive vocals taking over whole sections of recycled themed songs

NASA images of a few planets, superimpose a few movie scores over it and do his Al Gore routine about abusing natural resources and not succumbing to vanity...i could have produced a better album in my dingy, dark basement in far less time

Tarja’’s era with Nightwish was nothing short of spectacular, we were so spoilt to such wonderfully crafted songs and angelic singing. It’s been a long journey for us and we’ve experienced massive highs and lows but we’ve all witnessed the evolution of the band that has now seen Floor take up the mantel many many years ago....And we still are in total awe of Nightwish. April 10th sees the release of Floors 2nd studio album and Nightwish’s 9th opus. I remember buying Once (my first taste of NW) like it was yesterday, I am truly thankful to what they’ve given me and my fellow NW fans who have all shared something very, very special. Can’t wait until Human :2: Nature.
Simon, and this is why every moment in life is cherished. Everything has a place and time, and we are blessed to have 'lived'...((we were here)).
I was in the second or third row right in front of Tuomas and that gesture... it was one of the biggest clues that something was *wrong* . I mean, he's a dramatic performer, sure... but the entire atmosphere in the arena was off from the beginning, you know? I still don't like watching End of an Era because it always gives me this heavy feeling in my chest, like an echo of his pain I guess.

It kind of proved that she had to be let go, though. That other people (you) could tell something was wrong via how Tuomas was acting yet she couldn't. She either didn't notice, or noticed and didn't care. Odd for someone who would've known Tuomas for 10+ years by the time this concert was filmed.
@@kimberlyh.1090 Exactly. There's some backstage footage on the DVD and it's *really* clear there is a massive divide between her and the guys and a dark cloud hanging above it all. But I guess that had become the status quo and her focus wasn't with the band at all anymore. So... yeah. :/
@@Darnaguen If it had anything to do with her being sexually assaulted by the fan in Mexico (while they didn't react in time), that's something I could understand. But it's a secret that will always be between them I guess. It just sucks this had to end (especially with how it did).
@@kimberlyh.1090 I mean, I guess that was certainly one factor that made her turn to Marcelo (whom she wasn't even dating back then) instead of relying on her bandmates, but that happened back during the Wishmaster tour IIRC.

you know, Kelly, the ease with which she transitions from operatic sound to rock/metal delivery is nothing short of astounding....especially given her precarious throat condition on that last fateful night..went on and gave it all contrary to doctor's recommendation..a real pro....love you Tarja!...your voice still makes me dizzy
The beautiful and wonderful about nightwish is the passion that all their components feel for the music (specially Tuomas) and the complicity between them, only a few bands provide that feeling. Now with Floor ,Troy and Kai that even has been amplified.

This is a very sensitive topic for any old Nightwish fan. And there are two sides to the story, both had their reasons for separation and in the end only they know what they went through. Today Nightwish has an amazing singer, Tarja has proven that she can be much more than just a singer and I am happy to see them on stage smiling again.
This is exactly why I had this revelation of the power and beauty of Tarja, and the moments and the story....and so time moved on, and we are here, blessed by every single moment. Thank you Just TNWT for this comment.

It's amazing how each of these artists has this crazy ability to step inside you and deliver all the feelings that song carries. It's pure magic!

Tarja met Thomas, when they were both only 15 yrs old. They were very close even before they became Nightwish later. Its as that expression goes, regarding Thomas and Tarja, "When you love someone so much, and you cant be with them for what ever reason, its best to let them go."
you know, what i find most fascinating about this matter is that his love and appreciation of her should have induced him to be more attentive to her needs but it seems his ego was to much for his love for her to surmount...

