- For todays video we will be talking about which sony camera is best for you. Should you guy the a7riii or the a7iii. I own both the a7iii and a7riii for quite some time and use both every day for different situations. Both cameras have amazing features but which one is suited for the type of creative that you are. The sony a7iii is amazing for videos, has an improved back lit sensor and takes great photos. The sony a7riii has 42.4 megapixels making this the ultimate professional photographer camera and also takes great videos. I think when deciding on which camera to purchase you need to identify what type of creator you are.

I was about to get the A7Riii but I mainly plan to use video. Thanks for saving me $1,000 A7iii for me.
I've been a Sony user for about 5 years. I upgraded to the A7iii. I did my first wedding with it a week ago in the pictures were amazing! I also did some interview style documentary video work and it turned out amazing. I love the A7iii. I still use my A6500 as my gimbal and backup camera.

Ive had all three, started with the a7r2, I loved the files rt out of the box, I couldnt make a bad still shot it seemed like, but it was slow and batteries seemed to run down fast, also the blackout of the viewfinder when hitting higher frames per second was a drag, I loved how the shadows picked up in LR. sold it and got the a73, I found I missed the cropping power of the 42mp files, and had more detail traded it off for the a7r3 with cash, and now am using the r3, its robust and cost more, but I enjoy knowing if I need the quicker burst rate its there, and no blackout in evf, higher res in lcd and to many other points to mention.
Absolutely! If photos are your thing the Riii is the way to go.

Currently own a a6000 which I will be keeping. Also have an A7ii which I am not a fan of. Torn still. Mostly will be photos (portraits, landscape, wildlife, travel) but want to try and dabble in some video. Leaning towards riii but $1000 price diff makes aiii appealing too as I would like to trade up my missing flashes for godox. Thinking to rent both bodies and see what happens...if focus on riii is just as fast may consider else aiii. Analysis paralysis lol.
Appreciate the kind words! Honestly like I said in the video if I could do it again I would grab 2 a7iii's instead of having one of each. Even Manny Ortiz went from the riii to the 7iii just for the file sizes of the raws alone!
Recently got the A7Riii about 2 weeks ago, have been shooting with Nikon for the past 6 years.. i was torn apart between the A7iii and the Riii but like you said, i lean more on the photography side, i just started to work with video. Another reason i got the A7Riii is because i believe the A7Siii is going to hopefully come with 4K 60fps but either way i think it will out do the A7iii. i live in Hawai'i so i think i would regret not having the 43MP's for the photography here too.. CHEE!!
Thats whats up Stephen! Don't get me wrong the riii is a AMAZING camera for both photo and video. I find myself in some low light situations so the a7iii does help me out. How are you liking the sony system compared to the Nikon?

I'm Jason Anthony I’m blown away with the Sony system! I would say with the A7R3/A73 Sony changed the game! I would follow what Sony was doing behind the scenes as a Nikon shooter but I never jumped ship.. due to battery and lens options... but I’m here to tell you Sony is killing it!!!
Fareed zain I would recommend to you to go to your nearest camera rental store if you have one.. rent either one honestly and you will see what is Nikon shooters have been missing for so long!! Continuous AF, EVF, Eye AF!!! The list goes on!! Trust me brotha you will not regret!
Got the A7RIII for Xmas cheaper than I could buy the A7III here in Australia during the Black Friday sales, so glad I got so a great deal, I do mainly photo.

A7R3 vs A73 are only $600 difference in today's price. Pick A7R3 if your in a 'high level' photography job like weddings or fashion with high level retouching, compositing and using all GM native lens as much as possible but not necessary. Pick A73 if your into a little bit of everything but want to get a system that scores high in every sector but not perfect. If you guys go to DXOmark website, they show AR73 as Rank #5 and A73 as #12 globally. As a wedding photographer, I use both aat the same time in my gigs, with the A7r3 im able to edit my details and sell my prints knowing its a master piece of art, people complain about huge size file and spending a lot on memory but, to be honest i never heard anyone complaining in real life crying over $50 more for SD cards when they are making thousands for their work. You can backup all your photos in Amazon Prime for free unlimited photos only can i get a amen? Jason is right about both of the system and whatever you guys choose, you'll be happy knowing you bought a Sony. On the other hand I use the A73 with a Ninja V as a monitor and take videos when i can, when im not its using a tele lens as a second body. After using both for 2years+ my A7iii shutter failed on me and had get it fixed aand replace took 4 weeks to return back to me and wasted $300 ish in renting another A73 for my gigs as it was in for repairs. I'm excited for Sony E-mount product announcement on June 5th and i hope for either a A9ii or A7Siii.

