      Great job David! Glad our video was helpful. Assume the Amp Tuning Guide helped as well? If so, all you need is to get that radio flashed and you're good to go. Here's a list of dealers that can help you with that: rftech.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1344

      The amp tuning was easy as well. Yes, I just need to get it flashed. I've found a shop but I have make an appointment. By not having it flashed, will it hurts the speakers or overload the system?

    • @rockfordfosgate
      @rockfordfosgate  4 роки тому +1

      @@hotboi813 Awesome! Glad that tuning guide helped. The radio has a massive +28 dB boost at 100 Hz ... which means anything over low-to-moderate listening will burn up the speakers in a matter of time. Running without the radio flash isn't an option. Until you can get the bike in, it's all about keeping you and your family safe. I know a lot of automotive / motorcycle dealers are going the extra mile to wipe down everything to keep customers safe, so that's great to hear.

      Rockford Fosgate is it possible to flash the radio before the install?

    • @rockfordfosgate
      @rockfordfosgate  4 роки тому +1

      Absolutely@@gregcamp9094, in fact we prefer to do it that way. It won't hurt anything and it will be ready when you do the install. Be certain they use the "Rockford Fosgate 2014+ All Bikes" flash as there are several available.

    I wish I better understood that the factory eq curve needs to be reprogrammed or removed. An amp cant handle eq settings? I already had my dealer make the eq curve for 'rockford fosgate aftermarket' but would like to better understand why I had to do that.

    • @rockfordfosgate
      @rockfordfosgate  2 роки тому +1

      Hi P4T, I wrote a small tech brief about this where you can visualize the EQ curve (see below). The main issue is there is +28 dB at 100 Hz. This is O.K. for low powered systems, but when you amplify that amount of gain, it's equivalent to quadrupling power at that frequency. This would be similar to installing 4 turbos on 1 cylinder of an engine and expecting it to operate just fine at high RPM. This EQ configuration for the radio was designed by the previous auto-sound designer for Harley-Davidson. This is why H-D approached Rockford Fosgate to redesign their factory equipped systems. We wiped that EQ curve out and started from scratch. This is exactly what we're doing on your bike, we remove it and start with a baseline curve which is easier to amplifier without blowing up your speakers. Here's that tech article: rftech.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1215/

      @@rockfordfosgate you mention that HD dealers can no longer do this. I asked at my dealer and they put in aftermarket RF tune. He said there were several eq curves for him to flash, he chose that one based on me telling him that I was going to put the RF 400w marine amplifier in.

    • @rockfordfosgate
      @rockfordfosgate  2 роки тому

      @@BBD40 It depends on what type of flasher they are using. Some H-D dealerships also use the standalone TechnoResearch flasher which makes this possible. Using the TechnoResearch flasher, we recommend the "Rockford Fosgate 2014+ All Bikes" flash. If they are using their H-D DigitalTech hardware, the best option is "2 Speakers Upper Fairing / 1 Amp" setting. Both are similarly "flat", but the Rockford Fosgate tune has a little more lower end for the saddlebags.

  • @angeloiezzi7054

    first, let me say thank you for doing the video and for not showing EVERY bolt removal. If we are attempting this we SHOULD know how to remove the saddlebag, gas tank ETC. So that is great you did not cover all that. I have a unique bike question. I have an 18 HD road glide Ultra but there is no tour pack speakers, only saddlebag lid speakers ( we added a chopped tour pack with no speakers). Lid speakers are RF with no amp. I would like to upgrade the fairing speakers with RF and add a 4 channel AMP to run all 4 speakers. So my question is, which Amp ( roughly 400 watts will work), which fairing speakers, and more importantly, do I need any additional wiring harnesses? It seems that I do not but before I take this sucker apart I wanted to confirm.

