It's so refreshing to watch an informative photography video without a bunch of unnecessary B-roll and just getting straight to the point.
Haha I wasn’t sure if this one had enough b-roll 😂
@@RanftEvan It was perfect for this video! Also loved the extra tip at the end. Like those movies with post credit scenes 😂
I agree
InstaBlaster.
Long story short, take pictures of special places in your city and sell them to people who love that city.
yes!! i’ve sold 8 prints that exact way in the past 2 weeks
@@lensofeli1762 Take aerials of neighborhoods highlighting peoples homes and sell those. They work well too depending on the neighborhood.
@@joshdiditt ahh unfortunately i don’t have a drone but i do have a few wanting pictures of their homes!
how do you go about actually selling them though? how do you find customers who'd buy your photos
How do you find the customers though? Thanks my biggest hardship
A photograph is a story. Remember, every photo has three stories. The image itself is a story. But there's a story behind why the photographer took the image. And then there's the story of of what the image means to the person looking at it. I like to add a small story to each image of what I was seeing or wanting to capture so the potential client can understand what I was seeing. I think it ads a lot of value to the image.
Just in time for a "before bed wind down". Always nice to watch these informative videos with great vibe. 😊
Can I join?
I’ve always thought this. There are amazing art pieces that people create, but selling them in prints is difficult if it’s too specific. More general photos will hit a larger market for sure.
Great video. I think people often overlook the fact that photography is a business, and that without solid business techniques it’s difficult to move it forward.
Yeah you need to know what market you are targeting. If you want a general audience market then you need to target that. The specific works could sell if you make work that would be highly prized by a niche market. If that is the case and you know how to target that niche you may not make as high of a volume of sales but you might be able to sell at a higher price point per print so lower volume but higher priced. If your goal is to sell to discerning art collectors who will pay a premium price per print, the general photos he is talking about may not sell in that market. Know what market you want to sell to because that also determines what photos have a higher value within that market.
I really like the fuzzy duck photo. But you’re right I think that one would be great in a photo book as opposed to a print.
Placement value reminds me of blue glaze pottery, a friend of mine is a potter and whenever she needs to make some sales she makes a bunch of pieces with blue glaze since that’s what sells. Great explanation, I’ve heard the ‘would you hang it on your wall’ but your distinction between nice art photo versus relatable value is helpful.
These are the exact ideas about this i've been needing to hear! So glad there is someone just straight talking the business side of things! Cheers dude!
I would buy the fuzzy duck one over the other one because it has interest and mood.
Hi Evan, can you please teach photo packagin? just like how you protect your prints before you ship them out
Great video as always! Perfectly informative and not dragged out like some others do! Thanks for sharing
Thanks Evan! I’ve started a print store so this is great advice.
What a dope video. This makes so much sense haha, I’m rethinking my vision! Thanks Evan

great tips man, about to start selling some prints and this helped alot and makes so much sense!
That was a brilliant video. The message was clear, B roll was EXTRA buttery, ur photos are 🔥. All in all a product of the sharpening of your craft. Thankful for your mind
This is a great video for explaining something I couldn’t really verbalize to some friends of mine. Appreciate you GOAT, keep up the quality bro ✊🏽
It’s amazing how the simple advice always goes un noticed. Great video 👍🏽
So refreshing. Puts everything in perspective ✨ thanks for the video Evan!
now everyone has to buy the fuzzy duck photo! because you told me I don't want it! lol
Dude this is so interesting and I would have never considered this! I'm definitely going to apply this going forward
Evan, great stuff as usual. Would love to see your workflow from digital file to finished print. Who do you use for printing, how do you export for printing, what paper type do you use, framing considerations, etc. I'm getting into printing at home for personal pleasure, not sale, but want to take the step from box store cheap poster print to high quality archival images.
Keep up the solid content. As you have for 3 years now, you keep me motivated to get out and create!
Just wanna thank for this video and content you have made similar to this it’s been really helpful. Ever since Covid and losing jobs and work it’s been a journey to figure out the next move with my photography and these videos have really been informative. Esp just from the mental standpoint of ok maybe it’s not the work but the strategy etc. So thanks
Really helpful and informative Evan, much appreciated!
