I'm not much of a fan of Harry Potter fan tbh, but knowing Olton Hall's rise to fame, I now have another level of appreciation for the lengths directors will go for authenticity. P.S. In regards to the train toys, I'm amazed Lego hasn't jumped on the opportunity of making Polar Express set yet, but have made several Hogwarts Express sets.

LEGO has made so much from Harry Potter. It's not surprising they press on that so hard. Polar Express is a wonderful story, but it's not the franchise that Harry Potter is.

Trainboy covered the history of the locomotive and I remember seeing this comment on the video. So apparently in the Harry Potter universe, the loco was being built at Crewe in 1838 when the wizards and witches came, said "Bippity Boppity, this engine is our property," and erased every workman's experience of building the locomotive

I really want this to be canon in some future Harry Potter movie or show, and for "Bippity boppity, this engine is our property" to be the actual spell.

Well for the game you could say its the very first Hogwarts Express before being replaced by the Hall class as the locomotives design does date back to the Bulldog Class they were built around 1899 to 1910 and the Duke class before that

5972 once designed and used as a blue collar workhorse of GWR and later BR became a moviestar.
Lets face it 5972 alter ego Hogwarts express and red livery fits here very well!
She even has a (still not funcyional) sister standing in for here in Japan.
Not to mention the replicas at theme parks and 1:87 models beloved and cherised in lots of families.
And yes some mockery here fame but in here core she is still that blue collar workhorse!

The GWR did very well just with 4-6-0s rather than Pacifics into nationalisation because of the quality of the high quality Welsh coal they had available to them which meant they could achieve required speed and power without the larger firebox a 4-6-2 enables

Irony of ironies,is that a GWR engine gets painted MR[MIDLAND RAILWAY]RED! The LMS,got Sir William Stainer from the GWR,and that's where the Black 5's,Jubilees,and other classes got that distinct GWR look! The BR, Standard Classes also carried that forward! If Churchward had produced a heavy Pacific,it probably would have been like the Class 8,"Duke of Glouster"! And don't forget, the GWR,was influenced by the PRR,as was the NER[Wilson Worsdell, was apprenticed at Altoona]so there is quite a bit of crossover! Thank you for your attention and time! Thank you 😇!

The Great Western ran out of Hall names from within their area to name the locomotives after, so they looked further afield. There is also the preserved 6998 Burton Agnes Hall (which was actually built by BR), and the actual hall is magnificent, and also in (East) Yorkshire.

now Im curios, since in the Harry Potter universe there seems to be wizards and witches all around the world. In Spain would the express be pulled by Spanish steam locomotives and if so, would it be the Class 240f ( 4-8-0), the renfe 151 (2-10-2), the more mass produced Renfe 141 (2-8-2), or the rather good looking Renfe 242f (4-8-4).
Just as a side note before anyone ask or says that it would be another nations locomotives and not a Spanish one, the Spanish railways use a 5ft 6( technically it is 5 ft 5+21⁄32 in, but it is jusy simpler to round up the number, not to mention that they are dam near similar. ) or the Iberian gauge as it is known, rather than the standard gauge that most other nations use, so if a train is running of Spanish railway line it has to be from Spain or of the same gauge.

    • @javiermedina9080
      @javiermedina9080 Рік тому +1

@@robertwilloughby8050 Honestly I didn’t even know about them till you mentioned them, mostly cause when looking at early 20th century 8 drive wheel Spanish locomotives, most sources go to the 140 class since they built them during the 1900s and 1910s ( I think in 1911 ish they built 120 of them).
But I am surprised about the locos you said ( mostly cause they look really nice and modern ish for the time, considering other locos in Europe at the time).
I am also surprised to find someone else who knows quite a bit about Spanish locos, since most people think that Spain never made any or if they did they were just shit compared to the rest of Europe or the world, so I already like you for knowing about these.
Also as a side note, in Spain or in Spanish railways, they don’t address locomotives classes by their full wheel arrangement, but rather the amount you see on just one side ( example the Norte locomotives you said would not be addressed as “ Norte 4-8-2 class locomotives”, rather they would address it as “ Norte 241 class locomotive”. The way you addressed them as is not wrong, as they are still 4-8-2 locomotives, it jut that Spain just decided to use this king of system and stuck with it. That and not many people realise where the class number designation is based on.
(PS: if you have discord or know about a channel that talks about locomotives of all nations ( including Spain), send me a link of you can cause I wouldn’t mind having a chat and meet other people who know about this kind of stuff)

