- The Chicago Tribune follows the creation of the highly
anticipated public sculpture "Eye", from Sparta, Wis., where sections of the fiberglass sphere were put together, to downtown Chicago, where the assembly was completed. The 30-foot eyeball, designed by Oak Park artist/sculptor
Tony Tasset, is on display from July 7 to October 31. - Домашні улюбленці та дикі тварини
Fun, unexpected, and business-funded. I live in the neighborhood and this has gotten a lot of very positive attention from crowds and passersby. All hail the giant eyeball!
Its in downtown Dallas now across from the Joule Motel. Went on a daytrip to Dallas with a friend when we stumbled on it. Totally unexpected. I don't think I have ever laughed so hard (in a good way). The eye is definitelh awesome
Thank you for the giant eyeball Tony. I voted for the giant "lady bending over pulling weeds" but as long as the budget is misspent on dollar store conceptual art I won't complain.
out of all the art and creativity out there....AN EYE....really...lol...the all seeing eye!
LOL! The guy with the sunglasses at 0:21 is hilarious!
24 best pic ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It would look good permanently perched atop the Sears Tower. : D
@Epic6060 Tony Tasset, the artist, says in the very beginning, "it's a representation of my eye".
@dkbproductions hellz yea! i was thinkin tht too
another interesting work of art on UA-cam: "Luc Peire's Environment"
i just say this from the train yesterday.
@UnderTheInfluences CPS has a 300 mil budget hole next year. While something like this may cost 30k, there are indirect benefits; it makes the city a culturally interesting place, which makes it a more attractive place for people to live and spend money, etc. Just think -- people were upset Millennium Park was over budget, but now known worldwide as a tourist destination, and has a positive overall financial impact on the city, which results in tourism, jobs and revenue for the city.
@UnderTheInfluences LOL! That is hilarious. Was it funded by the City?
What a horrifying sculpter !
This is all the detail they put into it??
I think it sucks in the Iris area...
It's the Evil Eye's brother!!! LOL
(Evil Eye from SMPfilms) ;)
@dkbproductions Yupp you r right ,check out Forerunner 777 he has info about the all seeing eye on youtube..
Maybe I'm wrong, since I'm not to familiar with Chicago's infrastructure, but I don't really think the "Eye" was funded by tax payer money.
I did a bit of research and found that the sculpture was commissioned by the Chicago Loop Alliance, which looks like a corporate sponsored art/architecture org. aimed to bring tourism into the city.
While I couldn't figure out if they have some public funding, I'm sure that most of the money came from businesses hoping to attract tourism and customers.
@MrMilkaholic It's a peteye. Everybody has one ;)
@BadComrade Best comment ever.
so it wont stay there?
how does this fall into the category of pets and animals
@giannis4 You right peep out the Forerunner 777 he has info about the all seeing eye..
@waltermellin Although I suppose you could argue that tax money did go indirectly into the project (e.g. closing off the roads, providing space) but it shouldn't be anything that substantial to which you could use it for something else in the public sector at anyrate :-P
It's an Icon not and Eyesore! Ha !
That's a good one Tony!
In conceptual art the bullshit is always better than the art!
today is the 7th it so big i want to poke or have a stareing contest with it
lol built in Sparta Wisconsin! xD
The eye. Ah hello! The time is running out people. Pay attention to the signs.
Oh my god that's so creepy! It's watching me yaaaa!
I don't see why they felt the need to sculpt this...
Very strange..
A big eye ball, weird.
i just want to ram a truck into it and roll it down chi town
@LUCKIEONASIS While you made me laugh, I must say that denying the existence of the illuminati or similar is just plain ignorant.
It's Hideous!
@JoanIsNotTheMaid Once again, I find it very difficult to believe that you STILL do not comprehend the BASICS of what we are talking about. When I made my initial comment, I did NOT (I REPEAT: NOT) mean it in a serious tone. Now that we have that established (for the INFINITE time), let's move on. Since I did not mean the comment seriously, you should not have responded with such a acrimonious tone, seeing as the comment was SARCASTIC. I say that assuming you DO KNOW the definition of sarcasm.
It's another way for the government to watch you.
It doesnt even look that real....
