Hello Bruce. Unfortunately, due to the high mileage, the o-ring on the output of the feeder is worn out. And that's where the engine oil usually leaks. I know from experience. I have two of these at home. One 460 hp 1.9 million kilometers and one 530 hp 2.5 million kilometers . The feeder must be dismantled and the o-ring and seals replaced. I'm glad you take care of these machines with love. They're not as big as American trucks. But they're a lot stronger and tougher than their counterparts out there. Best regards. Balázs from Hungary
Awesome to hear that Ville is coming over for a visit! Also look forward to the second trip to Sweden, and other videos (long story short, I look forward to new videos!)
If those sweet looking alloy wheels came off the red truck remove the wheel studs off of it and use them on the black one. Then use the shorter studs off the black one for the red one as it presumably will use steel wheels. Quick Tip: Start the studs in their splined holes and then pull them in with the nuts.
I served my apprenticeship back in the 70's on Scania 110's & 11's where I first came across centrifugal-type oil filters. I was always amazed at the carbon build-up & took great pleasure in pealing it out of the filter housing (weird ay, lol). Great video again mate, love your Scania appreciation.
Hi Bruce. 1. The Compressor is mounted with Two upper screws from the back and one lower from the front. The lower screw goes through the transmission cover and is then attached to the alternator bracket. Transmission / Opticruise: On the right side of the gearbox there is an actuator. Its job is to change gears and it is operated by air. Inside there is oil. And I recommend that it will be changed at every major service. It uses ATF oil (same as the red oil for the power steering).
Kungens Kurva = Kings Curve. One of the first IKEA shops is right there. The highway has a bend and the Swedish King at the time drove into the ditch thus drivning to fast in the bend.
Well, the rumor about King Gustav V ending up in the ditch was because during the drive the king, who was gay, gave his driver a BJ during the drive. So Kungens Kurva equals Kings Bend
Iv grown up in ireland with scanias. .i even worked in delaney commercials a main scania dealer....but im ADDICTED to your scania content. I never gave them the appreciation when i was actually there. I remember when the R series launched and the WHOLE place was in the yard swooning over it❤🇮🇪🇺🇸
Nice one mate. I though did appreciate them, back in the 70's serving my apprenticeship, the only opposition was working on AEC, Albion, Guy, Scammell, Foden, ERF, Seddon, Atkinson, Leyland, Bedford etc. I worked for British Road Services (Worcester) unfortunately our depot had no Volvo's for me to compare with.
UV dye is irreplaceable for diagnosing leaks. all parts houses carry it, use more than the bottle suggests. I always use x2 as much as the bottle says to use, it just gives brighter results. look into it if you haven't before.
Kungens kruva = king's curve between Södertälje and Stockholm in Sweden. The background to the name is that the Cadillac Series 75 Fleetwood Sedan of the 1939 model in which King Gustaf V traveled here drove into the ditch on Saturday afternoon, September 28, 1946. You are welcome to Sweden. :)
Hey Bruce, Koni Headquarter is in the Netherlands. I had the shorter yellow adjustables in my very first car. They are mostly used in racing to lower the car but streetworthy, too. Best shocks ever are the ones from Bilstein.
Bruce, your coolant leak is looking at you and laughing. If you look at your coolant pump it is like the rest of your engine. It’s got a fair bit of oil all over it except for fro the rear of the pulley. The coolant is coming from under your pulley and being spun onto the pump housing. If you can take the pulley off you will see it coming from the tell-tale hole or the marks from where it is slowly dripping out. The hole is used to give you early warning of a worn seal or bearing. If you pressure test it the pressure can blow the seal harder onto the spindle and actually tell you lies. One of those jobs where patience is a virtue. Order a pump now so you’ve got one ready before you strip the old one out.
Those holes in the alloy rims could be a different size to promote airflow between the inside to outside. Just like the cooling fan blades on an alternator pulley are different sizes.
Contact Guy Martin (Isle of Man TT race driver, sideburns, batshit crazy). He worked as a Scania mechanic in UK (maybe still), in the tv show he said that loves the old Scania. Maybe a collaboration. He travels the world and do all stupid crazy shit.
