    Great video of this amp! I own a head version myself. Bought it for a steal about a year ago (NOS with warranty!). It's my main amp besides and together with a Komet 60, which means something as the Komet is also a beast of an amp. You said it was not made for its clean sounds and I would agree with you here. However, what you did not showcase in your video is, that the Machete is able to get very very good clean cleansounds and has lots of headroom. The only drawback is that the gain boost will then also create quite a big volume boost. But it is no problem to e.g. play John Mayer tunes with this amp and it does quite a good job there.
    About 3 months ago I did a little test on how close I could get my Machete to the Fuchs ODS of my bandmate. While the cleans of the Fuchs were slightly warmer sounding and therefore a tad better in my opinion, the lead sounds were much better on the Machete as the added warmth of the Fuchs created a little bit of buzz here, which the Machete did not have. Mind you, the amps were set to be extremely similar, nonetheless.
    Long story short: Grab it if you see one! :)

    Great amp Taylor and you did a great job on the demo! I got mine in January of 2012. It's still my favorite amp. Here's a cool trick if you don't know it already. If you're not using the effects loop you can run a jumper cable to the send and return to add an additional boost globally that can be turned on or off with the Effects Loop button on your Machete pedal. I use it primarily to boost channel 2 when playing from rhythm to lead. May I also mention that the Machete takes pedals very well through the front of the amp as you would expect from a Fender which is why I found no need to use the Effects Loop. BTW, a Machete 1X12 speaker enclosure makes a huge improvement with the Machete 1X12 combo. Fender made Machete 4X12"s & 2X12 cabinets as well. All Machete cabinets came loaded with Celestion Vintage 30's. The cabinets are even more rare then the amps... Good Luck on finding a Machete Head! I've been hunting for one for a while...

    Great review mate. I stumbled on these 12mths ago, quite possibly the best amp i've ever owned. Lucky 50w head owner ;-) . I love the MIDI functionality as well, perfect with the Fractal AX8.

    Hey Taylor, I have also a Machete Combo, and I am so happy about this Amp! It's my main Amp and it's so versatile, I use it from clean settings for Soul/Funk up to heavy distorted sounds for Metal. Lucky I could get one! Fully agree to your demo! Cheers, Harald

    Hey Taylor. That Machete is a great amp. Thanks for sharing. Glad you were able to get it. It will be better than a 401k in a few years. I know Rob Chapman of Chapman guitars is a big fan of that amp. I wish Fender would put them in the ToneMaster line. Taylor your playing is great. I really like the tones you get. I get out to your part of the world every now and then. I have a guitar or two you might want to check out and demo. Thanks for what you do. I really enjoy it.

    Fender needs to reissue this amp. It has been my dream amp ever since I played it in 2013. I could not afford it at the time, and I sure as hell cannot afford one now thanks to their price and rarity increasing. I don't really understand why they discontinued it. It sounds killer and super glassy and transparent

    Hello Taylor, great review. I recently came into possession of one of these amps and it has shocked me with just how good it is. Did you record this demo straight from the line out on the back? If so then what was your signal path? Either way it sounds fantastic with some lovely tasteful playing. Great video!

      Hey congrats on the amp! It's been a while since I recorded this video. I wanna say it was from the line out and using a cab Sim from Two Notes

      @brazilianmegaman258 very possible it was the Two Notes torpedo live. Probably would've been using a 212 greenback cab

    Great video man! I bought a Machete combo in 2014 at a Guitar Center Clearance store for $450. Prior to the Machete my favorite amp was a Mesa Reco-Verb, but the Machete blows it out of the water! I'm curious how you recorded this....was it via the XLR out with Cab Sim? That's one of the best features of this amp IMO. Killer chops btw, keep up the great work!

      @@TaylorSchlupp Cool, thanks for the info. Yeah man, it was originally marked at $800...then $700....then $575, it just wasn't moving. The clerk said if I signed up for a GC credit card he'd hook me up even more. Normally I don't buy on credit, but I couldn't pass it up. I would have paid the $800 tbh, it's worth that and more. Went home and paid off the card the same day lol.