This is the song what got me into metal not this performance but this song with Tarja got me into the wild ride that has now lasted for 10+ years (this was used in one kinda sad motorsport tribute video and finally i got nightwish after years of disliking them as a finn) so for me this is always the version i go for, i never get quite the goose bumps with Floors version. When it comes to your intro speech i do help out people who are starving and so on as i do charity work. I really don't have atm any money to give to someone so opt out to do help out charity with working for them.
its probably Tarja's sweet, clean, resonate voice that leads to goose bump arousal...at least that's what does it for me
I think you must travel to Kitee and see Nigtwish and Tuomas there and make some poems together with him. Maybe you know that plenty of fans go there in July? There is KIMAF happening. By the way...this is the most emotional Ever Dream live there is.
thank you , my dear, for another beautiful...heartfelt reaction.....kudos to Tarja for her tireless effort, despite running a high fever that day , for not only appearing at this last tour concert but doing such a magnificent job not only here but through the night in question...she was perspiring so much that she needed to change several outfits and clearly showed signs of weakness but persevered lest the fans be disappointed...in those days she had much trouble standing up for herself...and for all her efforts she was labeled a DIVA ...i can still see her tear-stained face during that last press conference...physically feeling her pain...Tuomas's hesitation, in the beginning, is the manifestation of his ego at war with his better reasoning...upshot is , his ego won...and the fans lost...poet and pendulum is his way of justifying the long desolate hate mail filled months following her departure, still deluding himself into placing all the blame on her narrow shoulders...followed by a spate of other songs painting her and Marcelo as the embodiment of evil...check out the careless way they dealt with an incident in Mexico in 2000, in which a crazed fan went after Tarja while on stage, and only Sami, the original bassist dropped his guitar and went to her aid and as she was visibly shaken and left the stage, the rest kept on playing as though nothing happened...classy , hah...i love Floor and only hope she does not run afoul of his ego....once again, you are the our hero and we love you...best wishes for the new year
My dearest March On: It was this song, and time digging into Tarja's performances that really opened my eyes to how much she gave, and the love shown by the fans- then the tears of understanding. As I said, all things are for a reason in time....and so we may look back and be thankful for every moment. You've provided a clear image for the mind's eye and heart for that moment in time. Do also a song called " Two for Tragedy"...there is a photo clip video of it. Want to hear your analysis of it. By the way...you know them pretty deeply to be one year journey traveler with them.
You can see the gears turning in Tuomas' head..."How thew hell am I EVER going to replace this spectacular singer?". It must have terrified him to have to let her go...it probably felt like the end of the band was on the horizon and he was devastated. Did you see when the song ended, he turned and walked away from his keyboards? Well, we all know how it all turned out in the end...better for all parties involved. Cheers!
Yes.....he slammed the last chord down and turned away. Very powerful and there was something hovering over that entire performance. In the end with time it was as it should be.
I think it was not only 'How would they ever be able to replace her?' but also, 'How can we do this to her? All the doubts, 'Is it right?' And of course that replacemnt idea was there too, just in that state of mind, I think all possible and impossible thoughta will run through your mind. 'And then there's this song at hand, just now'.

Winterstom member.😂 As Tarja calls her fans after one of her albums. Better than Tarjaholic I suppose. 😅. Anyway yes powerful. Tarja is a method actress. She inhabits the songs. Puts her heart into everything she sings.

4 short years with both Tarja and Marko and glad to say they reconciled in 2017. Were on stage im Switerland July 08th, and will be on stage again together in August. Well we hope together. Last month for the 1st time since this night they sang Phantom of the Opera again.
What emotion. What connection.
There has been a thawing of relations between the ex band mates. 18 years on the magic is still there

