- So what's up with Skate 4? It's been a while since I've heard anything about Skate 4, so I wanted to dive in myself and see what I've missed. So far, we haven't got any updates in the new year yet, but I have a feeling we'll be hearing more soon based on the timeline of their past updates. Obviously I'm super excited, but what are your thoughts about the progression of Skate 4?

I think the problem with them is that they announced it too early.
The announcement was so early because they are working with the community and letting people test play it.

Yo Garrett, I got a few things to remind you:
- BMX Streets is coming out April 5th, I don't know if you'd be interested, I believe it was previously "Pipe BMX", if you remember that.
- There's a new crazy swamp map in SXL that came out on Milky's new video, it's really cool and unique.
- There's a way to play Session in VR, it combines 2 mods, Milky has a video on that if you need it.
- I DMed you on discord with a link to a bunch of old hard to get SXL maps, I highly recommend you take a look on there cuz there's some neat stuff.
- Unrelated but would love to see some Skate 3 content, I think you don't post a lot about it because there's not that much content on it, it freaking sucks that the community parks are down, those are a vibe 😢.

Pipe BMX was a tech demo demonstrating the physics that was going to be in bmx streets At a very bare bones level.
Its not called skate 4 because they don't wanna ruin the reputation to the skate series, which they will.
By calling it Skate its ruining the rep of the first game.

Random aside: It's still strange to see Cuz on these videos because I had skateboarded with him for like a decade at Bonsor. He was there on one of the first Saturdays I ever visited when I was just learning to skate. The ENTIRE TIME I had no clue he ever worked on Skate, the early Skate 4 videos were the first time I saw him on video. Blows my mind lol.

I used to play skate 2 and 3 with him and the Hoodlum squad in the hay days of their releases. He was always very chill and honest about everything. I remember talking to him and him being hella bummed out when they got rid of the original skate developer squad, after that day the series slowly died out.

Why not just have an option to change the control scheme in the settings. The only answer I can think of is just not wanting to put the time in to do it so laziness essentially?
Ita the same reason session removed the skate flick it control style. It isnt worth doing when the core audience wants only one control style

Because adding flick to both sticks means you have to move turning to another spot on the controller, like the triggers, but then you have to move grabs elsewhere. Skate already uses all its real estate on the controller so adding one optional control scheme means reworking everything just for that one stick. Definitely not laziness.
I think for the core audience.. deep in our hearts.. we know its skate 4 because thats what weve all wanted HOWEVER, it will become a fun little inside joke when anyone refers to it as Skate. Sort of like the younger generation wearing Nirvana tees or Thrasher hoodies but couldnt name a single song or skater outside of Metallica or Ryan Sheckler.

Look, i just wanna see whats been done before. Like, skate 2 was a massive update to ea skate. Just like 3 was a massive update to skate 2. I wanna see that massive update from skate 3 to Skate. or Skate 4... whatever haha. Right!? A new playground, some new skaters, some new tricks, more cool apparel. Just like the previous installments. Please, take all the time you can folks.

I’d disagree that Skate 3 was a big step over Skate 2. It added darkslides and underflips and improved the off board controls and that’s about it. Visually it’s a massive down grade.
Saying take your time is 1 thing, but to put it into perspective, from the Skate announcement to present day, has been longer than the duration of all 3 previous Skate games releasing... 4 years for pre alpha is concerning.

@baggypop7536 wouldn't have a clue, i would imagine maybe 2 years since it released in 07, xbox 360 released in 05 so between 1 and 2 years.
If I had played the play test I wouldn’t be allowed to say I had… but if I had - which I haven’t… but if I had, I’d say it’s very disappointing how little progress has been made in what, 5 years since they announced this? Still feels so early that it shouldn’t even be in playtesting. I’d be keeping expectations very low.
So if you did play it, which you didn’t, it would’ve been weak

I think what people are getting now is older builds of the game. I believe we are a lot closer to release than what some think.
@@icyd1amond It's obviously further ahead than what's in the playtests, but it seems pretty pointless to have a playtest (especially one that's so barebones) if they're that much further ahead than what people are actually playing.
Playtest was below mid, game is gonna be monetized heavy.

