- The Jacksonville State University Marching Southerners perform as exhibition band at the Bands of American Regional competition in Atlanta, GA. The show consists of music from Stravinsky's "Firebird", "Big Noise from Winnetka", "Nessun Dorma" (from "Turandot"), and "Malaga". This show is also among the best of the "early Bodiford era" at JSU.
That's some REAL music!!
Our son and future daughter-in-law marched in this show. One of the BOA judges remarked, "Where has this band been?"
I can not wait to conduct '98 Firebird for my audition. It's such an epic piece.
This was the first show I ever saw of the southerners. Made me come back to march for them once i graduated high school. Best time of my life!

Both of my parents met in the southerners and were in this show together. His amazes me. My dad is playing cymbals (tallest one) and my mother is in the flute section.

Trombone, 98, 99, 00. I think I actually was playing baritone this year though. I miss it so freaking bad, still gives me chills. Malaga, firebird, Ami Sobuelos Barcelona....weatherly hall (isn't that what the band dorms were called?), doesnt exist any more. Phi Mu Alpha parties, oh yes!

One of my favorite shows. Very great. The Mercedes Benz tech is my neighbor. Just got my new jsu flag to fly on my estate. Need a southerners too. No.matter how things change, we are still the best. 💝

This by far is one of the best shows the southerners have done ever. Can't wait til the 2012 marching season!

Wow, in my day (Zenobia King Hill) Ballerinas would have been polishing boots for lack of precision! Band sounds great, but so much going on...girls in long dresses with rifles? Others with flags?