Kungens kurva means the Kings Curve. The king´s driver slid off the road into a ditch many years ago, hence the name. Kungens kurva is most known in Sweden for having the first IKEA department store (and the largest i the world). Prior to that IKEA was just post ordered with a small factory store
No it's not. The drive and liftaxel should be the same size. When the wheels on the drive axel starts to get worn out you move them to the lift and get new on the drive.
No problem having smaller tires on the tag. It is very practical when you ride with a lifted axle. You get much better ground clearance and clearance between the tag wheels and the trailer. It helps a lot riding over sharp bumps, etc.
Last time I saw a clean oil seperator filter on a scania was due to worn out bushings on the seperator that leaks oil pressure. The nozzles need some oil pressure to spin the seperator. Nice Scania btw👍
Cleaning and lubricating the window seals, and guide tracks on any vehicle can significantly help the function especially when the vehicle is older. Did it on my wife’s car and it’s like brand new
Hey Bruce, the plastic hanging under the engine is for better airflow, better mileage and also less enginesound. It might not look like much but it make a big difference. The Oil syclone service kit includes a paperinsert for easy cleaning.
the plastic pans/trays under the engine are called drip pans/trays, as in that is what they are used for is to catch spillages before they end up on the road surface and causing potential problems for other road users, should also make the bottom of the engine more aerodynamic as well directing wind so that the wind doesn't find a spot to slow the truck or vehicle down leading to better fuel ecconomy. but it is also another way for you to find if you got an engine leak somewhere as the tray will be wet rather than dry, so helps you to find if you got a fast leak or a slow leak if checked regularly with the vehicles weekly walk around checks/maintenance schedule. but does also mean that when you got a fast leak could be a little while before you notice the ground being wet under the vehicle due to the diapered effect as you put it!!
These wheels look sweet. The plastic cover is for better air flow and maybe also to keep mud and salt off the engine as the metal parts corrode quite heavily when exposed to the brine that forms when roads are de-iced with salt.
That cover that covers the oil pan is for aero and it holds heat in for people that have harsh winters there trucks need extra covers to keep the engine warm
Bruce. Just got an idea. In stead of putting the tanks from that shop on the black scania. Use the tanks of the red scania for it might fit and looks awesome. (Just got to paint them)
if the centrifugal oil cleaner is clean and the engine oil has not been changed, it may be an indication that the centrifugal oil cleaner is not working properly. but yours in particular looked like someone had just cleaned it. I actually work at Scania in King's Curve! 😂
Good to see appreciation of the Scania procuct in the Land of Noise, Smoke & Chrome! R530 - the last incarnation of the mostly "augmented" mechanical, 14lt V8!! P.S. get a set of crank bearings while in Sweden!! notorious for spinning main bearings, way back when, here in the Land of Oz.. usually on B double duty, 65t +. Chattering of injection pump &/or air comp if allowed to come loose, damages tcase plate.. leaks oil Get some opticruise kits too!! Love your work Pete P.S.S. have u checked out what some of the European & Brit Operators do to customise their beloved Scanias? It's only money!
It looks really good underneath, the leaks are pretty normal for a truck that age. I would put the money into the black one, i am a bit jealous. Great to have spare part truck :) I may be able to turn up at the dealer in kungens kurva :)
Traction will turn on more often than you'd expect even with the proper tires. suspension can be on the soft side and that is what does it. My 2016 Series 6 does that but not my 2022. Rear tires are without a doubt 315s, all of them. and 385 at the front.
Correct pronunciation Bruce! Nice! The name 'Kungens Kurva' reads in English 'The Kings Bend' and refers to when the old former king slid off the road, riding his shining Fleetwood Cadillac, in that long big nice curve that now carries his name and driving skills. 🤣Welcome to Sweden Bruce!