I plan to go with the A7R3. There is a figure that takes 4 images and stacks them. Pixel stacking or whatever it is called. I like this figure for landscapes.
Im so torn, i do photo work. Currently have a canon t6i and do wildlife, macro, landscape stuff for fun but also have some paid work like family photoshoots, engagements, stuff like that. I also try to aim for the lowest iso I can get away with yet trying for the sharpest image, and lowest noise shot I can get. Which camera do you recommend 🤔? Was thinking of pairing either one with the sigma 24-70 f2.8 mainly for photoshoots anf the sony 200-600mm for wildlife.
I have a Canon 5D Mark Iv that's roughly 8 months old and I'm seriously looking into Sony A7III or A7RIII but after looking at your video...Im leaning to the A7III.

Great video mate!! Would you say the extra megapixels on the Riii make a difference in product photography, even if it's not for big printing? Let's say at detail level or so...
I shoot, primarily, stills. Urban, architecture, wide landscape, night shots, etc. Jumped in with both feet last week and got an a7Riii and the FE 24-70 F2.8 GM. I'm on ramen noodles for awhile, but so far am amazed at most of the results [in two freezing days]. I decided on it, having had a few months with my 'pocket' RX1R2, and I love the post-processing capacities they offer. Now I won't say 'no' to an a7iii should I find a nice used one, but I don't have the physical flexibilty to do some decent gimbal video, so I might skip it.

Hi Jason i got the A7RIII and i m the admin of the FB group Sony Cameras France. I got a lot of pb with the A7RIII : 1st it was the mic input and from the start it's a red flash when it's on Auto Iso in all the PP, standard included. The Sony Pro Support shared me one new and it's the same pb. Did u see that ?

Thanks for the video. Hobbyist here. I changed over from Nikon about four months ago. Now have an riii and a couple of APSC Sonys. Love the photos and cropping ability of the riii for wildlife shots. It will be kept for that. Recently did a low light video test with it and the A6300. My thoughts are that the differences are not huge for my purposes. I was thinking about stepping up to the A7iii for video but for me, the a6300 seems to do a great job and - for my uses - doesn't merit an upgrade. I decided all that after looking at your vids and several others and testing my own stuff. Thanks again for helping. I think I will keep the current setup and (maybe) get a second riii or a new version when it comes out. Wildlife shooting is challenging and having two full frame bodies would be very handy. I don't think the a7iii cuts it for detailed photos - but I haven't shot one so I may be an idiot.
I'm torn between both, coz I have a lot of APS-C glass. What do you think? I still love the convenience of the APSC, i can carry it around everywhere and was thinking of having a full frame to crank up my professional work but still keep my apsc and apsc glass. I was thinking the r3 can render better quality and still usable images and footage with apsc glass right?

Shiva.R awesome question bro. to be honest I find the sharpness coming from the lenses more than the bodies. The riii is great if you’re going to make movie sized prints even tho the 7iii can also produce awesome prints. It’s more which one works best for you bro!

Hello I am a music producer that is just now getting into shooting music videos. I previously was using Canon dslrs but now I am interested in that crispy 4k look. I am leaning towards the Sony A7iii but I know you are really familiar and wanted to know if I purchase the A7ii what lenses do you recommend I get to be able to make great music vidoes? I also want to know what adapter is best for use of canon lenses with the Sony camera? I don't have a huge budget and I want to get a couple that would work in multiple situations.
I have the a7iii coming from an a7 was a huge leap.. I’m a huge Zeiss fan so I have the 85mm 1.8 and the 35mm 1.4. I’ve shot weddings with these 2 lenses and wow sharp as hell. Didn’t have really any issues cropping either. I also got the Sony 50mm 1.8 and it works much better then I thought it would. I use it for shooting most of the time and love it. I think the r3 would kill me for work flow. Great video

I just ordered the a7r iii but I'm beginning to wonder if that was the right decision. I currently have the a6400 which I've loved, but I really wanted to go into the full-frame market. I do the occasional landscapes so I figured the extra megapixel count would be beneficial, but now that I'm looking further into it I'm beginning to second guess my decision. I'm wondering about real-world autofocus performance between the two, and video quality. What are your thoughts on those areas?

Mr.T I appreciate you brother. I had the Rii and either body is an upgrade from the rii. The focusing, color science, improved features, battery, etc all makes it worth it!
For Budget and Workflow reasons I decided to purchase the A7iii ... and I am happy !!
Stuck between the two coming from a6300 looking to grow into a bigger market and have production style look. Budget is about 2200 and found a7iii for 1380 and A7riii for 1500 and already on full frame glass.

