Whatever Happened to Miss Kitty, Amanda Blake from 'Gunsmoke'?

- There are a few iconic TV characters from my childhood. The Cartwrights on Bonanza. The Clampett clan on The Beverly Hillbillies. Captain Kangaroo. Captain 11.
And the folks in Dodge. Gunsmoke ran forever, or at least from the time I was knee high to a grasshopper until the time I thought I was too old to like it anymore (but I still did).
Chester, Festus, Doc, and of course Kitty, the owner of the Longbranch (where Sam bartended), where the boys would gather for a cold one after a long day of keeping the town safe and patching up a few gunshot wounds here and there.

All these actors from days gone by were awesome. They certainly don't make TV programs like they use to.
Gunsmoke the best western ever, longest playing one too. Best actors thats why.
💯
Was gunsmok based on real life experences
She is the reason I always loved older ladies. So beautiful.......!
Amanda Blake was absolutely stunningly beautiful lady
Gunsmoke was the best western on t.v. Never missed an episode!! James Arness, Amanda Blake, Dennis Weaver, Ken Curtis, all of the stars that were in Gunsmoke were big stars or on their way to be big stars!
I always used to wonder where Miss Kitty found a hairdresser in the middle of 1870s Dodge City to keep up that henna red beehive.
Mar Thivierge - her hair was beautiful, even the ancient Egyptians had hair color, not just black either - ms Kitty was a natural redhead - read up before making assumptions ms Mar
Amanda Blake Gilbert was on the board of directors of a company that I worked. I had the pleasure of meeting her several times whenever a board meeting occurred. I first met her one day after holding the elevator for her to go up. She apologized profusely and thanked me. I was supposed to get off on the second floor as I had business there, but ended staying on that elevator to the fourth floor after talking with her. A most charming and warm individual she was. Somehow, over the years, we bump into one another and rekindle that one first meeting. I was saddened to learn later on that she had passed away, however, I'll always remember fondly of how much a beautiful individual she was, both outside and in. RIP
Great for you to share story!
love that. So sorry she died like that.
James Fox - a wonderful memory❤️❤️ I’ve been watching the short clips of ms kitty & Marshall Dillion here on YT, I just enjoy them so much, Gunsmoke best western series there ever was, I watch the reruns all the time
A beautiful classy and sassy lady
I've been watching Amanda Blake for years and I've been really impressed with her she's fun to watch....
I never missed Gunsmoke!! Thinking of it now brings my memory back to the old joke that everyone knew that were Gunsmoke addicted. That old joke was:
Festus: Hey Matt, you better get your ass over to Miss Kitty's!
Matt: well, Festus, now you know that's where I always get it !
Short, but humorous. That show was always good, sometimes excellent, and the cast truly cared about each other, you could see their friendship was real.
Most of the cast has pasted away now, but there will only be that one Gunsmoke forever. As long as there are reruns, and Gunsmoke fans, the cast will live on forevermore.
That’s one of the reasons I watch the series . That’s a dream of an American woman
Thumbs up for her, 👍🏻👍🏻👸🏻
She will always be missed !
She was a beautiful lady!#Resteasymisskitty
During the 50s Amanda Blake was one of the most naturally beautiful women on TV.
Did Amanda Blake have an affair with jim arness
Did Amanda Blake have a chield
Did Amanda Blake have a child
Ms.Kitty Russel,thanks for the ride.
Gunsmoke was over in 1975. She said she left after 19 yrs cuz of something. It started in 55 .I am a lady 73. and as. little girl listened to it on the radio first. thanks
Glenn Strange (Long Branch bartender Sam Noonan) died when the 1973-74 season episodes were filming. Apparently Glenn was well loved on the set. Children particularly gravitated toward him. Amanda Blake said that she could no longer play her role without Glenn around.
We love Amada blake great personality for her character I so loved fester he was great Miss Kitty always outsmarted them
Remember these? Heck, when I was laid up for a couple of weeks, I OD'd on them on MeTV - Rifleman, Have Gun Will Travel, Gunsmoke, Wagon Train, Wanted D or A, Bonanza, The Big Valley... blissful nostalgia, and a lot of it darn good stuff too.
(...and if Blake Lively married Amanda Blake, she'd be Blake Blake, hah hah)
dayceem - loved all of these magnificent shows, now I watch reruns - today’s shows are terrible
Gunsmoke was my favourite TV western. And, until I got married at age 22, I had a real crush on Miss Kitty.
Amanda Blake was so good on Gunsmoke. She will never be forgotten as Matt Dillon's true love. She was so beautiful.
Correction: CBS Gunsmoke Show last from 1955 to 1975, Actress Amanda Blake who portrays Miss. Kitty on the CBS show Gunsmoke from 1955 until 1974 and in then 1975 CBS Network cancelled the show after 20 years due to the removal of Rural/Western Shows to add urban contemporary comedy shows like All In The Family/Maude/The Jeffersons/Mary Tyler Moore Show/Rhoda/Phyllis/Good Times/The Bob Newhart Show.
One english teacher of mine...was also KITTY...She was from Canada when her signature was needed she signed as KATHLEEN....and in Menorca ,,,where I live and where she also lived she was known as "la señora CATALINA".....Mrs CATALINA...
God Bless her. I loved Kitty
coporal4 lovely xx
My family, mom, dad my sisters and I Uncle gram watched it. and all the westerns. I liked Who. Train an all them . We loved miss Kitty.