Hey Bruce;you should look for a hubpilot conversion kit for Scanias if the hubs on Scanias are studpilots, and get in touch with the folks at Alcoa and see if they can manufacture a set of aluminum Alcoas and put a set of polished aluminum Alcoas on the Scania. That's if Scania even makes hubpilot hubs.
to answer your question what that is @9:50 the cover pan under the engine can be a "legally required" collecting pan that prevents oil contamination from getting into the field. That's exactly the problem you're having with oil and coolant loss, right now?! You should know that we sometimes have the “most stupid laws” in Europe How do I get that?! The "truck" was used on the farm in the fields when it´s harvesting season. The tub only holds the loose, oily dirt that falls down, and if the machine has problems it doesn't help anymore For example we have a badge on municipal trucks with an "L" on it, which stands for "QUIET" and is found especially on trucks that drive in cities. They have a "noise protection package" installed so that they drive more quietly... but... then a 25 ton hydraulic crusher press to compress garbage??? WTF?!" you are no longer woken up by the noise of the engine at 5 in the morning but by the hydraulics!!!
Sell that bubble-wrapper on your shop :D Very statisfying popping them :P The cardboard boxes, would fit nice as cat-homes :) Maybe donate it to a shelter or sell them to some hobbyist doing minituer builds and that.
The centrifuge should be smooth inside for it to work good. On older scanias there is only the centrifuge, no filter so it is more important on those engines. If you can find a spare, change it. Always use hard plastic or wood (wood paint mixer sticks work great, if you have them in the us) when scraping out the gunk from the housing
hi bruce, I noticed with the black Scania that you have 3 leave springs on the front axle, just change that to the other 2 spring leaves, the ride is much smoother.
i am not a trucker but like all truck in the eu have those plastic covers for the wheels they brake easy with tyer blow outs so they replace them a lot
If a wheel alignment doesn’t solve the problem check if it’s got the proper caster block. You may need to change it. My series 4 I had came to Australia with LHD caster blocks it pulled left bad. The V8s are renowned for leaking manifold gaskets .
Also check the air-con pump what runs on the belt on the top I had one what broke down in south off France it was very expensive to fix on the side of the road. The pump went sticky and the belt broke down ,,,,, you got also repair kits with shorter Belts you short cut the air-con pump greetings Alexander Netherlands
in the genuine service kit you get a thin card type insert which goes inside and stops the carbon sticking to the spinner also makes it easier to clean .
Epic! You do that because you can, Bruce. Who else would ever have the bearings to buy a truck without even lifting the cab to look at the engine, and drive her across America from N to S and not stress about coolant leaks, besides all the engine drool 🤤 🤤 all over. I'm sure you could fix all these issues right there on the kerb, ordering parts to be delivered to the middle of of I-29. You are such a garage cowboy, man. A rare type these days. Legend !!!
Hey Bruce. No idea if you already noticed that this scania probably also comes from the Netherlands. On the rear fender is a logo of a Dutch transport company VSb.
15:30 - Afaik you don't need to change the power steering filter in these ever, except when you swap some parts in the power steering (and thus the fluid).
The difference on the tire size shouldn’t have anything to do with your abs/esp light coming on. You can drive with axel off the ground with out any warning lights coming on…. Beside, it’s normal to run with smaller tires on the lazy axel, due to higher ground clearance when lifted off the up…
Hei Bruce. Put the big hole wheels on the drives and the small ones at the tag's. And in Norway we do run smaler tires on the tag so the tires dont rub the underside og the trailer when the tag is lifted.
The plastic covers are soundproofing and protection from dirt and snow in addition to aerodynamics. You are missing a couple. Greetings from a former scania technician turned scania driver
Weld a chain to a pipe. Run the not welded end threw the pipe. place the loop over the filter and turn the chain will binned against the pipe to prevent slipping. I made one to take off oil filters when I was a young lad the pipe was a 1 in. about 3 Ft. long worked grate tossed all of the junk commercial ones in the burning barrel. lol
When you have a crack in a plastic part it will help to stop the crack from cracking father if you go to just ahead of the crack and drill a hole in the plastic to stop the crack from moving ahead.
21:30 it's a spinner filter centrifugal oil cleaner it's supposed to have a paper filter in it We used them on the old Detroit engine to clean the carbon out of the oil
Kungens kurva? That literally means "The curve of The King". Being a Finn I don't remember The Swedish history so well but I recommend to ask your hosts about that location. (That is a bit delicate story. A bit like Teddy Kennedy and driving...)
