Another great video on the basics in reality. Keep it up Kevin. You’ve inspired me and my channel is really doing well. Old Mike says, “If you ain’t dead, you ain’t done.”
Subscribed to your channel OldMeLiving 😊 ...forwarded your video (original, discussing starting YT) to my 81-yr-old mom, but she just even wouldn't watch 😢 .. She'd be good at it, and I'm close by to help!! But, she thinks it's silly for her to try. (But she said the same about Facebook 15 yrs ago, too!). Ugh.🙄Perhaps, some day. Still, you are inspiring.
Awesome content and an important message Kevin. I turn 60 in a month or so, and I have been a full time UA-camr (LiveStreaming, primarily) for almost five years. It was never my intention, but it was the best move I have ever made.
Kevin, I want to let you know that watching your videos over the past few weeks has exploded my channel overnight. I took your advice and am in disbelief with the results. Now I'm trying hard to handle what I created and it happened in one video because of you. I can't thank you enough!
Great video, Kevin! I started a channel about 2 months ago and I’m still trying to figure out which formats I like (talking head, vlogging on the go, combo of the 2, b-roll with text and me talking to the camera in only 25% of the video etc). I’m having fun, though, and it’s always nice to see that someone saw my videos even if my subscriber count is low. Keep up the encouraging words!
Hi Kevin I’m new at UA-cam too almost 40 trying a faceless narration niche I love being a story teller. I just wanted to say thank you for all you’re good advice ❤ I love your content !
Another great video Kevin! Yes, time goes by faster as you get older. I was 63 a couple of weeks ago (it seems) and in a few short weeks I'll be 70. Absolutely unbelievable! Another thing you mentioned was some people won't like something about you. I struggled within myself about posting in my introduction video that I'm a Christian. I'm soooo glad that I did and stayed true to myself and stay transparent of who I am. I appreciate what you do my friend!
My friend and I are planning a podcast to post on UA-cam. We are both 70 and follow your channel and are subscribed to your channel. We have been in the planning stage for over 2 months and are planning carefully to avoid the pitfalls, sinkholes, and land mines. Our goal is keep it real, keep it simple, and be ourselves. Equipment wise we are using the KISS principle. Keep it simple silly!!!
Thank you for the confidence to start my own story and channel much love to you and your family me and my family are going through a difficult moment thank you for the help so much
Really inspiring video! I’m 62 and I started my channel on December 1, 2024. I’m just happy I did as I was talking about it for so many years. I finally jumped!
I'm 62. Started focusing on my bike trail channel 2 years ago. Was monetized 11 months later. Now I have almost 6K subs and over a half million views, and I'm having a blast!
Mr. Kolbe, I do love you and all your advice, in the name of God! You're always cheering us up! I'll be soon starting mine...sooner than expected! (55, stroke survivor, sighted guide for blind athletes, father of one jewel, Jesus believer, UA-cam newbie - as a creator). Thanks, once again, pal!
You are my go to youtube guru at the moment ive learnt so much from you in the 2 weeks ive been researching from thumb nail to value and content and the close and you say editing dont worry about the editing just film it and publish it mistakes and all sounds good to me i will be uploading my first video this weekend thank you
You are the Chef Gusteau of content creators-bringing creativity, wisdom, and a pinch of hope! I truly appreciate your honesty; it's a rare and valuable ingredient in a world that often craves only surface-level flavors. That’s why I keep returning to this well-because here, the water runs deep. Coming from the music and podcast editing background that I do... I can QUICKLY overproduce as well.
Kevin, thank you for sharing such valuable insights. At 44, I've recently embarked on a new journey with my UA-cam channel. Like you, I deeply believe in the power of connecting with people and building a supportive community where we can uplift and inspire each other. Your thoughts resonate with me, and they fuel my determination to make this endeavor meaningful and impactful. Here's to growing together and spreading positivity !!!
I completely agree Kevin. I began a month ago. It’s been fun. I just review toys and I have some views but it’s so much fun! I’m 52 and have collected action figures since I was in college studying to become a comic book illustrator and storyteller. I always thought I was alone in this hobby. Well… I was completely wrong haha! In the best way! My kids are super excited about it snd they’ve never seen me so happy. The joy of just sharing is complete joy for me. UA-cam is the best platform. They give you an entire station to post whatever you want (within reason l lol). Your videos inspired me… you’re also right. Just do videos. Trying to alert people on other platforms isn’t effective or efficient.