Nice video by the way. I am in the market to upgrade from my current A7R2. I am more a photographer but would not mind to get into the videography side of things. I know on paper the A7 III has more AF than the A7RIII, do you find any real life difference in use? In other words, do you find the A7RIII AF in anyway or form limiting you from taking the photos which you intend to take?
to be honest both are amazing and dont like the MP confuse you. The a7iii is just perfect if you're looking for a great fullframe camera.
What filters are you using? I have the A6500 and the A7Rii, and I'm trying to learn how the filters can enhance my shoots. Great vid!

I would love to see the A7III AF up against the 1Dx2. From what I understand the A7III borrows the A9 AF system but not in the A7RIII. Going with the A7III had me worried at first as I wanted to use Sigma/canon glass with MC-11. It has not disappointed. A7III AF with Sigma 150-600c is bonkers. In fact its a serious game changer
I had my eye on the 1Dx2 but now cant see myself going back to Canon "prices"
If the A7RIII had the A9 AF it would be great for 18MP crop for sports/wildlife. Cant say I would gain much with the 1dx2 other than weather sealing.

Great video. I've used the Sony A7s II and loved the low light performance. Now I'm trying to decide between one of these and the BM Pocket Camera. It's hard to beat that price. IKR?? Jeez, now I'm moving away from the BM Pocket and the Sony cams and looking at the GH5s. The Sony cams don't shoot 60 fps at 4K. The GH5 does and also shoots 4K at 23.98 fps at 400 Mb/s (although the still camera side of it only shoots 10 MP). These freakin' cameras! Lol! Man, I'd love to collab! I'm supposed to be in L.A. end of Sept. Let's make it happen.
I feel you bro, I have no issue with sony's 120fps and 60fps. The 120 I can upscale to a 4k timeline with no real loss of data. All the client work I do is for social media and websites so I've yet to have any issues. 4k 60 would be nice but personally after using a GH5 and seeing the performance of the GH5s's autofocus I'm good on it. With my style of run and gun filmmaking I need the AF to be on point. The a7iii is around the corner bro maybe just hold out if you can!
That's good to know about the slow mo. I've had to do that before with other cameras, I just didn't want to "have" to do it again. Lol. I'm going to rent a couple this week and see what's what. I might just wait, like you said. It'll depend on what I see when I rent them.

Leaning to the A7Riii. I usually hire a cinematographer, produce, cover all the stills and get b roll. I also do a lot of wildlife photography and get hired to cover events - both stills and video. Almost ready to leave Nikon because my production team has mostly Sony too. Any more input? Thanks! Great informative video!
Hey Jason, great video comparison. I'm a bit torn on what to get. I currently have a 6300. Now, while I like the ISO of the A7iii the image quality I feel would be the same for day time shooting. Considering the A6300 and the a7iii both have 24MP sensors. Also, when I buy the 85mm 1.8 and the 90mm macro I won't see the full PQ potential unless I go with the A7Rii. Than there's the part of me that feels I would be the only person looking at these high quality photographs since social media heavily compresses the PQ. I like to do a little bit of everything when it comes to photography. Another part of me just wants to wait until Sony unveils their new cameras. Fingers crossed they'll stay within budget, but I'm not holding my breath either.
I wish the Sony (or any mirrorless) felt right in my hands. I like the size of the EOS-R, but it's definitely challenged in video. I'm sure I'll be stuck with bulky dslrs forevermore 😄

I’d like to step up to a full frame camera from the A6000 I’ve been using to teach myself photography. I’m primarily interested in (landscape) photos, not really video so image quality is probably more important to what I do. What would you recommend? I’m on the fence between these two.

KO_visuals for myself personally I always use Sony glass. It was just recently that sigma and tamron came out with emount lenses. You can adapt canon glass but the af isn’t as good especially for video.

A7rIII open box is around $2070 on ebay vs $1750 for the A7III so this is my dilemma. I like the better EVF and LCD on the R3, but like the A7III for focus and low light. I am more of a photographer than video shooter. what do you think? thanks for the great video
I am still undecided. I started and still own Nikon glass with D7100 as mount. Superb camera and has made me learn and enjoy so much. Around a year ago I wanted to try Full frame and so went ahead with cheapest option available the Sony A7. I got myself a 55mm f1.8 and 90mm GMaster macro. Got good results and I continued using both. However always questioned myself that Am I wise enough to invest in 2 camera bodies rather than invest in one and learn more. Again I don’t earn out of Photography.. it’s a hobby which I love and can invest. Pls suggest. And thanks for good review.
Honestly if you were to just pick one it wouldn't matter because both are amazing. Being I earn a living doing this and need 2 bodies on specific shoots I had to grab both!