I love this version of the Hogwarts Express, but the fact it's pulled by a GWR Hall class has irked me for a while. They never went to Scotland, and they didn't exist when the Express was established in 1830. There's all kinds of errors like that littering the timeline of the Express.
In my mind, she's an LMS Jubilee. Fits a bit better as those did go to Scotland. And Wizards could have transfigured her into newer types of locomotive over the years, explaining how she would look fairly modern for a steam engine but still have been built in the 1830's.

14:56 honorable mention about the hogwarts legacy version of the train even tho I never played it: The proportions of the model is not even accurate.
The locomotive is too short ,the boiler is too small ,the cab and running board are way too wide ,the bufferbeam is too large ,the steam pipes that go down to the pistons from the smoke-box aren't angled correctly ,too much stripes on the tender ,the wheels are too thin ,and the track of them or gauge is too wide (I also think the wheels on the side profile might be too far apart from eachother).
The coaches are also inaccurate. Way to large ,The sides are too flat ,the tender hogwarts railway logo has been copy pasted 4 times ,and the arrangement of the windows or doors isn't even correct.
There is just alot of Inaccuracies with it.

I can't wait for the Warner bros lease on this engine to expire, then the engine will can finally go back to being a GWR engine again, painted green again and working like a real engine should.
The fact that it has survived nearly 41 years through preservation and yet has been known as Hogwarts express for around 20 years I think is very sad. Now that Harry Potter is finally over, the engine should be back to what it was before the films.
I even find it confusing as to why they didn't choose a Black Five or a LNS Jubilee class since they were the sort of engines that did work in Scotland. A GWR Hall? That's just silly.

Perhaps they’ll update the design of the engine in Hogwarts legacy to match the engine who pulled the express before 8572. Perhaps a Duke or a bulldog…
Then again, Pottermore reckons that the Hogwarts express has only one engine pulling it throughout history (to my knowledge) perhaps they got the original Hogwarts express loco rebuilt by “Magic” later on…
Or, they somehow brought Olten Hall back in time to 1880… but that can’t exactly work as time turners came only take people back in time, not steam engines

The nameplate on the smokebox says Hogwarts Express, that's just what I'm goin by,plus the fact that Hogwarts Castle is never mentioned in the books in relation to the train.

@@tomcline5631 The loco name appears on the name plate above the driving wheels and is indeed "Hogwarts Castle" as seen at Warner Bros., the head board on the smoke box carries the name of the train.

I'm sorry but nowhere in the 7 books and 8 movies is the Hogwarts Castle on the train or mentioned in relation to the train. All the nameplates in the movies say "Hogwarts Express". In the entire franchise, Hogwarts Castle is the physical building, never applied to the train.
Look it up. I've read the books about 35 times and watched the movies at least a dozen each.
      Sorry,I'm a 50 year old
      nerd.

@@tomcline5631 UA-cam ate my reply, here goes again....
You clearly don't understand the difference between a train service name and a loco name.
For example, the famous non-stop London to Edinburgh train service know as "The Flying Scotsman" has historically been hauled by hundreds of different locos including steam, diesel and electric all bearing their own individual names. It just so happens that one loco was also named "Flying Scotsman" (LNER Class A3 No.4472)
Yes, the Hogwarts loco name was never specifically mentioned in the books, and in the movies, as far as I know, there was never a close-up scene showing the actual loco name.
However, there are numerous videos and photos all over the internet showing the loco name as "Hogwarts Castle" and you can view the original still (I believe) at Warner Bros. I saw it there myself about 4 years ago with my daughter.

Watford if pronounced "Wotford". It''s an easy mistake to trip over, but do try to check the pronunciation of English place-names - even the most innocent-looking ones can harbour pitfalls fore the unwary. And ... Woodham is pronounced "Woodum".

And Collett isn't pronounced "Coll-ett", but more like "Coll-it"

That was the oddest pronouncing of Watford I have ever heard, I had listen to that twice to get that.... Whatford is how it sounds when spoken over here in England

Your narration style is very annoying. Could you not just calm down a bit? Otherwise good and interesting video.