Thanks for your videos. I'm 67 and I'm starting a ride-all-the-bikes advocacy channel. All my technical skills need a lot of work but I love riding my different bikes on all different types of rides and I know that I'll pick up the skills over time.
Another excellent video. I started doing video as a way to teach audio software in 2019 and surprised myself by loving it. I then started my UA-cam channels. There’s a peace and satisfaction in doing videos. I’m 69 and forging ahead. Thank you for your inspiration.
👍Great video. Thank You for sharing your experiences, knowledge, and tactics. Definitely helpful for new and experienced creators alike. My journey has just begun, and your videos have been very helpful. I have watched several and will continue to do so. Keep them coming please.👍
Hi Kevin!! My channel is picking up two weeks and two days in, I’m FAB 50 😂and loving it! Business CEO extended my reach on YT because my passion is helping people expand their vision, impacting their lives and businesses in a phenomenal way.
Thank you, Kevin, for this- it was the encouragement I needed to hear today. I find YT a real mental / spiritual challenge where I often get stuck in my head. Your video and your words help me to get unstuck. May God continue to bless you and your work!
I’m not sure which video it was, but yours was one I watched that got me psyched up to start my own channel-doing wire wrapping tutorials. I started in August. It’s slowly, but steadily growing. I still don’t have a decent camera. I often forget to turn my mic on and realize there’s no audio, when I get to editing 😂, and my hands, inexplicably, wander off screen as I’m trying to teach a design, but-I started, I’m doing it, and I am proud of myself. I, also, am over 40-by over 20 years. 😂 But, your advice is right: just…get…started. Life is too short not to do it now. Thanks!
Thanks so much for the continued inspiration!! I adore your sincerity!! Finally posted my first UA-cam video today…what a sense of accomplishment. Now to continue learning from great people like yourself and moving forward! Blessings to you and yours~D.
We will take as much of this as possible. The "focus on UA-cam" really resonated with us. We've put so much effort into social to see little to no traffic heading to our channel. We also believe it may be hurting our videos as viewers are heading back to Facebook to comment or send us a message personally rather than doing on UA-cam. Our last video got 10 viewer comments, however we had 15 on Facebook and 9 DMs. Another video idea for you, thumbnails & titles that appeal to on older audience... Much love Darren and Alison 🤟♥️
Idea noted, thanks. Regarding sharing to other platforms, it does create more work and, in my experience, I've seen more growth just focused on UA-cam.
Thanks, Kevin for the video, I’m 62 and I enjoy making videos just for the fun of it. I enjoyed the comments from everywhere. Thanks for the advice that you give on your videos.
Thank you Kevin for this encouragement for this over 40 yr olds 43 to be exact I’ve been binge watching your videos and you gave me the courage to just start. Posted 2 videos still trying to figure it out 😂thanks to your video I learned how to upload so far.
Thank you Kevin for another insightful video. My wife and I started our channel and then found your channel and we have watched a number of your videos so far and are really enjoying them. You have helped us in getting familiar with many aspects of UA-cam. Your video on uploading to UA-cam and the essential settings was amazing! Your teaching style is very easy to follow and you are always so thorough. Thanks again and Happy New Year!
Over 40 here, returning to UA-cam video making after 15 years hiatus (Used to be a motorbike vblogger). I've stepped into AI video creation as a hobby from composing music, image creation to video prompting. So much so, I've deep dived into doing it locally. Currently building and uploading my portfolio, and hoping to later branch into teaching videos for older users wanting to use AI creatively without getting scared or lost in the quagmire of all the new AI tools that seems to drop every day. Love your vids and want to say thanks for your encouragement to just simply start.
UA-cam will do UA-cam … thanks for that because so many have said to me that I need to be on all the platforms. I just want to do UA-cam. And talking to the people you want to connect with … yes, that’s what I’m doing with my new channel. I’m 7 weeks in and each video has been a learning experience in what people like, what I’m good at describing to get people’s interest and how the whole learning curve of creating is a huge part of the “process”! And I’m glad I just decided “to start”! I love your videos, so thanks!