I’m worried about it being crossplay w/ phones and shit. If that ends up limiting the scope of the game on other platforms, then I think that’s a negative.
Other dimensions are achievable by opening ur 3rd eye and having a kundalini release👁🧠 I've done this with dmt shrooms lsd, ayahuasca also achieves these mindstates it's called the Astral realm it's like a near death experience🍄◽️✨️🌿 u get to see the otherside
Idk if it's just me but at this point I really don't care about the game anymore. I will get once it releases but being announced so early on in developement, the hype has only died down for me over the years.
they don't have to scrap the flick-it system in place of left foot right foot controls. them not adding the session/skater xl controls as an option for those who prefer it is a major miss. There's no reason why they shouldn't, it would only bring more people in
well people who want dual stick is literally 1% of the player base. Its just a waste of time for them to put a lot of work into doing that when they could spend that time working on something more important for everyone
EA are axing studios left, right and centre, so wouldn’t be surprised if this gets cancelled tbh.
Their progression has been great and how they interacted and listened to the community feedback. No idea what the monetization will bring but I have a very positive impression of the team that works on the game as well!
in the playtests, iOS and pc. It’s monetization land you want those cool pants yeah do a bunch of crap for him and hope that they’re in the rotation of the store etc
My hope for the stick system is just like my thought for the new Dragon Ball game releasing, I hope they give multiple control options for these exact instances where people won't have to "dislike" an entire feature because it was/wasn't like X game, like make it a selection option, you select Flick it, and you only play with Flick It players on 1 stick, and for those hardcore players you can use 2 sticks like XL or Session while still just playing with people on the same control scheme, so it wouldn't affect any PvP gamemodes like SKATE or Point challenges, then you also won't have returning Skate players (but not sim/actual skaters) who find the controls too confusing or difficult to sit down and enjoy, but still have those who jump between games because they don't all have the same feels for the different "styles" of skating, I personally use Session for a bit more satisfying realistic trick style stuff, but use SkaterXL for the more fun bits like sending a 900 flip down a stair set, while still going back to Skate 2/3 for that ultimate arcade & simplicity feel.
But it isn't skate 4 imo. They know what they're doing, and are likely not implementing a story mode and going more towards multiplayer like lots of games. I mean battlefield 2042 is basically that and isn't "battlefield 6". It wouldn't be comparable to the masterpieces that were the first 3 games and wouldn't be right to call it skate 4. Idk tho im just some random guy. I just work here
That's good I don't like Paul sticks I loved the flick control playing skater xl challenging I can't move with R2 or L2 😅 just can't line up right and it makes me more mad then regular skateboarding 😅
If they don’t adapt to the right foot left foot this will decrease the people who will play. They are making this game for children at that point. Not their core Skate community, considering we are all adults now. Session has taken over the Skateboarding game as the best skate video game. Realistic feel to what Skateboard is should be the drive for this new game. It’s like they are going backwards with this game with no innovation at all after all these years of us begging for a new game. It’s gonna be a disappointment and I’m honestly not gonna waste my time or money buying the game. Especially if they aren’t even gonna out do Skate 2, which is the best one out of the series right now. Creating a video game that’s sports related should be about realism. Games like this turn Skateboarding to a joke and doesn’t showcase what Skateboarding is.

So im older to the point where i have been around i really hope they dont rush the game because ever since a few n64 games ive been adiment about people taking their time on the game. The perfect example is the last 2 r 3 tony hawks they were jus shoving that trash out every 12 months and the trash gameplay really showed out the trash espically by 5 so im fine with waiting as long as needed to get a dev polished game insted of a company wide shuved out half game
I get games are harder and take longer to make nowadays, and like the fact they are taking their time to make it the best it can be, but 4 years to still be in pre alpha is a little concerning. I like the gameplay so far, progress is decent it's just so damn SLOW, especially everytime they playtest or show off something to do with the game it's only minor progress and nothing insane. Plus concerns for EA's microtransaction influence but that's another tangent. If this long break from communication has a good outcome and the next time we see Skate it's in beta or something then fine, otherwise it's daunting to see the silence.

