    Instructions here:
    1. **Materials Needed:**
    - 100% cotton yarn, 250 meters per skein
    - Knitting needles: 5.5mm diameter, 60cm circular
    - Stitch markers
    - Tapestry needle
    - Scissors
    - Crochet hook
    2. **Starting the Bag:**
    - Using the 5.5mm needle, cast on 32 stitches.
    - Knit the first row in garter stitch (knit every stitch).
    3. **Increasing Rows:**
    - From the 5th row onwards, increase at the beginning and end of the row three times in total. (5th row = increase, 6th row = by pattern, 7th row = increase, 8th row = by pattern, 9th row increase, 10th row = by pattern)
    - Continue knitting in pattern (garter stitch) for a total of 14 rows.
    4. **Decreasing Rows:**
    - Decrease symmetrically three times across a row starting from the 15th row. (15th row = decrease, 16th row = by pattern, 17th row = decrease, 18th row = by pattern, 19th row decrease, 20th row = by pattern)
    - Knit four more rows in pattern after decreases.
    5. **Completing the Bottom:**
    - Finish with a total of 24 rows, maintaining 32 stitches throughout.
    - The widest part should measure 23cm, with a height of 7cm.
    6. **Transitioning to Circular Knitting:**
    - Cast on 22 stitches on each side edge (total of 108 stitches).
    - Join in the round and knit every round in garter stitch.
    7. **Knitting the Body:**
    - Alternate between knit rounds and purl rounds until the bag reaches 27cm in height.
    8. **Changing Yarn Skeins:**
    - Join the new skein of yarn when the first one runs out, leaving ends to weave in later.
    9. **Creating Handles:**
    - Divide stitches for handles with markers (54 stitches per handle).
    - Work each handle separately, switching to straight needles.
    - Knit in garter stitch for 21 rows or until handles measure 16cm.
    10. **Finishing Handles:**
    - Cast off stitches in each handle.
    - Seam handles securely to the sides of the bag.
    11. **Final Touches:**
    - Weave in all loose ends on the wrong side of the bag using a tapestry needle.
    - Steam block the bag to shape and flatten stitches.
    12. **Completion and Final Steps:**
    - Review the bag for any adjustments.
    - Share your finished project online and encourage others to try!

      Hi! You are welcome!
      I knitted a bag using a 2.5 mm diameter cotton cord. In principle, you can use different materials, as the pattern, a garter stitch, is versatile. However, I recommend avoiding very thin yarns so that the bag can serve as a shopper and hold an adequate amount of items. Polyester or acrylic cord would work well. It's best to avoid using excessively large diameters to prevent the bag from becoming too heavy. You can also use t-shirt yarn, preferably instead of standard 9 mm use thin variants with a width of 5-7 mm. Different types of cords and t shirt yarn are the most common for knitting bags. However, you can also use regular yarn for summer clothing, such as cotton or blended materials. If you choose thin yarn, knit it with two strands.

      Hello! Please accept my apologies for the late response. I'll try to make up for it soon. I've just posted a new knitting video, and I hope you'll enjoy it. Regarding your question about increasing the size of the bag, since this bag was knitted using a garter pattern, you can safely increase the number of stitches. I'm not sure which yarn you'll be using for the bag, so you can start by knitting a sample, and based on your measurements, determine the necessary stitch count. As we begin with the bag's bottom, which also defines its future size, make the bottom larger than what I showed in the video. Also, please recalculate the stitches once you finish knitting the bag's bottom, as we'll divide that count by 4 when we start knitting the handles. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out.

      @@knittingwithgulnur Thank you for the explanation. Does it mean it is a multiple of 4 stitches?

    • @knittingwithgulnur
      @knittingwithgulnur  Рік тому +1

      @@hameeda2743 If you think about it, you don't need to worry about making it a multiple of 4, as our pattern is very simple. So, if you want a larger bag, just knit a larger bottom. When it's time to knit the handles, distribute the stitches more or less evenly. I think a few stitches more or less won't make much of a difference. If we had bold patterns like cables or intricate designs, we would definitely need to calculate the exact stitch count. So for now, knit it simpler and enjoy the process❤❤

      Hi, if you have straight needles, you can only knit the bottom of this bag with them. To knit the body of the bag, you'll need circular needles so that you can knit in the round. Even if you have double-pointed needles and their length allows you to accommodate all the stitches, it will still be challenging to work with them

    • @knittingwithgulnur
      @knittingwithgulnur  5 місяців тому +1

      In my opinion, for circular knitting, circular needles are the most suitable. Otherwise, you would need long double-pointed needles, consisting of 4 needles, but knitting in that case might be more challenging. The most ideal option for this bag is circular needles. If you have regular straight needles, I have another tutorial on my channel where I demonstrate knitting 2 simple bags using the garter stitch pattern. The first one, which I knitted with green and lilac yarn, is suitable for such needles. I'll leave the link, and you can check it out. ua-cam.com/video/vRTEao2NRak/v-deo.html

      Hi! I knitted this bag from a cotton cord with a diameter of 2.5 mm. You can use a 2 mm, 2.5 mm, or a light 3 mm cord. In terms of composition, it can be cotton, polyester, or there are also acrylic cords. I think any of these can be used for knitting. Additionally, make sure to choose the appropriate size of knitting needles. If you have any further questions, I would be happy to answer them.