You don’t know me but I keep seeing your over 40 messages on my feed and it’s the type of content that’s really getting me to taking some action now and setting up to try to do some videos despite plaguing self doubt. Here’s hoping whatever I think I’m starting takes off in a year or two with all the instructions and tips available on UA-cam.
I am doing my best to push my channel. I wish everyone else the very best in getting theres out there. Thank you kevin for your hard work, you're really helping my channel to grow. New video dropped yesterday on how I am using AI to build python apps and it's brought in 12 subs already in one day. I'm really chuffed. Thank you!
Bonjour , j' aime beaucoup tes vidéos, j' apprécie ta simplicité, ton authenticité. J' apprends l' anglais et je suis heureuse car je peux te comprendre 😁 Je te souhaite une très belle journée, Magalie.
Kelvin Kolbe will always give very good advice about all things UA-cam. He is extremely knowledgeable in the world of video and prodcasting. I plan to hire him as my UA-cam coach.
Wise words indeed. Seasoned professionals with specific knowledge gained over the years definitely have a place on YT. I plan on using said knowledge to do just that, share it with people with an interest in my industry.
Good advice. Turn 61 today, but started my channel 1 year ago. Never shot video before then. I’m just over 2,000 subs and have been monetized for 5 months. You can do this.
Such a great video. I've been trying to get people to come over to my UA-cam channel. I am going to stop doing that, and focus on UA-cam as you have advised.
Thanks for the frank talk Kevin. Always feel like I'm having a coffee with you in a coffee shop. I did just start another channel and posted today actually. So I expect my learning curve to improve. Especially thumbnail and editing. All I have on my laptop in Linux!
I'm 67 and I just found out how powerful shorts are man. I've been doing this for a long time and I haven't even got any views. I haven't been applying myself properly though. I'm great to learn how to edit movies but those shorts man I watched this video later. I'm hungry.
And yes… I wanted to begin 8 years ago. If I had I would have that much more experience and knowledge. I love editing too. THATS the exciting part. Recording is easier as you can shoot whatever you want… but editing is where the art is… I love it. I used to make vhs videos in the 8-s with my friends. I studied storytelling and made movies with my friends in Brooklyn New York… and it was soooo much fun! I’m in it for fun and community… thanks for your inspiring advice and videos….
Great video . Even after doing You Tube for nearly 15 years, it confuses me every single day. The weird little videos like one I’ve recently put out that I thought was rubbish throwaway content performs really well and then longer form edited videos that I’ve taken awhile doing perform terribly. 🤷🏼♂️
I'm not over 40 but close, 38. I am just getting started on UA-cam and thanks for the encouragement. One of the hardest things is trying to niche down and figure out what I want my channel to be about. I look forward to watching future videos from another Jesus freak!
Happy birthday, old man... From another old man 8 years your senior! (assuming you are hinting it is today, as is mine) Been enjoying your content for a few months, keeep 'em coming, thanks.
Oh Kevin…. How many times do you need to tell us old farts to “just start”! 😂 Keep telling us please because I am about to start! Seriously though, always a great watch! Thank you.
Hi there, just stumbled on your channel, much enjoyed. I went and watched a few more and the live with your parents, that was so adorable - thanks for the laughs ;)
Great video. The concept of if you want to do UA-cam, do UA-cam, just can not be stated more directly! I’ve been in business for 35 years and young entrepreneurs want to do everything - I tell them don’t! Focus on your niche!
Good afternoon, I had my u tube channel for a bit in anticipation of retirement. Last month I finally decided to focus on my channel at 56 years old to teach carpentry ( 38 years) and decided not to take all my trade secrets to the grave. Looking forward to sharing my experiences.
I saw a faceless food UA-cam channel, started in 2019 and has 3.7 mil subscribers, doing easy recipes. He had a bunch of air fryer recipes that was getting 25k views in 4 days. Wow
Hello I'm a newer subscriber I'm not over 40 but I'm close to it I turned 38 in December 2024 I been wanting to start making videos I like what you have to say that's why I'm watching I like your office settings I like your desk
2025 is the year of authenticity and the return of vlogging. Two things I love and am excited for more of. The over polished infomercial style of UA-cam is stale.
hey I am 63. 1961 model lol ..........watching to see. I have youtube started really for family at first for when I am gone. But now trying to get subs and post daily. Thanks for the tips.