      @@TaylorSchlupp From what I understand it wasn't selling for a few reasons. 1) Marketing. The Fender demos at the time were pretty poor and they weren't reaching out to the Metal community like they should have. 2) Price. Even though I do think it's "worth" $2k, considering what other amp makers ask, it was priced way too high for a new line from a company not already notorious for making high gain amps. Fender traditionalists were not interested in a high gain option, probably wrote off the clean channel altogether, and Metalheads didn't think to look to Fender. 3) Aesthetics. I happen to love the "muscle car" theme going on, but a lot of people seem to think it's ugly. That's ok though....these problems led to us getting killer deals on one of the best amps. ;)

    There isn't a whole lot of easily found info on this amp. I have owned one since 2016. I got mine for 1000 bucks. They have dropped in value significantly since then last I checked. I think one day they will be worth some money. We gotta hope John Mayer or someone like that discovers the machete and the price will sky rocket.
    There was a early model that had notch labeled as tone. There is a premier guitar video that has that version.
    It's beastly amp. It's built like a tank. Great playing man.
    Where do you like the notch on the clean channel and dirty channel respectively?

    • @TaylorSchlupp
      @TaylorSchlupp  4 роки тому +1

      I have to disagree with the value statement. The last time I checked (probably 2 months ago) the asking price was significantly higher than before. Somewhere around $2000. Now, who knows what the actually sold for, but they are marketed as "rare" on the used gear sites. I do agree with you that they'll continue to increase in value. The coolest thing would be if Fender decided to remake them but do a hand-wired version this time. I've actually emailed them about the amp though and they unfortunately have no plans to reintroduce the Machete.
      As far as the notch, I keep mine set at about 11 o'clock so just slightly to the left.

    • @guyfromnj
      @guyfromnj 4 роки тому

      Taylor Schlupp Music I haven't looked at prices in well over a year. I had seen a couple on reverb at that time and one guy was asking for 750. And another had sold for 600. They may have been desperation sales and someone really made out like a bandit. When they came out they were pretty pricey. I saw a fender ad that had Msrp at like 2600. Or something like that. Street price was probably much lower but I think it may have had to do with the poor reception these amps had. It's a shame people weren't into them because they really are great sounding. The eq is so sensitive and that could lead to someone maybe struggling a bit to dial in a sound but it also can be super versatile if you have a trained ear and know how to dial in a amp. I wish I knew more about circuitry. I'm curious if they based this on a recto. I have a dual recto for a couple years and I can see a lot of similarities. I don't know though.
      I haven't used the machete in a few months and yesterday I plugged in and had a blast for a couple hours playing through it. I did a search to see if any new videos had come up on the amp and found yours. Btw Great Lenny cover at the beginning man. Sounded great. If you haven't check out the video andertons did way back when they released. Chappers loved the machete and has mentioned it in many videos and favorite amp lists since. It's good to know the value is going up.
      Same here on the notch. 11 or 12 o'clock mostly for me. I haven't found a use for the pull bright switch either. The best part of this amp for me is the clean channel with the gain boost engaged. Love that sound.
      It's nice to know others appreciate this amp too. I was really excited to see your video. Take care and be safe.

    Have you ever tried a Prosonic? Similar kind of vibe. Clean that breaks up quickly, and an absurdly ferocious gain stage.

    • @TaylorSchlupp
      @TaylorSchlupp  3 роки тому

      I haven't. I heard those and the old Tone Master heads are really cool. A little too much gain for me though. I hardly ever even take the Machete into channel 2

    • @e36sam
      @e36sam 3 роки тому

      @@TaylorSchlupp I actually had the honour of having a Machete and 2 Prosonics together in the same room. We tried them back to back. The Machete is definitely more versatile, but doesn't quite have the character of the Prosonic. Keep your eyes peeled for one- they did them in Seafoam Green, Lizard Red and black. The Lake Oswego ones are the ones to go for- made by the Custom Shop.

A MIM Special Edition also awesome in all respects and a Fender Magnificent Seven. It pretty much stays in its case except for special occassions. These were not expensive as some custom runs but very limited production which you probably know more than me.