You make so many things make sense for me. Thanks dude.
Great video and advice...I learned over the year...different prints speaks to different people...Thank you for sharing your knowledge...
This was amazing, thank you so much. Clears up things, and opens my eyes to how the games works.
Useful information! Nice one!
Very on point guy. Thank you for your explanation.
Whoa, you just solved a problem of mine that I’ve been trying to figure it out on my own. Thank you 🙏🏼. I really mean it, thank you.
Great video as always Evan, very informative
I’ve been a follower of this channel for a couple years but I don’t think I’ve ever heard you say where you get your printing done. Love some info on the printer and your paper of choice.
Great video! Great information! Thank you!
This was a great video! Really broke down the way to get prints sold! Im in some galleries and one thing they want in the galleries is the photos of the area around them. Normally they won't have photos from other areas because they won't sell. People enjoy and want to buy the prints that brought them to that area in the first place!
Great tips. Im starting to get into selling landscape prints as well and these were helpful. Also I use ACI for everything from my senior banners to prints. I love that I get free overnight shipping since we are located in the same state. I love them but I don’t hear a lot of other photographer use them.
i am writting an essay on selling photography prints and this video has been great and very helpful :)
Right video in the right time for me :) Thanks Evan
Very true placement value, didn't think of that before now I do thanks for the tips
This might've been the best video I've seen on selling prints.
I really need to hear this. Thanks!
Another great video! I personally don't do prints but enjoyed your info :)
Been a month sir. Waiting for a long time, gotta binged all ur vids
Great advice, especially the critical look at placement value... selling prints is definitely a whole separate art/craft to itself beyond being a great image-maker. As photographers we all love and appreciate great images - yet how many of us actually buy and display other photographer's images or even properly display our own work? What would make us invest in photographic wall art? That 'placement value', the photographer's brand, scarcity etc no doubt all come into play...
Great concept. I have been thinking about this exactly. It is my dream to sell prints
Great video! I want to start doing prints for myself to start but don't exactly know where to start. I recall seeing a video of your a little while back where you explained where you bring your memory card to print the picture along with what store you bought discounted frames? If you could guide me back to that video I would highly appropriate it !!
Thanks ,really usefull !!
as someone who loves to take photographs.
i don't think i'd ever hang neither a photo nor a painting on my walls. i'd pay to see them at a gallery, but i wouldn't buy one to take home with me and hang it on my walls. i don't know why, but i love my walls and floors empty. i also prefer minimalist lifestyle. one couch, one chair, one table, a laptop, a bed and maybe a fridge. other than that, my house would be empty.
Great advice thank you.
All facts. Understanding this is so important
I never sold prints but this is really good future advice. Thank you!
Truth ! Plain and simple
Love that wide shot!
Hi Evan, great tip on this video ! Can you show us how you print your photos? I love printing it would be great to see your process. Thank you :)
Evan great video. Can you make a video on how to print your photos? What equipment or where shop do you print? Also material and dimensions for the print. Thanks
I feel this a lot. As much as I want to put up a bunch of different photos, I know my audience loves to see Las Vegas.
Yes. This concept of placement value is such a good point! It's almost so obvious that we don't consider it.
Hi Evan, first of all thank you for the value contend that you always share with us. Hey could you make a video about what kind of paper you use and how can be the photograph laminated (I saw that some of your pic are on a hard cardboard) If if it done on a particular website. Thanks Bud again!
oil painter here but awesome info- thanks!!!!
Thanks for the tips
🙏🙏
Just wanted to say that the iPhone anti-tracking ad that played during this video was the best ad I’ve seen in years.
This is sooo true, never thought about that. Btw in what kind of paper or material do you print your photos????
Hey Evan!! Great video as always! How do you ship your pictures? I noticed USPS charges a lot for prints that are 16x20 or larger due to the box size. Any recommendations?
Hi Evan,
What's the size of the Atlanta Skyline print you showed? Love the work. Keen to know how you make them with the tough board on the back, too.