I’m 45 and finally giving my channel attention. I’m growing my group of ‘Jeanies’ one awesome person at a time and am loving it! Come on over if you want a boost of motivation!😊❤
Hi Kevin. I started a channel putting out two videos per week, 12 videos to date, and I don't know how to get subscribers or encourage subscribers to comment.
@@NursePeter 2,500 videos are uploaded every minute on YT so we have to be OK with it being a long game and anything quicker than that is a bonus. Successful channels are ones that just kept going, kept improving bit by bit 💫
Lovely video. I don't think it will help me get more views or exposure, when I post my YT video on FB or else where. But I do love to post everywhere. I enjoy producing for the different PFs. But I try to post something different on each PF, unless it is in my opinion a good video. And I also am afraid, that a video is too blend, if i don't add some transitions and overproduce🙄 inspiring words from you 👏
Your content is great and so motivational! You helped persuade me to start just over two months ago - and my travel vlog ‘Travel in the Know’ now has over 590 subscribers - particularly after a season of 12 films on European Christmas markets - and I’d like to think each one is unique and different - no copying!! Please take a look Kevin … each film is between 8 to 10 minutes! I’d love to know your views! Philip
I started feeling older when I was watching back my video after recording and hearing myself say things that my mom would say like “one iota”. lol 😂 I am wondering if people even know what I’m saying 🤷🏻♀️

Wise words indeed. Seasoned professionals with specific knowledge gained over the years definitely have a place on YT. I plan on using said knowledge to do just that, share it with people with an interest in my industry.
Agree!
Hey there, you're still alive. Missed you already!
Happy New Year and I wish you and your loved ones good health above all.
Greetings from Germany! 👋
Alive and kicking! I try and unplug during the holidays but I'm back baby! And hey from the US.
Thank you for what you do!!! I am 54 until I turn 55 this year. I have a UA-cam it's a little over a year old. I will continue to post videos!
Great! Thanks for watching.
I started mine a month ago and am growing bit by bit. The more I do it the less nervous I get. 😊
That's great!
@ thanks. I don't like my voice, so it's been a challenge to overcome that through vlogging.
Thank you for the videos, both me and my friend are over 40 and we are creating a channel about mental health called Gone Mental to help people.
Nice. Love the channel name too.
Good advice. Turn 61 today, but started my channel 1 year ago. Never shot video before then. I’m just over 2,000 subs and have been monetized for 5 months. You can do this.
Way cool! Congrats too!
Such a great video. I've been trying to get people to come over to my UA-cam channel. I am going to stop doing that, and focus on UA-cam as you have advised.
You got this!
Thanks for the frank talk Kevin. Always feel like I'm having a coffee with you in a coffee shop. I did just start another channel and posted today actually. So I expect my learning curve to improve. Especially thumbnail and editing. All I have on my laptop in Linux!
Appreciate that...especially the coffee shop analogy too. 👊
Ha ha! Thanks for the love! I’m open arms to learn.
Hey Kevin! Another great discussion. Thank you! It was from the heart. I could tell. Ian from north of Toronto Ontario
great work. Started my channel recently!
Yes!
I'm 67 and I just found out how powerful shorts are man. I've been doing this for a long time and I haven't even got any views. I haven't been applying myself properly though. I'm great to learn how to edit movies but those shorts man I watched this video later. I'm hungry.
Always learning is the key!
Agree about editing. That for me is the best part.
Great video . Even after doing You Tube for nearly 15 years, it confuses me every single day. The weird little videos like one I’ve recently put out that I thought was rubbish throwaway content performs really well and then longer form edited videos that I’ve taken awhile doing perform terribly. 🤷🏼♂️
Welcome to UA-cam 😁
Thanks for the thoughtful content from the heart - totally true
Glad you enjoyed it!

Thank you so much for your advice. You've been such a great help.
You're welcome! Thank you!
I'm not over 40 but close, 38. I am just getting started on UA-cam and thanks for the encouragement. One of the hardest things is trying to niche down and figure out what I want my channel to be about. I look forward to watching future videos from another Jesus freak!