he was crying because he knew he will never again hear her exquisite delivery close up and her departure took with it his greatest inspiration for creating epic melodies...
Maybe Tuomas did feel a sting. Or maybe he only felt the weight of the decision. He wrote a lot of his personal feelings into the lyrics. Often the lyrics are written as first person, "I" and "my". He even put his admitted alter egos in there, and obviously Tarja's too.
But then they chose publically hurt her. For maximum pain and damage.
Past love had turned into poison. The letter was also written in first person. When relationships turn toxic, does love die? I suppose not, but it sure can get buried inside a thick twisting cover, too hard to find.
And it was signed by 3 other band members. They knew as much the writer did, that the letter twisted and told half truths, leaving readers with wrong ideas. They knew what was its purpose. Yet they signed it. Had they all turned into revengeful haters, willing to hurt and demonize? Or were they a bunch of greedy, spineless men, who sold their soul and honor?
I just have no respect for them. It was the most despicable thing to do.
Maybe the open letter was harsh to Tarja fans, but there's no lies there..A lot of research about this cleared my mind on the subject..I loved Tarja in NW, but same for the other two singers..should they decide to dump Floor and get another singer, sure, I won't like it, but I will still stick to the band, even if they get Noora Lohimo or Nitte Valo or simmilar ..As for Tarja, she's doing well enough solo, like she WANTED too and these days I kinda like what she's up to.
@@tonyelsom6382 I said: twists, half trues and left people with wrong ideas. Like they let us think that Tarja didn't come to sing Oslo, but she did. They let us think that she chose rather to hang with her friends, go to movies and vocal rehersals, but she wasn't told that the concert was sold and deal made: she had made her own plans, but she cancelled them and came to Oslo, when she learned about it.
She was accused telling to Tuomas that she could leave Nightwish any day, but she didn't: she gave them a LONG time to prepare, she gave her notice saying she would leave after the next album's world tour. But the band fired her without any warning.
The letter claimed Tarja wanted more money from the gigs. Yet it was Tarja (and Marcelo as her manager), who suggested cutting off gigs, and cutting away whole continents of the world tours, and this is provent to be the case: in the letter they rebuke Tarja when she said she would tour only two weeks at a time, and that she wanted to cancel North America part of the tour.
They blame her dedication, when she wanted to have her own career too (before she gave her notice). But Tuomas, Marko and Emppu all had their other bands and projects (about Jukka I don't know). Tarja only had plans, and obviously in the very late phase, yet only to her it is counted as disloyalty to the band, she had such plans.
The blame Tarja's attitude not travelling with the bus, but she did for years, and the tours exhausted her voice and health. That's why she fought to reduce the number of gigs, because the pace was too intense: 5 to 6 gigs a week. It was too intense for Anette too, who complained the same issue, and suffered even more vocal losses. Tarja explained she needed more rest, and she could not get it in the band bus, hence the hotel accommodation, but the band hates it and she gets demonized as diva.
(Edit, corrected the part, where I said every member had their bands: about Jukka I don't know).
@@tonyelsom6382 She wanted to change things! Why, if all she wanted was to leave? She tried to change things so she could continue doing the tours, and in so doing got in troubles with the band. She said things had been going bad direction for years, before she gave her notice. Yet she stayed and tried to change things.
Obviously she came to conclusion she can't continue any more, and gave the notice. And started to prepare her after Nightwish career.
(Had to write this comment again: UA-cam posts often multiple copies of my comment, and when I remove the copies, sometimes even if I see one comment was left, after reloading the page, all comments were removed, like now).
@@tonyelsom6382 So obviously the letter was far from honest, far from fair, and clearly meant to hurt her. EVEN IF all the claims would have been deserved, publishing such a letter was really mean, very low ethics, a rotten thing to do.
@@Aurinkohirvi Cool, I'm obviously not emotionally that much involved or invested in this part of the bands era, since I only heard their (Tarja era ) music in 2005 and then stumbled onto end of an era dvd much later, so yes, I pretty much nailed my outlook on the situation in my first post.

Kellky...i do not wish to offend you, but Tarja was their bright shining north star and now they are just a bunch of pale constellations...Floor is wonderful but her current vocal style, for me, is far from exciting...

unfortunately, Tuomas's onstage gesture (not to mention, constant liquor drenched celebration) is a reflection of Tuomas's utter false facade...he sees himself as a patriarch of a family for whom he did not show respect...she already gave him a 2.5 years prior notice...if he wanted to go on with it , past Tarja, then all he had to do was face her with some maturity and call it quits..instead, he decided to rub her face in it to punish her for wanting a different path...his only concern was with the tremendous fallout from that blasted letter..and he fittingly paid for it ..what a fool
