Surprisingly this game came after when I was a bit older. I remember playing the Yamato, trying the Sumerians, seeing the Egyptians and the Greeks. Asking my dad who the Hittites were, and to see more about Babylon. All the different cultures as they changed over the ages. It's why I'm so fascinated by history as an adult now, all because of this game.

This game was my very first experience with video games, back in 1999 when I was just 6 years old. I did not understand a whole lot, but this game, it's viasuals and it's music are so deeply rooted in my brain that i get goosebumps and tears in my eyes when i listen to the soundtrack. Thanks dad for showing me the world of video games, that today, 25 years later, is still a big and valued part of my life.

I was maybe 5 or 6 when I first saw the game. We had a Windows 95 PC, it was 2001 or so. Game loaded up, I got to sit there and play around myself. That opening tutorial level is absolutely tiny in retrospect, but at the time it was wondrous. Just this small group of villagers in the middle of nowhere, all that great unknown world just beyond reach.
I did the same. With the minor difference that I played this game for 2 -3 years until age of empires 2 came out. Then I played that one for three years straight.
My question is... where is this song exactly? I remember having listened to it, but when I look for the sountracks I see that neither in the vainilla version nor the ROR version is.... and in the Definitive version is not even remastered... :(

I believe that this ost is from the aoe1 cd and the ost you're hearing is the non-cd type.

The Gold Edition only kept the MIDI tracks. Some tracks were CD only, and could even be played if you ran the CD as a music CD.