The mechanic at a company I used to work at said that the Scania V8s are much better to work on than the I6 engines. Some parts need to be changed quite regularly, but those parts are more often than not quite easy to change.
centrifugal looked fine, hope you can get parts. alot of the old trucks are day or 3 days to find parts for, ussually stock stuff for 2006 and up mostly
hey bruce just wanted to ask does this scania already have a open pipe, if not and you'd put one on make sure you dont make a ton of u shapes in the exhaust it'll sound like bolts in a can/ very raspy, 2-3 maybe 4 bends/u shapes is perfect
Hi Bruce from down Under, would love to see you guys do a tour down under. We have Awsome Scanias down here,no I dont own one, love to though but we are spoilt with all trucks around the world.Brisbane Truck Show 2024 will take place from the 13th to the 14st May, 2024 in Brisbane, Australia. This Show is a popular and trendy event. Held every two years, the Brisbane Truck Show attracts more than 300 exhibitors and up to 40,000 attendees over the four days of entry. Please consider as it is your Summer our winter.Take Care, Cheers 🤠😎
There is no problem , in running Front 385/65 R22.5 Drive 315/80 R 22.5 And on the lift aksel . 315/70 R 22.5 Or 315/60 R 22.5 You Can also run 315/70 R22.5 on the drive . The truck should normal not give any Warming on this size.
Yeah, but if you do run different tires on different sides and aksels, then you do get issues, one might be slightly larger then the rest of them, and that is an issue
@@Battlenude no! Never ! I ran an 164 and an R 500 , back in 2009. On 315/70 on the drive and 315/60 on tag aksel . Never any problems . Also on mid lift trucks 315/70 on drive and 355/50 on lift aksel .
You got your self a real gem there ! Way it looks no one took care of it and didn’t take pride in there ride myself no matter what I have driven I always tried to maintain and fixed everything I could no matter how big of terd I was driving zip ties and duct tape to make out what it isnt
Kungens Kurva is in English Kings turn! Named after the King drove his car in to the ditch there! The incident happened at 1948 it was not the King that drove the car it was his Chauffeur but they started to call that Kungens Kurva after that!
I am not sure what is possible to buy in Canada, but one project that would be interesting is if Bruce got hold of a euro-truck from a truck and trailer set (not the semi tractor). Remove what is on it and add a fifth wheel, and he would have a euro-truck about the same length as a conventional tractor. The fifth wheel could be bolted on the chassis to fit the american trailers. Then he would have the best from both worlds, the stability of a longer tractor and the comfort of the euro-truck.
For the cab jack, why don't you get a small hydraulic pump that usually takes an electric motor or belt to run it, and put a nut on the end of the shaft, and use a cordless electric impact or drill to operate it? That would be awesome!
Inside of the oil centrifugal should be lined with a thick waterproop paper wich the pirticles stick to. And egen you clean the centrifugal, you just change the paper.
Another great video Bruce 👍 every day is a school day as they say, great that the guys from Finland are visiting you and can't wait to see what happens in Sweden 🤔 maybe the North USA scania dealership is closer to opening
Need to order spare parts Bruce it’s one of those even if you don’t think you need it you will. like seals to why’s it leaking oil etc ask them. Fenders. ask them hey it has this many miles what needs to be done to stop oil and coolant leaks. Spare Head gaskets kits. Water pumps. Anything major that’s vital
You need to know the history of "Kungens kurva" it litteraly means "The Kings Curve" relating to when the previous king of Sweden Gustaf V crashed his car there in 1946. Since then the area is called "The Kings Curve"
I think little by little Bruce is realizing how simple American trucks are to repair and how tedious it can be to repair a European truck. But challenges are like that, if they are not difficult, they are not fun.😂👍
On thealu wheels, don't do it as you mentioned, have them mounted that the ones with big bolts are on the Drive or the tag (check the stats on how it should be). Theres probably a good reason for it to be the way it is and it will look better that having both big on one side and the smaller on the other side.

21:30 Scania has a paper that goes inside that, makes it easier to clean, that was cleaned right before you got the truck probably by the looks of it
15:30 - Afaik you don't need to change the power steering filter in these ever, except when you swap some parts in the power steering (and thus the fluid).
Hey Bruce! Make sure you get to drive the awesome Scania SBAT111 on their test track! Amazing old school army offroad machine!
Please post a photo of all three Scanias next to each other!