    • @knittingwithgulnur
      @knittingwithgulnur  5 місяців тому +1

      Using a needle with a large eye, which is used for sewing knitted pieces together or for ribbon embroidery, I thread a cord or some thick yarn through it. Then I transfer the loops from the needle onto the cord that are not needed for the work yet. Only the loops needed for the work remain on the needles. Alternatively, you can transfer the loops onto other circular needles if you have any extras.

    How did you change the placement of the working yarn before you started the handles? In 21:58 it's next to the red marker, where you finished the previous row, but in 21:59 it's somewhere else. Is it a new thread?

    • @knittingwithgulnur
      @knittingwithgulnur  Рік тому +1

      HI! First, all the loops were divided into four parts to knit four straps. The loops required for one strap are those that are currently on the needles. However, the beginning of the row falls in the middle of the needle. While knitting the first strap, I did not cut the thread from the skein. According to the garter stitch pattern, I would have needed to knit the loops knit-wise until the red marker.
      After the red marker, the purl loops should be knitted. To avoid interrupting the thread at this point, I decided to knit these loops until the red marker as purl loops, so that all the loops on the needle became the same, i.e., purl. This is necessary because when we knit garter stitch back and forth, all subsequent rows are knitted as knitwise loops.
      Once you have finished knitting this first strap, you can cut off the thread, since the remaining straps will be knitted separately, and we will attach the thread from the skein.
      I hope I was able to explain it to you.

      @@grsy98 while transferring stitches onto the needle, you need to unravel a little, until the yellow marker. From there you start knitting the handle flat. You should purl the first row and since you unravelled some stitches, the garter will be a little disrupted there but it's okay. You don't care about the red marker anymore.

    Is 60cm the same as a number 6mm knitting needle?

    • @knittingwithgulnur
      @knittingwithgulnur  25 днів тому

      Yes, that's correct. However, the size and length of the needles depend on the yarn you choose and the size of the bag itself. I have a not-so-big shopper here, and the yarn is 3 mm in diameter. For this thickness, the needles I used were a good fit because I recommend knitting the bag more tightly than clothing to prevent the knit from being too loose and the bag from stretching too much during use. The reason why the size and length of the needles depend on the yarn and the size of the bag is that this is a very simple pattern, garter stitch, which is suitable for a wide range of yarns. By casting on more or fewer stitches at the beginning, you can adjust the size of the bag, making it larger, medium, or even quite small, depending on your preference. Happy knitting!

      Hello! By this point, we've knitted the bottom in a shape roughly resembling an oval, using turning rows. Now, to knit the top of the bag in the round, I was picking up stitches along the edges. When I said 'the same way at 16:31, I meant to repeat picking up stitches along the side like at 12:07. The idea is to pick up stitches around the perimeter of the bottom to transition to knitting the body of the bag. If my response is unclear, please let me know, and I'll clarify.

    i am confused, R11 by pattern right ? So knit like R2 or R6 ?

    • @knittingwithgulnur
      @knittingwithgulnur  5 місяців тому +1

      This pattern is for garter stitch. When knitting in the round, you alternate between one wrong-side row and one right-side row. In the video, for the first row, I started knitting purl stitches from the beginning to the end, marking the end of the row. Then, for the second row, from the beginning to the marker (end of row), I only knitted knit stitches. So, we should alternate between wrong-side and right-side rows until we reach the point where we start knitting the handles. That means all odd rows, such as 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, etc., are knitted like row 1, and all even rows, such as 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, etc., are knitted like row 2. When knitting the bottom of the bag and the handles, we switch to turning rows, and all rows are knitted with knit stitches during turning. I hope I was able to explain it well. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Happy knitting!

    • @knittingwithgulnur
      @knittingwithgulnur  5 місяців тому

      @@reisanguyen111 So, let me explain how to knit the bottom. First, I cast on 32 stitches onto the needles and knitted a total of 4 rows (there were 32 stitches on the needles). Then, starting from the 5th row, every other row, I made 3 increases, as I demonstrated when knitting the 5th row. Then, I showed how to knit the increases from the 5th row in the 6th row, where I made the first increase at the beginning of the row through the front loop and the last increase at the end of the row through the back loop. Let's go back to the increases. The first increase was in the 5th row, the second in the 7th row, and the last third increase was in the 9th row. Since I only make increases every other row, I knitted the 6th, 8th, and 10th rows without increases, just as I knitted the 6th row. So, by the time you finish the 10th row, because you increased 3 times by 2 stitches each time, you'll have 38 stitches on the needles. Then, when I say to knit according to the pattern, it means that no increases or decreases are needed; you just knit the pattern itself, which in our case is knit stitches in the turning rows. Turning rows are when you knit one row, turn the work, and knit the next row. So, we knit rows 11 through 14 as row 10, with 38 stitches on the needles. Next, to make the bottom of the bag symmetrical, we need to return to the initial number of 32 stitches. Therefore, just as we made 3 increases, we make 3 decreases in the same way. The first decrease is in the 15th row, the second in the 17th row, and the last in the 19th row. I demonstrate how to decrease when knitting the 15th row(knit 2 stitches together), and how to knit according to the pattern without changes, which is the 16th row. So, you knit rows 15, 17, and 19 like the 15th row, and rows 16, 18, and 20 like the 16th row. That's it! Let me know if it's clearer now. If not, I can explain it differently. It's a pleasure for me to teach you something new, especially if this is one of your first projects.
