Hi Big Dog, just rewatched this video from 2012. You were very helpful when I was starting ADV riding - and your advice still applies! The few things I've changed over the years are: I now wear a long-sleeve Merino wool T-shirt (extra comfortable, washable). I switched to an alcohol stove for heating water (using yellow Heet and I don't cook elaborate meals.) And I usually pack a down top quilt for both tent and hammock camping, combined with a liner and an insulated ground pad. I'm still bicycle touring, too - and have coined the term "MotorBikePacking" for my lightweight crossover tours on backcountry motorcycles.

Man this is excellent stuff. It's good to see that I have the bases covered, even though you've definitely got this down! Very nice work.

    Nice video, thanks!
I agree...have a consistant packing method, and once it works well - you bring the "whole kit" for one night or more. That way you always have what you need.
Clothes can be the space eater: go synthetic and go light with layering options for weather range expected. What you have on AND a pair of synthetic boxers, socks, and a single long sleeve, short sleeve and pair of pants (the zip legs are great)...your set.

Bigdogadventures, that is awesome! You are my new hero.... I've wanted to do this stuff for a long time. About to get a new bike and I'm definitely leaning towards the WR250R. Sounds like you are happy with it!! Great job... Don't stop exploring.. If you ever make it to North Texas I would love to meet you!!

I try and have everything on my bike multi purpose .. using the victorinox swiss tool and a swiss champ together , they make my tool kit super light ( I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT COMBO OF TOOLS . I have a stove that uses gasoline so i have fuel for cooking and a spare gas can .I used to keep a AA maglight and a headlight , now i only keep the headlight .I keep a battery charger that has a USB so i can charge things in my tent from the AA batteries in the charger .

No idea why anyone who uses the forest in a motorized format would shop at REI! They will gladly take your money and use it to try to keep you on the superslab and no place else.
Beyond my dislike of that backstabbing company, I think that your video was great! Good info, and wise set up. You sure have a lot more bags than I would like to carry, but I could not tell you what you should get rid of to make it fit smaller. Thanks for taking the time & thanks to your wife as well.
    Kind Regards
