  • Kokanee need scent in the water to aggravate them to strike. Combined with sweet white shoepeg corn, my secret cure blend of ingredients does just that. fish with confidence knowing these recipes have been tested and proven effective. And they attract trout too.
It seems that, and especially with Kokanee, there is some specific variable that triggers a consistent bite. Lure color, the type of lure, what dodger is used, what the length of the leader is. trolling speed all play a role. and once you find the magic its game on with easy limits. Now add an additional variable, corn. But not just corn, specifically Shoepeg corn, the type of corn that suddenly disappears from the supermarket shelves signaling the Kokanee season has begun. And then the secretive ritual of curing the corn. Best done by the light of a full moon in the caldron passed down through the generations. There is such an enigma to it all, and I am not immune. Ive shared my current recipes here as a starting point in your journey. Have fun with it and experiment to make it your own, or send some feedback as to what has worked for you to help me in my journey, and thank you.

Nice healthy Koke! Thanks for the corn recipe. Like fishing lures, one can never have too much 😂. Great video! 👍👍👍

It’s always the feeling that there is the one special lure or dodger or corn flavor that will trigger the bite. Just part of the fun when you hit the combination right for that day. Especially for Kokanee who are so finicky. Thanks for the comment

Thanks! I think I perhaps saw you out on the lake yesterday (Wednesday). What radio channel do folks at New Melones use? We had to work hard yesterday put finally started getting into a rhythm near the dam entrance. Also, out of curiosity, do you actually mark fish on the sonar and down scan? We just weren't marking much, so I may need to take a look at our transducer.

That was us. We use channel 69 but not sure how many people are using their radios . Give a shout out if you’re on the water I’m glad to share whatever information I might have or commiserate, misery loves company. We got into them in the same area more trout than Kokanee but a consistent bite. Lots of arches so your sensitivity settings might the problem. Most of our fish were within 15’ of the surface and the planner boards were the most productive. Red hoochies 8” behind a dodger 1.4MPH had one set up with a single color of led core out 120’ that was hot. Had 15 to the boat by noon.Hope that helps. Another video for that trip should be out on Friday. Thanks for commenting, tight lines.