Not caring how she died, remembering how she lived. Caring for animals, generous and her tv character of a strong, independent business owner may inspired other women. After all the show was on during the women's liberation movement. No, I don't believe Amanda Blake gets enough credit for her contribution to modern American culture. Especially for women. How she died is unimportant to me compared to how she lived.
Festus got hit on his head so many times its no wonder he couldn't talk right.
But you should hear him sing. He is great. Sang with the Sons of Pioneers
The person who made this video or posted it. Gunsmoke ended in 1975, not in 1974 -- but Amanda Blake did leave the series in 1974 after 19 of the 20 seasons that it aired.
WHO DIDNT LIKE MISS KITTY ?
Yes
Totally agree with that last comment👌🤠
Let's get it straight: Amanda was super hot. Even as a kid, I couldn't figure out why Matt didn't seal the deal with her. She was molten, and when color TV came in and we saw what color lipstick Miss Kitty wore, we were all silent. But as it turned out, her actual story was much more complicated, as she became one more Hollywood actress who married a gay man who had AIDS stories punchline.
Did she die of aids or is that just a rumour
Linda Day It was AIDS. Her husband was bisexual and gave it to her. I remember seeing her HIV positive results printed in the Enquirer. She found out when she went to get a physical necessary to travel (somewhere in Africa, I believe).
Loved her.
John Johnston n
I got it right!! I did know Miss Kitty's last name.
classic country yes, new country Hell no! Gunsmoke...the best!!
She ran the saloon and the uh meow house upstairs.
They didn't drink cold beer in the 19th century.
exactly... I was going to point that out.
Just a gorgeous woman.
I remember Amanda Blake very well. But the series was still going strong when this other lady whom I can't recall her name took over the Long Branch Saloon. But according to this guy who I don't know, said Miss Kitty was on the show until it was cancelled. Not sure if I agree with him but am open to what anyone can update me on
She was Miss Kitty for longer than that.. forgetting the movies?
Some bad "facts" here.
Whatever Happened to Miss Kitty, Amanda Blake from 'Gunsmoke'? She died . Something we all have to look forward too .
Everybody from Gunsmoke except “Newly” is dead. That’s what happened to them.
Wasn't Burt Reynolds on Gunsmoke it it's early years, he isn't dead yet is he. Wasn't Newly played by Dub or Art Taylor.
William Mawk ....BUCK TAYLOR played Newly
Burt Reynolds character is Quince. And he is still around thankfully.
I believe Burt's character was Quint Asper, a half- breed blacksmith
Larry Harris - I’m so sad they’re all gone😢😢😢
Beautiful woman 👩
She smoked 2 packs a day. She was only 26 in 1955, first season. She looked like 36.
There is some question as to her MOLE. It wasn't there in the beginning , but soon showed up.SO THERE YOU GO... MOLA-MOLA
what movies has ms.kitty been in other than gunsmoke ( rest in peace)
i
Amanda was in, duchess of Idaho, stars in my crown, counterspy meets Scotland Yard, sunny side of the street, smugglers gold, scarlet angel, cattle town, lili, the adventures of haji baba, about Mrs.leslie, a star is born, the glass slipper, high society, diamonds for breakfast, betrayal, gunsmoke return to dodge, the boost, and B.O.R.N
you are a true western fan thank you
Russell?? I thought Miss Kity's last name was Lytre.
Miss Kitty was a Madam, and that is probably why the Producers would never allow Matt Dillon to kiss her. Their relationship could never get beyond the friend status because of her profession.
Yes wagon train
you are WRONG she did not play the whole series there was another woman, took over the long branch,in the last few seasons.i cannot remember her name ,but she had a part in the movie PALE RIDER with clint eastwood ,she played the wife of the owner of the general store.
yuuup....
Miss Kitty couldn't return for the final season because she needed to devote more of her time to her duties as owner and manager of the Long Branch.
Question. Why did Miss Kitty not finish the last season?
Miss Kitty died from A.I.D.S.
not loren , lorne !
Hottest pioneer woman is how we remember Ms Kitty..Lets drink to her.
👍
There used to be a strip club near my childhood home called Miss Kitty's :3
What ever happened to .... doing a little research before posting a video with incorrect information?
One small detail you got wrong-the series ended around the early 80's.
Wow - her husband of one year gave her HIV/Aids of which she died in 1989 (he in 1985) !
Mmm
I was told it was on the air for 25 years 1955-1975.
Ms kitty died from complications from having HIV that she got from her bi-sexual husband.she didn’t know he had aids until it was to late
Kitty, see you in the Native American flute room. There will be a hot conversation there most of the time.
Chain smoker. Catches up eventually.
,
Too bad the mic in front of your cadaver-like face wasn't the "live" mic. And,. the star of "Bonanza" was (toupee-wearing Canadian) LORNE Greene ... not "Loren".
Her husband fooled around on her! He gave her aids.
yea he was bisexual, and died at 45.
It was later widely reported in the popular media that Blake's doctor claimed that she had actually died of AIDS However, no results of an HIV test for Blake was produced.
Judge Smails. What a. Shame!!!!!:'(
Festus was a hell of alot better than Chester....
They each brought something special to the show.
Wrong
Ed McNutt ......chester good
Yes
...Festus ....tops
Regina Martin right! Festus was amazing!! Great actor, for sure..
Everybody from Gunsmoke except Burt Reynolds and Buck Taylor (Newly) is dead.
Miss kitty had aides and hepitistes
Fukking fossil.
The great mystery of Gunsmoke to me was what Marshall Dillon saw in Miss Kitty? To me she looked like a heavy duty Tammy Fae Baker.