Close enough! 😁 Watch this to see if it helps you on your topics: ua-cam.com/video/jxJB3CBHmLA/v-deo.html
Oh, BTW Kenin, the only way I found your channel is bc OldMeLiving suggested I watch you.
Love that guy!
Thanks again brother!!
No problem 👍
Thank you for sharing your thoughts Kevin. Just uploaded my first video!! I'm 53❤❤!!!
YES! Let's go!
@KevinKolbe 🧡
Happy birthday, old man... From another old man 8 years your senior! (assuming you are hinting it is today, as is mine) Been enjoying your content for a few months, keeep 'em coming, thanks.
Appreciate it. Actually it's not my birthday, well not today anyway. 😁
Oh Kevin…. How many times do you need to tell us old farts to “just start”! 😂 Keep telling us please because I am about to start! Seriously though, always a great watch! Thank you.
How about one more time..."just start"! 😁✌️❤️
@@KevinKolbe Heart you!
Hi there, just stumbled on your channel, much enjoyed. I went and watched a few more and the live with your parents, that was so adorable - thanks for the laughs ;)
Awww, that's very cool. Since my mom passed away a year ago, that Live with them is one I'm really glad I did. Thanks so much for watching.
Happy Birthday! :)
Great video. The concept of if you want to do UA-cam, do UA-cam, just can not be stated more directly! I’ve been in business for 35 years and young entrepreneurs want to do everything - I tell them don’t! Focus on your niche!
Well said!
Good afternoon, I had my u tube channel for a bit in anticipation of retirement. Last month I finally decided to focus on my channel at 56 years old to teach carpentry ( 38 years) and decided not to take all my trade secrets to the grave. Looking forward to sharing my experiences.
YES! Go for it!
Appreciate that. Best thing to do is just start!
2025 is the year of authenticity and the return of vlogging. Two things I love and am excited for more of. The over polished infomercial style of UA-cam is stale.
Agree
hey I am 63. 1961 model lol ..........watching to see. I have youtube started really for family at first for when I am gone. But now trying to get subs and post daily. Thanks for the tips.
Sounds cool!
I Dig the Necklace !
Thanks!
I’m 45 and finally giving my channel attention. I’m growing my group of ‘Jeanies’ one awesome person at a time and am loving it! Come on over if you want a boost of motivation!😊❤
Yes so true 2:04... Thanks for inspiring
Appreciate that!
Thank you for the advice, It's a nice video, Happy Epiphany ✝️❤️😊
You’re welcome!
Inspired to start. It’s not just for the kids right?!
As a beginner, I enjoy making videos but I don't get a lot of views, less than 20 on each one.
That's my case as well.
Consider this. Every view is a viewer. If you're getting views, you're reaching people.
@KevinKolbe wow! Never thought of it like that....hmmm
I like you! 😀Thanks for another inspiring video.
Appreciate that.
I try not to hold the Mac against you 😂 only joking. I’ve always admired my creative Mac friends. Thanks for this relatable, pep talk.
Haha, no worries! 😁
I can't remember if it was you or someone else. They said only 6% of tubers get monetised. Do you think this is correct?
Wasn't me and no I don't think that's even close to being accurate.
Hi Kevin. I started a channel putting out two videos per week, 12 videos to date, and I don't know how to get subscribers or encourage subscribers to comment.
Focus on the content and the rest will follow.
And I also am afraid, that a video is too blend, if i don't add some transitions and overproduce🙄 inspiring words from you 👏
Thanks for sharing!
Because I don't know how to edit, what do you think about pausing my phone camera and restart to take care of the editing process?
Good idea. In fact, the latest iPhone update added that to the camera on the phone.
Very good ❤
Thanks 😄
Imposter syndrome, Kevin.. We older folks have perfectionist and imposter syndrome.. LOL (me included). I’ll post my first video this weekend.
Go for it!
Philip
Glad to know it helped spark that creative fire.
I started feeling older when I was watching back my video after recording and hearing myself say things that my mom would say like “one iota”. lol 😂 I am wondering if people even know what I’m saying 🤷🏻♀️
Oh, I'm sure they do!