Koni is a proformance shock I ram them in SCCA racing they make shocks mostly for British and EU cars but I had them on my trans am as well as my GTA
Weld a chain to a pipe. Run the not welded end threw the pipe. place the loop over the filter and turn the chain will binned against the pipe to prevent slipping. I made one to take off oil filters when I was a young lad the pipe was a 1 in. about 3 Ft. long worked grate tossed all of the junk commercial ones in the burning barrel. lol
holy crap that little gocart truck is friggin adorable!
Once took one of those oil spinners off and it was almost solid looked like tar inside but the motor still ran well
There should be 3 bolts on the compressor
i would check the spring pins and bushes . keep them grease because they are a pain in the arse to change .
You can get those repair guns for plastic that melts a filament into the plastic to join 2 Half's back together
The Kings Curve (Kungen kurva) :D
Good to see Aaron! He's come a long way.
When you have a crack in a plastic part it will help to stop the crack from cracking father if you go to just ahead of the crack and drill a hole in the plastic to stop the crack from moving ahead.
21:30 it's a spinner filter centrifugal oil cleaner it's supposed to have a paper filter in it
We used them on the old Detroit engine to clean the carbon out of the oil
Kungens kurva? That literally means "The curve of The King". Being a Finn I don't remember The Swedish history so well but I recommend to ask your hosts about that location. (That is a bit delicate story. A bit like Teddy Kennedy and driving...)
Basically, the Swedish king Gustav the fifth went into the ditch with his Cadillac there back in the 1940:s. Hence, "the kings bend"
@@fhurtig72And one is not supposed to ask about the rumours for the reason. 🤔
The mechanic at a company I used to work at said that the Scania V8s are much better to work on than the I6 engines. Some parts need to be changed quite regularly, but those parts are more often than not quite easy to change.
You can run the 295/75R22.5 on the back, they are the same height but an inch narrower than the factory 315’s.
centrifugal looked fine, hope you can get parts. alot of the old trucks are day or 3 days to find parts for, ussually stock stuff for 2006 and up mostly
hey bruce just wanted to ask does this scania already have a open pipe, if not and you'd put one on make sure you dont make a ton of u shapes in the exhaust it'll sound like bolts in a can/ very raspy, 2-3 maybe 4 bends/u shapes is perfect
Its winter in Sweden bring warm clothes
There is no problem , in running
Front 385/65 R22.5
Drive 315/80 R 22.5
And on the lift aksel .
315/70 R 22.5
Or 315/60 R 22.5
You Can also run 315/70 R22.5 on the drive .
Also on mid lift trucks
315/70 on drive and 355/50 on lift aksel .
@@krone1971 Yeah but what happens when u do asymetrical? different tires on the the same aksel😉
@@Battlenude yes ! That’s a no go .
The oil pan cover, you can melt it back together, instead of using zip ties
The black cover under the Engine is a sound-shield. You can just skip putting it back.
Whohoho Scania!! The reason I got up this morning. Great work Bruce
Your Swedish was very good to be your first time i living in Umea in north Sweden
What I recommend to people wanting to move to Finland is... Instead of Finnish, just learn Swedish instead, it is the 2nd language lol.
I love your videos big fan that truck so cool ❤
You need to know the history of "Kungens kurva" it litteraly means "The Kings Curve" relating to when the previous king of Sweden Gustaf V crashed his car there in 1946. Since then the area is called "The Kings Curve"
It was not the King driving though, it was his chauffeur behind the wheel 👍
Oh yeah I been to Rickman I worked for Usxpress when I went up there it's literally in the middle of BFE 😅
I think little by little Bruce is realizing how simple American trucks are to repair and how tedious it can be to repair a European truck. But challenges are like that, if they are not difficult, they are not fun.😂👍
Need to visit the vegetable market in årsta (Stockholm) at night and look at all the cool trucks from holland that come to unload
Think you need some muddflaps "King of the Road" Scania flaps
Those roll in lifts are the bomb!
On thealu wheels, don't do it as you mentioned, have them mounted that the ones with big bolts are on the Drive or the tag (check the stats on how it should be). Theres probably a good reason for it to be the way it is and it will look better that having both big on one side and the smaller on the other side.
Hope to see this tractor unit hooked up to a american heavy haul lowboy setup.great truck..❤it
