Blocked Superchargers by Teslas not charging.. Press the button on the Supercharger connector and plug their car in.. They won't do it again, when it costs then 1 EU per min

While we may not have that many chargers, Ireland is pretty small so new EVs have enough range to get most places in one charge!

    • @drxym

Ireland isn't that small and if you open zap map or similar you'll see how woefully it is behind the UK or the rest of Europe

We toured Southern Ireland for the first time last year and really enjoyed it. Highlights for me were,
    Seeing Father Teds House
Walking on the Cliffs of Moher and the Ferry to see the cliffs from the sea. The drive to the ferry was outstanding too.
Cong where The Quiet man starring John Wayne and Maureen O Hara was made.
    The Ring of Kerry
    Inch Beach
Kinsale Very pretty and has one of the best Fish and Chip shops anywhere.
Duncannon - we stayed in a lovely B&B overlooking the beach and the pub grub is amazing.
    Westport.
Waterville where Charlie Chapman had a holiday home
Dingle is nice but a bit too touristy
Bottom line is if you want a driving holiday then Ireland is an amazing place to come to.

I drove to, around and fro Ireland in a Kia eNiro for over 3 weeks. Had full wall charged to 300 miles, 1174 miles charged on the go, costing £200. In comparison petrol would have cost £60 extra and only £48 charging at home. No problems charging, few delays of course. Most charging stations had self service laundry and restaurants attached, so eat and get your clothes washed at the same time. Went from High Wycombe, Rosslare, Waterford, Cork, Tipperrary, Galway, Dublin, Wexford, Rosslare and back. Bear in mind we were on holidays and our car only charged at 70 kWh, love a car that charged around 200, that should make it quicker.

Your route here is similar to my first Irish road trip in June 2023 with a 60kWh Nissan LEAF, except I started from Holyhead-Dublin (with charging actually on the Irish Ferries Ulysses) then it was Dublin-Waterford-Cork-Kinsale-Limerick-Galway-Dublin. I was doing 200 miles a day and, as I’d ordered an ESB RFID card in advance, I had no trouble finding chargers at the end of each day. This June I did the other half: Dublin-Belfast-Coleraine-Derry-Donegal-Sligo-Galway-Dublin and similarly had no problems. In fact this year two new networks had sprung up everywhere (EasyGo and WeEV for which an app was sufficient. These opened a lot of destination chargers for me, including a hotel in Galway and the visitor car park at the Titanic Experience). Overall, I’ve found on both occasions that both the Republic and NI are well provided for, given a population similar to NW England. Everything worked

Brilliant timing. I live in Surrey and drive to my family home in Dingle, Kerry every year which is where I’m at for the month of August. Usually do the Pembroke-Rosslare route too. This is my last year in my family car - an SQ5. The big question for me is how would an EV manage with the long drive to Dingle which my SQ5 comfortably does in less than one tank of diesel. Having test ridden a MYP and a M3P I’ve decided to replace my family car and own car with both of these, being been particularly tempted by the current 0% finance offer, and also having recently installed solar at home. Thanks for all the great videos you do and glad you enjoyed your trip to Ireland.

Hey Richard, I must say I did a double-take seeing you pop up in Waterford. You seem to have enjoyed our city, which is great, and taking the coast road towards Cork was a very good move since there’s some stunning scenery there, a good taster before heading west, which is truly God’s country. Next time try and stop in Galway city. Yes it’s extremely congested but it’s unmissable IMO. If only I’d spotted you down by the EasyGO chargers I’d have offered you a pint, but maybe next time!

I did a trip around the northern half of Ireland, Belfast, Dublin, cliffs of mohar, Galway, cong, Derry and north coast, 1100 miles in an ev6. I used ionity, esb, hotel and bp no problem at all and worked out about the same pro-rata as Richard’s calculation . Off the motorways with the 120km limit it’s slow roads so a charge could last a few days. In all a great trip and no issue for an electric car.

After living with a Model 3 2021 LR for 3 years now, range anxiety just isn't a thing. I've done many trips from the north of the UK to southern France and never had any issues. I need to stop long before the car does, and by the time I've got out and stretched my legs/used the services, the car already has plenty of a top up, even if I don't need it. Hopefully picking up a 2024 Model 3 Performance next week, all going well (took advantage of the 0% finance offer). Looking forward to it!
I also had that really weird GPS thing on the ferry this year on the way back from France. It took my 21'LR around 30-45 minutes to 'find' the GPS again. What was really weird is it was tracking the car just fine (as in the arrow was moving around with the car on the map) just the map position still said I was in France. Super weird, and even a head unit reboot didn't fix it, just had to wait. Not great. First time its done it in the 3-4 times I went over, meaning 6-8 'exits' from the ferry and it only happened on the last one. But still weird.

The slower charger are sprinkled bout 7kw-22kw, but finding high speed DC away from city is a struggle. I've driven in the states and its night/day due to Tesla network which works and charges fast. Wish UK would get itself sorted, and also stop ridiculous charging rates that some councils put in place. Luckily I can cheap charge at home but many people don't have that option.

My 2015 Nissan Leaf uses ChadeMo Rapid Charging (50kw) and Zap-Map shows plenty of chargers even for my humble little 24kwh Leaf. And then you can add Type 1 and Type 2 chargers for even more coverage. So, for me, Ireland must have an adequate number of chargers if it can even cover a nine year-old Nissan Leaf.

Since the Model 3 has got to the point where they are ' affordable' , Here in the South West they are becoming more like 'Chav' vehicles ' Mis placed '4D plates etc and always in white, you get the idea . What's your thoughts with the Tesla image going forward ?

    • @mra9085
      @mra9085 4 місяці тому

The ones with chav 4D plates will inevitably be the previous model. The Highland hasn’t been out for long enough and the Model Y Juniper is due in 2025. So those chavs will forever be playing catchup around 2 or so years behind at least. You get this with every manufacturer tbh.

Those roads down by the father ted house are a nightmare. I spent more time in the hedge than actually on the road to try and let cars past. Don’t think I’d of taken my £50k Tesla down them 😳

I bought a niro because the boot is better for dogs and j was nervous of the build quality but wifey is getting a company car and tbh i think m3 is probably what id get and no ine has mentioned doggy damage. I know dog mode is good but saloons are not good dog cars and its always been a frustration people wteny m3s are good because dog mode - meh! Lazy

One thing Tesla doesn't do well is the roads it takes you. It'll bring you down the most awkward routes. Tiny 1 car roads. However you'll see stuff you'd never have seen otherwise. Next time you're coming over reach out. The owners club could meet up and shoot some film with you!