Idk. I think the left foot, right foot is easier. I didn't have to look up how to do tricks on session like I did on skate. I went back to skate 3 and it was kinda difficult compared to session.

I personally have not played the pre pre pre alpha version of Skate "." but from what I have seen from others playing it I recognize some of the skate parks from the old games in the pre alpha. Do you think they will bring back any of those old places from past Skate games in the new Skate or are those just place holders because they don't wanna spoil what the brand new San Vansterdam world looks like?
If nothing else, I hope they keep the entire community center from the first Skate. Or at least have it as a dlc

I don’t want my personal favorite control system ever in a skate game to change… like theres a reason i don’t play session or skater XL. I think the devs know that it’s a unique style, and a lot of people including myself prefer it over anything.
I used to play Tony Hawk PS4 as a kid and that arcade feeling as well as just straight up goofiness made it great. Not my favorite controls, but you could unlock jango fett and jetpack on a skateboard like come on.
Skate 3 just took the arcade and semi realistic balancing approach

My problem is that the physics just are off, and they never seem to improve. I get its a work in progress but they dont seem to change the wierd glitches or physics, how youre constantly randomly kicked off in the middle of a grind for no reason. Aall they seem to do is add new things to do. EA, make the skating good first, then add other things after the skating is good

Somthing avout skinny and normal fit jeens while skateboarding just does not feel right to look at. Its like watching some one do the shuffle with skinny jeens or watching a samurai fo his art with skinny jeens. Something about it just feels wrong. Like the smaller pads in modern football the hits seem less solid when they arnt wearing those huge pads they used to in the 90s.
To have baggy pants in skateboarding just feels right. Its a core part of street skating.

8:59 valid point, taking out the skate 3 controls entirely would make it a different game. but what about adding the option to switch your controls (pretty sure you can switch controls in session). i dont see it being extremely difficult for a big developer, especially if creature studios got it. idk i just personally feel like they said theyd listen to the comments and from the comments i saw, people WANT the left foot/right foot. and if they dont want to completely remove the skate 3 controls its fine, but they (imo) should add the option to have left foot/right foot controls. lmk what you think

I’m all for them taking their time. In my opinion the issue is that they announced this years ago and they update us with no progress shown since the announcement. I feel like if they continue this way people will get tired of waiting and the hype for the game will be gone. They need to show a MAJOR update asap.

I swear no one is. I only played the leaked play test early on and have signed up so many times. Never got any access. All my friends and I who grew up with skate have signed up and none of us have gotten in

I don't care, if there are difficulty settings ( beginner, intermediate, pro , expert I WANT A FINAL "SIM" OPTION THAT INCLUDES DUAL STICK! WHY IS THAT SO HARD!??
The problem with dual stick on skate is now turning replaces grabs and messes up the other controls for the game. You have to remember they have all that parkour stuff and a bunch of other stuff that session and xl don't have.
Well I'm no game developer but I'm pretty sure it would be quite hard to implement both controls into the game

I was waiting for a realistic skate game on PC and was tracking Skate 4 dev progress. Then I discovered Session, fell in love and now I have a strong feeling that EA will not be able to make a better game, especially for realistic skateboarding.
Skate series has never been realistic, its been fun based, not sim based because theyre going for a wider audience rather than core skaters trying to play sims
@@joeschmoe5009 Skate has always been a "realistic" series, just not a simulator by todays standards. You gotta think back to 2007, Skate was made and marketed as a "realistic" alternative and competitor to the Tony Hawk games, for the Xbox 360 hardware Skate was pretty realistic for the time. Skate 1 and 2 catered towards the Skateboarding scene but Skate 3 was the one that stretched the audience. This new Skate. is continuing to stretch that barrier.