Thank you. Another helpful, well produced, to-the-point video... Quick question; what is the method/material are the photos mounted on on the fist part of the video?
I have my first print going up for sale this weekend in a store. I'm happy and nervous about it at the same time.
This is awesome
This can even apply to a youtube video. Who are the immediate people around me? what content are they interested in? Whats the common factor?
thanks
I can answer the title question without even watching the video. Its cause my photos are bad and I have no audience 😂 still, I'll watch to see what you're answer is
Video about the printing process? Preferred export settings, best printing paper, gloss/matte, where to print, costs?
Is that Fuzzy Duck from Columbia, TN?? I'm probably the one guy from Columbia watching this that gives that photo any placement value 🤣
Makes sense. Do you have a video on size and aspect ratio?
hello Evan . great video , and even greater photos : )
I am living in Rome , and I am thinking to do postcards and prints to sell here in the local shops . question , what type of paper do you use ? do you made the prints glossy or mate ?
if I made prints to sell as decorative photos , where do I put the information of the photo , in the back ?
pd , sorry for my English , is not my first language
Thanks for your quick and on the point video, it was good. I have a question ;-)
I'm a student in small city with a lot of foreign students who are arriving and renting appartments. A few people said I should sell prints of my pictures because they are good and they themselves bought Ikea/etc pictures for there flat (which wasn't cheap neither local). I'm also the main photographer for students events (club parties). Should I try to sell prints ? I'm really not sure if it will work, although even sell a couple will cheer me up and make a couple of bucks I wouldn't other wise ; but is it worth creating a website and pay for a website or I can start otherwise just to see if there is a market or not ? Note that I have only 2.5 years left so really 2 years worth of new students
i’ve sold 8 in the past 2 weeks!
Love the advice! I print photos for myself but have been thinking about selling them recently. What is your thought about the dark room website?
I'm early! Gonna finish the video first haha
👊💯
How much of a border is that around your 12x18 prints and what paper do you use? Thanks
Damn! Those photos are good.
Have a great day everyone and stay safe!
Same!!
thanks you too
@@Jeff1232D Thanks!
your photos are amazing, what printer and paper do you use??
My prints sell at my studio very well, although I don't sell "prints", I sell limited edition matted fine art photography. It's about getting your work in front of people and offering art that appeals to their sense of being.
Great video Evan. I am not sure if you are still monitoring the comments. I have a question regarding signing prints. Where do you recommend? With pen or pencil? I am a hobbyist photographer and want to give out a few portraits to family member as a token of memory. I feel signing on the print will give more of a welcoming touch. Any tips will be highly appreciated.
What type of pencil/ pen do you like to sign your prints with? Great video brother.
On mat paper, a 4B pencil... with a glossy paper the best is a Sakura Micron Pigma 05.
Still waiting on that snapback return bro!!!
Also! Maybe would be a dope time to do a business type video because it’s getting around tax time (thought of this because I got 2 turbo tax commercials during this video😂)
i want the fuzzy duck one its amazing
Haha well you’d be the first sale 😂
I like the fuzzy duck too 😁
Should I sell my prints with or without frame? Thanks for the video
Do you have a link to the boxes you use to ship pints? That's my biggest hurdle right now.
what do you print your photos as Matte or Glossy & what do you prefer? Also what style did you print that photo, like as a prame able photo or something else?
What kind of prints are those? They look like they are on thick paper or are the mounted on a cardboard back? Thanks
What kind of material do you use to print the photos?
Your colour grading is so god damn good!
What type of prints are those? Are they pasted on a board? They are so rigid.
Question??? Do you sign the back or front of the photo
Where can I get my photos printed on a plastic canvas like this in Canada? Poster Jack has metal prints, but they're more expensive than what I think you could get the plastic ones for. Thanks!
What’s the best way to actually print your own photos? Thanks in advance!
Hi Evan, what is the material are you using, they look awesome!!!!
They’re all mounted to plastic!
@@RanftEvan thanks dood!! :)
Are you filming with the lumix S5 still ?
Time to level up to selling snow leopard prints 👊🏼
Someone said to me before they would luv my photos as wallpapers ,I don't know how to do that though
