    Crazy the amount of information thats gets assimilated when your into this same area of your build. Great golden information

    Nice one Matt. I can think of an additional reason why it would help to have extra belt tension with a 7A build- with the block being 15mm taller there is a longer distance between the tension pulley and the cam pulley on the head. This would allow for more belt movement. With the shape of the teeth on the earlier pumps I don't know if it's that the teeth catch on each other, rather the sharp corners are bad stress raisers. That's why it's not uncommon to see cracks forming in the teeth corners before a failure. One big issue with any fatigue related failures is that they develop over time and thus are highly unpredictable on when they let go.

    Definitely a very good piece of info either on this particular video and on the whole channel!
    One thing you could do is to list the OEM Part Numbers in the description.
    Keep it up!

    I'd like to know more about these oil pump swap options.
    My intention is to use a better pump as per the part number in the video description, in my standard 7afe, which although I drive quietly most of the time, does get an occasional caning, and I feel another turbo conversion coming on.

    The part number provided #15103-16030 is for the oil pump gear set only. Would you share the part number for the appropriate pump assembly. I believe it would be 15100-? Thank you

    I might have missed it somewhere mate and I’m sure you’ve nailed it and I am sorry but I need you’re advice…..I’ve got an ae71 and want to do a 4age conversion not sure what’s the best way to go 16v or 20v please point me in the right direction.

    • @NEVER-LIFT
      @NEVER-LIFT  2 роки тому +1

      I don't think we've made it totally clear which engine is best in the videos but my answer would be that I like the 16v Smallport, I wont go too deep as to why but if you're gonna build it into a performance engine I think its best
      On the other hand if you plan to keep the engine stock standard or close to it I'd go for a Blacktop 20v
      There's so many factors to consider so it's hard to give you a straight answer, the biggest factor is gonna be your budget

    what tricks should i use when building my 7a 20v?

    • @NEVER-LIFT
      @NEVER-LIFT  3 роки тому +1

      SimonTrent8000 we did a build series on my 7a that’s full of tricks and tips but the main tip that stands out to me is to add an external head drain at the rear of the head Mat explained this in part 4👍

      Port the oil pump outlet to match the oil inlet in the 7A block. It was shown briefly in one of the earlier videos

    • @NEVER-LIFT
      @NEVER-LIFT  3 роки тому

      SimonTrent8000 also be sure to port match your pump and block

    Hi, if i change to the silvertop oilpump on my blacktop, can i just change the tensioners over to the bearing and spring as mentioned? Or will there be other challenges involved? Not much advice available for these engines in my country unless u got money to spend.

    • @NEVER-LIFT
      @NEVER-LIFT  3 роки тому

      Neil I’ve never done it personally but I don’t see there being any problems as the bearing is mounted to the pump.
      If you don’t have a post for the spring in your block you can use a screwdriver to set the tension like Mat explained and probably get it a little tighter.
      I’ll double check with Mat next time I talk to him too

  • @Eddieallenmeek

    Hi guys, What do you think about adding a aftermarket spring and washer to the oil pump for more oil pressure? I have done this to my 16v and oil pressure is good but am wondering whether its too high. I am getting 90-100psi on start up.

    • @NEVER-LIFT
      @NEVER-LIFT  3 роки тому

      I did speak to Mat about this and such high pressure on startup is concerning but he did mention that he would need some more info because there’s so many variables.
      Things like what oil your running and what the pressure is like once the oil is up to temp

    • @Eddieallenmeek
      @Eddieallenmeek 3 роки тому +1

      @@NEVER-LIFT Thanks for the reply. I have been running 10w/40 new engine, once the engine is warmed up it drops back to 30-40psi at idle. I have put a bigger sump on to compensate for oil loss. After 600ks I have developed a knocking sound, sounds like the old cortina flat spot on camshafts. I changed the cams to standard type and the sound has changed but still there at idle. When you rev the car up sound goes. The weird part is on first start up there is no sound but once it starts to warm up it develops the sound. I had thought it may be oil pump? It’s a weird one have anyone come across this? I really like the vids they have been really handy.

    • @NEVER-LIFT
      @NEVER-LIFT  3 роки тому

      @@Eddieallenmeek I spoke to Mat and he was starting to stress a bit especially when he heard there was a sound.
      4age cams will make a sound especially if not clearanced correctly.
      I’d say your best bet would be to take it to someone with more experience as it’s hard to diagnose an issue through message.
      Sorry I couldn’t be more help

    Is blacktop 20v interference or non interference engine?

    • @OutlawIG
      @OutlawIG 3 місяці тому +1

      Blacktop is interference due to a slightly higher bump in compression ratio, silvertop is non-interference however.

      I am fairly sure it's the second generation as the later 16V and the Silvertop pumps have the same part number.

    • @farmersalex6091
      @farmersalex6091 3 роки тому

      But the second gen oil pump gear is thinner than the third Gen, isn't it? I mean the 3 gen is the best pump. "Rounded gear teeth" and thicker gear...

    • @Samqdf
      @Samqdf 3 роки тому

      @@farmersalex6091 No, the updated 16V pump and the 20V pumps all have the same part number (15103-16030) for the gearset which has a 9.5mm width. A later model sinusoidal shaped gearset with the narrower width does however exist- I have seen it on a 7afe and I think I can safely assume that the 4afe is much the same.
