They simply were THE best!! Those tight horns and vocals, Phil's great falsetto vocals. Live they were just as perfect as their recordings (I was lucky enough to see them in OMAHA of all places!), and there are VERY few bands you can say that about!!!!!! As a musician myself, probably one of the greatest things that set this band apart from ANY other is the unusual key changes and chord progressions in their music. Nothing standard, not the same old chord progressions you hear in just about every other artist's songs. Heck at high school in 1976 our music teacher even had us analyze their music, identifying the key changes, the unusual chord progressions and the vocal harmonies, and he was a devoted classical music teacher! This was a super group before there were really any supergroups, and here, in 2024, their music STILL sounds as fresh and innovative as it was 50 years ago! That just goes to enforce how much sheer genius and talent these guys had. NOBODY now, or dare I say, in the future can ever be as musically unique as EWF!

Watching this decades later. Goes without saying this band is second to none. But the unspoken hero’s of this performance is the sound engineers. This was mixed to perfection!
Verdine was talking the other day how they still do a sound check every time before every concert. He also said that they can still improve on some things. These guys are so dedicated. Best Band EVER!!

Maurice White is and was the originator and leader of this group and will be the greatest musician and lyricist of their songs. He just seemed to know what words fit best to the music to prove himself to be a poet. Who can top the falsetto voice of Phillip Bailey except the guy with the Stylistics while Maurice had a great voice too. Together Phillip and Maurice were one of the greatest duos of our time. Their music is timeless and will forever be played by us; our children; and their children until we meet Jesus!!! I bet GOD was listening when they played here and has Maurice singing to Him sometimes waiting on the rest of the group to join him for a concert for GOD; lol!!!
Dang, when Gary Byas, EWF's sax player serenades "Julie" while she sits on the stool with Gary on one side, Phil Bailey on the other; I'm a jazz sax player myself and Byas KILLED it! WOW! THAT is how you play jazz sax; Kenny G, eat your heart out!

I had the privilege of spending time with Mr. "MO" White at The Sony Music Studio in Santa Monica CA. back in the early 90's assisting Mr. White on behalf of Sony/Columbia Records. Mr. "MO" White assisted I call him "MO" handed Me The DAT Tape of The Greatest Cobollation Album in 1992 to Secure It then give it to the Currier when he arrived and was cleared by the security. I'm a child of the 60's and the 70's now I've been Guitar for over forty plus years and I have MO White and Every Member of EWF to Thank for it.

I went and saw them at McNichols arena in Denver 1982.
