You are one of the best instructors. I got everything setup…license, insurance, website, but can’t afford a pick up truck or a trailer right now. I have a 2006 Toyota Highlander. I was wondering if I can use that for the time being. All the seats can folded down to create space. Thank you so much for your great videos.
I started with U-Hauls personally. Used a pick up if minimum pick up, 10' if small job and tight space, but usually a 15' truck. 20-26' if a big cleanout. You can technically use anything, you're just limited to size. I personally wouldn't want to put "junk" inside my vehicle.. its not always clean stuff- bed bugs, roaches, mold, etc..
You are so right! Newbie here and had to learn fast. Alot of lowballers in my area and can't tell you how many times I have had to walk away vs those who recognize the art of this buisness..
With my junk removal pricing. This is how I charge. My trailer is 12x6 I can fit 10 double door refrigerators in it. I charge per fridge area. So I have ten pricing points. Which helps those with not much money that have a small load. My prices are starting at $150-$825
My trailer is 6.5x12x4. My dump fees are $42/ton for trash & $68 for construction debris. My full load without surcharges is close to 500. Companies in my Area range from mid 400s to mid 700s.
Hey boss! What to do if you are starting bein a one man army and a customer call you to a big job estimate? Do you get in or jump out? Great content! Thanks for sharing your experience!
When you say jump out, are you referring to turning the job down? I've done multiple loads by myself, and in a timely manner. If there's a reason why I need additional help than I'll hire someone I know and pay flat rate or hourly.
That's EXACTLY how I did my pricing but at $30 less than Junk King. Since then 16 months ago, I've added additional charges based on additional weight, access, hazmat, demo. I'm also like you where I work alone 99%. My dump fee is tied into the volume fee.
My trailer is 16lentgh 7 wide 4tall how much i should charge? How much i should charge per mattress they charge 33$ at waste facility, and my dump fee its 95$
It depends on your location. a 16x7x4 trailer is 448 cu ft. which is 16.5 cubic yards. With this info, look into franchise companies in your area. You should be around the volume of junk king and college hunks trucks so if those are in your area, I'd start there. For the mattress, its up to you, I personally would charge $35-40 extra per mattress so you get a small profit window. Is your minimum dump fee $95 or is that per ton? You'll want to factor that into your minimum load pricing. Check out my video: "Junk removal pricing- minimum pick ups"
I don't stand "everything" up but things like queen beds or long dressers that would otherwise take up 3/4 of my trailer, will get stood up. And it's not a drastic difference, but surface area at that point. I don't surpass 7'' in height, so nothing is sticking up more than 3' above side walls.
One reason you might have to dump it instead of scrapping it is like I have ran into a county that has no scrap yards and doesn't permit them, the closest one is an hours drive away, so the cost of gas and time are a factor when dealing with scraping certain items
Depends on type and location in house. Up stairs or 1st floor? Grand, baby grand, or upright? You can always do volume + a little extra for weight, and if it needs disassembly, then a time charge.

Its definitely rough sometimes competing with someone who has no overhead and can easily just dump whatever anywhere they want.
@@clutterreductionjunkremoval truth!
Great info man, you're really pumping out some valuable content!
I appreciate that!
Great content-- you can use a measuring tape or even a couple of sticks as mreaurememt. They even sell long rulers

Sounds about right! I use fridge examples too, makes sense for customers.
Good advice on estmation with finger estimation.
Thanks!
What size trailer do you have/ how do you price?
I have a 6x10x4 and try to charge $3-350 with average dump fee around 80-100.
My trailer is 6.5x12x4. My dump fees are $42/ton for trash & $68 for construction debris. My full load without surcharges is close to 500. Companies in my Area range from mid 400s to mid 700s.
You will learn real quick. My guess is after you do it a few times you will get it down

I think its a good idea when you're first starting off and not sure how things work. Then as you progress, you can adjust. Where are you based out of?
Is it ok to go at it alone?
@@tjtj1692 If you can handle the work, absolutely!
I’m starting out with a pick up truck with a 6 1/2 bed how should I charge.
I would do a minimum charge, 1/2 bed, full bed.
Good video...looking to get into the hauling business
Best of luck!

How do you handle charging volume when standing stuff vertically to make room??
I don't stand "everything" up but things like queen beds or long dressers that would otherwise take up 3/4 of my trailer, will get stood up. And it's not a drastic difference, but surface area at that point. I don't surpass 7'' in height, so nothing is sticking up more than 3' above side walls.
Why wouldn't you scrap a refrigerator or appliance and get paid for it instead of paying to dump it
You can for sure!
One reason you might have to dump it instead of scrapping it is like I have ran into a county that has no scrap yards and doesn't permit them, the closest one is an hours drive away, so the cost of gas and time are a factor when dealing with scraping certain items
And piano i dont know how much to charge for pianos😞
