I had arrived in Canterbury 3 days before and saw a flyer at a local cafe. I thought, "that looks fun!" I arrived at the show completely empty handed, while other local families brought food, drink, and even pillows for their kids to sleep. A truly magnificent experience for a white kid from the American Midwest. I had seen a bunch of shows previously, and met Hariprasad Chaurasia, Shivkumar Sharma and other musicians at small concerts in Milwaukee, and remember being impressed by how big the venue was - I had seen them at house concerts on off days like Sunday afternoons to fill gaps in their tour schedule. I remember walking out of the show along the Thames feeling like my exchange year in England at the University of Kent was going to be magnificent. It was!@@maheshsawakar5137

There were many great musicians performing during that period, Chittibabu, Lalgudi Jayraman, Kunnakkudi Vaidyanathan, Gangubai Hanagal, Pandit Jasraj, Mallikarjun Mansoor, Maharajpuram Santhanam, Ustad Zakir Hussain, Ustad All Rakha, Ustad Bismilla Khan, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Pandit Ravi Shankar. 1960-90-2000, golden era really.
No words on the mutually challenging at the same time synchronised as well in a sense, by two maestros proliferated the nuances of Bhairav raga !
