One thing I liked about this vid...the fact that you simply turned your small drill press on its' side to do the buffing. Great idea, that! And, yes, I have subscribed as well!
Nice "quick and dirty" technique. My one thought is that, if you have a reloading press, you can probably expand the neck with a larger caliber reloading die and get a straight neck rather than the taper you get the way you do it.
Im gunna attempt this. I dont have a lathe or press or rounding block. I do have a cordless drill, punch, hammer, solder, and propane torch, and free time. I found the exact pens at alco. And i have over 100 shells to practice on.
Alejandro Sibaja, that is the excuse for most people. If you REALLY want to have those tools then save your money and buy tools. I'm 15 and I already have a small machine shop. I have saved my money and bought tools like every person should.
ok. is this typical? i was under the impression a lathe cost like 10 grand and is huge. is the one in this vid a little desktop unit? this machine can bore out barrels rite (to put the groves in the barrel that make the bullet spin u no)???
hope you're happy i tried this with some 5.56 out the box when i put the heat gun on the damn thing cooked off and took off my left middle finger, I also just made that up and still have my left middle finger. No fingers were injured during this comment. Thank you...
Did you make the tapered shaft you used to expand the shells, or did you purchase it? If you purchased it, where? If you made it, please make a video to show that process. I love this kit and you really do a great job of explaining it. Keep the videos coming.
I got a tapered punch from harbor freight and cut it down. That specific punch came in a set. www.harborfreight.com/10-piece-jumbo-punch-and-chisel-set-66214.html
Gotta be careful not to over heat it when removing the rubber grip. You will distort your plastic piece. Best fix is to keep the plastic pliable so you can wedge your tip back in to get the shape back and let it cool
Real cool project. I'm sure if you did 100 at a time you could make some $$$ and save some effort. I think I would like one with a nasty old patina look to it. Maybe leave it outside a few weeks in a mud puddle:) I am a plumber and I make "scrap art" out of the old junk I rip out of houses. Have fun G.
I've got 800 rounds of Mosin ammo that is about 50-60 years old that is definitely "patina-ed" if you're interested in making a pen, I'll send you all the spent casings you need. The 7.62 Mosin ammo is perfectly .30 cal (the width of a .30-06 bullet.)
+Chechen Wolf Only a fucker without any creativity posts crap like that xD I bet your channel is as empty as your skull. Nope, best GTA gameplay video has 88 views....we are so impressed. Cant you moron just watch and give him a thumb? If you had a lathe you couldnt do it -.-
+LaserGadgets hey lazer i know you make lazer like stuff can you do a video of iron man glove combine with lazer pointing and a pen gun it be fun project
LaserGadgets Do you think every UA-cam channel owner is a "UA-camr" ? Or do you think they maybe made a channel to make things easier and just watch UA-cam videos? Do you think i am trying to make money or even views out of a crappy GTA video and a BF4 Headshot video? Couldn't care less, UA-cam is not a job. And you should get down from your high horse.
+laszu I have the same lathe and it came from Harbor Freight. It is no toy....mine will hold .001 or 1 thousandth of an inch and cost about $550 delivered to my shop.. G.
lol people do it because "they can". If you don't have a machine shop (even a small one) then that is the way to go. Only people who do have shops are going to make things like this and they do it because they LIKE to.
That's the excuse that most people make (no offense!). I'm 15 and already have a small machine shop. Save money and buy one machine at a time. I started with a small lathe. It cost me around $500.
Not an excuse, just a fact of life. And no offence, you are only 15, and no doubt still live at home, with few if any expenses. I'm 43, have a wife, 4 kids, and a mortgage. Big difference.
True. I do still live at home. Garage sales (at least around here) are great places to purchase tools. My father used to go to garage sales and buy whatever tools he needed. There are plenty of tools that can be purchased at reasonable prices but you do have duties that are much more important concerning your family. Family is so much more important than anything else in this world. Unfortunately, my generation thinks that family is for pleasure and not for good.

Very nice. But you have every tool one can imagine. I wish I had those tools. I'd be making all kinds of things all day long. Good Job.

Alejandro Sibaja, that is the excuse for most people. If you REALLY want to have those tools then save your money and buy tools. I'm 15 and I already have a small machine shop. I have saved my money and bought tools like every person should.
How can people not like this?
I don't have all that equipment, but I have $12.99, so I bought one on Ebay, with free shipping LOL
@tom bats: So what? this is for the education I would gladly pay for the knowledge, that Brent Garcia, is GIVING ALL OF US for free!
ok. is this typical? i was under the impression a lathe cost like 10 grand and is huge. is the one in this vid a little desktop unit? this machine can bore out barrels rite (to put the groves in the barrel that make the bullet spin u no)???

Did you actually leave the key in the chuck?

@@First_Class_Amateur Thanks. I actually have that set of punches.
Actually really cool idea.
what brand chuck is that you have on your lathe?
I love this, but have you ever considered getting a short pen? it could all fit inside of one cartridge if you did.
i made a few of those - fine and dandy in a .223 till you mess up writing reload data and drop it in a tub :S
damn that is a badass pen bro :)
its cool sir,,,
how can i get this pen???
Gotta be careful not to over heat it when removing the rubber grip. You will distort your plastic piece. Best fix is to keep the plastic pliable so you can wedge your tip back in to get the shape back and let it cool

Kevin Carr in a hardware store that sells power tools 🙄is where you can get one

Or, you can save yourself a lot of unnecessary work, expense, and frustration by buying one on Amazon starting at $10.
lol people do it because "they can". If you don't have a machine shop (even a small one) then that is the way to go. Only people who do have shops are going to make things like this and they do it because they LIKE to.
Agreed. But I think it's safe to say there are very few people who have a machine shop. If I had one, I'd probably build stuff like this too! :)