So I got the Sony a 7R3 and I’m using a 50 mm lens. I’ve used a Canon EOS 70D for the past five years and I was looking to upgrade into the Canon 5D when I go to the store and picked up the 5D I realized how heavy it was and big so my friend let me borrow his Sony a 7R2 and within less than a week I was convinced that Sony is the best option so today I picked up the a 7R3

Tough to decide, but I'll be printing very little. Most of my stuff will go on social media. For me, not about money, as the R can be had for 2500, factory refurb. The low light performance trumps mega pixels for me, because it extends shooting range times by what? Double? Is higher resolution obvious on social media? I don't know..anyone?
I agree about the low light, when it comes to higher MP it's only evident in prints so you can easily get away with the 7iii all day long.

It depends what you're doing. I was at the sony Be Alpha event this weekend shooting with both of mine. The EVF is way better on the riii and it's very apparent. I had no issues with either focusing on fast moving models skating on a vert ramp. I love the riii for photos because it allows you to really crop in if needed without detail loss. Another thing I noticed between the both even tho the 7iii is my workhorse for video I do like the colors out of camera better on the riii. All my settings are EXACT and when filming interviews the riii angle color wise always looks better out of camera and I do have to do some color correction to get them to match.
I wouldn't a7riii is a beast. I have a7iii and want to add the a7riii hopefully in the near future.

I have buyed a Year bevore the A7III came out the A7II. I Pay just another year the camera off.
So if i have luck the next gen A7 IV will be avialable and i sell the A7II to buy a Lens from the money and buy the new Body. Ithink 24MP are great enough for a normal person like me.

Everything. Bieginn with the bigger Battery Pack =P Better AF and Backlight Sensor. Silent shooting are amazing and i think that a clever guy can build a app that make the A7II silent shoot.
More is better when it is balanced and at this Price it is amazing!

Really can't say because there is no such thing, however the most versatile lenses I use on a daily basis would be the Tamron 28-75mm if you have the money the 24-70mm gmaster

greetings from thailand. great vids. will check all them out. got the a7Riii with the g series 100-400 and 16-35 along with Zeiss 85mm portrait and 35-105 normal sony lens. haven't shot much video....pics are amazing. amateur photographer but my pics look like i'm a pro. i'm still learning the camera especially the S&Q mode. will start shooting more vid soon.

I can get a7riii for 400€ more than a7iii, worth it? For portrait pics and video
just get A7 III the R is not worth the 1000 bucks. No one and i mean NO one is going to notice the difference between the images. i shot weddings proffesional with a A6500 for more than a year and just bought the A7III. my point is even with the A6500 the pictures where high quality for like 99% of the consumers. its all about the money
It depends what you're doing for sure. Landscapes, prints, editorial I can see the riii being someone's go to if they had to pick just one. I copped the riii prior to the 7iii being announced so I didn't have the option. If I could do it again I would've got 2 7iii's and the extra cash got some glass haha

I was struggling to decide between A7iii and 7Riii in the end I went with the A7Riii. I’m a sucker for sharp high resolution photos.
If you are stuck between the 2 think about the lens, if you can’t afford a quality lens when buying the A7Riii then buy the A7iii there is no point having either of these cameras with a cheap lens.
A7III, coming from the 5Ds and hardly ever used the 50mp. I use medium format if I ever do need more. 24mp is more than plenty for anything.
A7R3 for photo and A73 for video the perfect combo

Hey brother, both sensors are similar bit different. The a7iii has a new backlit sensor which helps it perform better in low light with better ISO performance and has more focusing points compared to the Riii. The Riii still has an amazing sensor.

I'd personally stick to mirrorless, the a99II is outdated right now and think the newer bodies are the way to go to be honest.

Does image down sampling from higher Megapixel to lower megapixels in post reduces the noise and improves the overall look of the image? For that matter, down sampling from 24 MP to 16 versus 42 to 16 shows up any difference on the end result? Anyone having idea about this, may guide me... Thanks in advance for your time and consideration to comment!
I personally believe so, you have to think . . . . If you downsample you're making pixels smaller and in return making the noisy footage smaller! I know a lot of people who downsample video for that reason alone. Assuming it works with photos as well but have yet to try it!
@@ImJasonAnthony You are not "making pixels smaller". Rather you are redistributing the original high resolution image information across less pixels, so artifacts and noise get averaged out. However, the end result will also contain far less detail (To a certain extend you can counter this by sharpening the image). Considering the excellent low light performance of mirrorless cameras, I am of the opinion that it is a waste of image quality to downsample from 42 to 16 just for noise reduction. There are tools with Camera Raw and Photoshop/Lightroom that will achieve that better without degrading the overall image. If Noise is you only concern, the A7iii is an excellent choice. Even upsampling it to 42MP will still result in very sharp images perfectly usable for printing.

Night and day difference. The a7ii is great but a bit outdated compared to the 7iii Trevor.

On Grey Market shipping over the uk the a7r3 is Anmut 2250€ ans the a73 is Anmut 1950€ so not much difference there