    • @rockfordfosgate
      @rockfordfosgate  4 роки тому

      Hi Angelo, Thank you for your feedback! We would recommend the TMS65 speakers, TM400X4ad amplifier, and the RFK-HD14 amp wiring kit. All these parts are included in the HD14RGSG-STAGE2 kit that can be found here: www.rockfordfosgate.com/products/details/HD14RGSG-STAGE2/

    I’m looking into doing the Stage 1 Rockford Fosgate upgrade, but with the Stage 2 speakers. I was told the amp installs in the saddlebag, but this video shows it being installed behind the fairing. Is this an old product? Is there a video for the amp I’m supposed to install in the saddlebag?

      Hi Sweetmeat (very clever name), Are you referring to the "Harley-Davidson Audio Powered by Rockford Fosgate" solutions? That is a "factory installed" system that can be purchased through your local Harley-Davidson dealership. This video is for our "aftermarket" audio kit. The two systems are completely different in the way they are installed, setup, and tuned.

    Can I flash after installing or I have to do it before?

    • @rockfordfosgate
      @rockfordfosgate  4 роки тому +1

      You can flash either way. We suggest before so you can start rockin' out once the system is done. If you flash after, DO NOT play the system loud or you will burn-up speakers.

    Local Harley shop says it takes an hour to flash the radio but it’s around $30… does that sound right? Sounds like a long time just to flash the radio and cheap

    • @rockfordfosgate
      @rockfordfosgate  2 роки тому

      Harley shops vary the price and $30 does seem like a deal, but if you purchased the product from them, sounds like they are offering you a discounted rate. The actual process once the bike is in front of the technician is around 10-15 mins, but I know a lot of shops charge an hour minimum shop rate. If they have the Techno-Research Flasher, verify they are going to use the "Rockford Fosgate 2014+ All Bikes" setting. Dealers also remove the fairing to double check the amplifier settings. You can download the "Amp Tuning Guide" for your model here: rftech.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1355/

    Just finished the install on my 2021 roadglide. Turned everything on for a low volume sound check, and I have sound from fairing speakers but hiss from bag speaker. Is this normal before the flash(getting flashed tomorrow shop is closed).
    Also great video. Made the install go really smooth.

    • @rockfordfosgate
      @rockfordfosgate  3 роки тому

      Hi Scias013, no this is not normal. FIRST, double check the AMPLIFIER INPUT/OUTPUT HARNESSES are properly "seated" in the connectors. Remove each molex connector and pull each individual wire in the molex to be sure the wire is "seated" properly in the connector. If any wire pulls out of the molex connector, push that wire back into connector until you hear a tiny [click]. This should fix your problem. If not .... SECOND, switch the harnesses on the INPUT side of the amplifier. Plug the FRONT harness into the REAR AMP INPUT and plug the REAR harness into the FRONT AMP INPUT. Check to see if the noise changes from the baglid speakers to the fairing speakers. Let me know what happens here.

    Where can I get the remote turn-on wire with the plug for the harness

    • @rockfordfosgate
      @rockfordfosgate  4 роки тому +1

      If you already have the HD14RGSG-STAGE3 kit, the turn-on is the blue wire on the main harness that plugs into the brake side. You'll remove an empty connector to plug-in the blue wire that will allow the motorcycle voltage to turn-on the amplifier. If you're asking where you can purchase the cabling for the remote turn-on wire, this is included in our RFK-HD14 kit available here: www.rockfordfosgate.com/products/details/rfk-hd14/

      Hi Cody, I read on your other msg that the installer didn’t use the quick disconnects we include in the kit, so I’m curious about the installation. There is a tuning guide for proper setup that we tend to see installers ignore. There are 2 important settings, 1) the radio pre-tune setup and 2) the amplifier settings. Here is the reference sheet for the tuning guide: www.rockfordfosgate.com/rnt/rnw/docs/1355/harleyamptuning_1998-2013_rfk-hd9813.pdf

      @@codyharris7288 Following back up since I've been out of the office. Another thing I was thinking about is we see Bluetooth phone settings that have a big difference in audio loudness:
      iOS > Settings > Music
      - AUDIO > Cellular Streaming > High Quality
      - AUDIO > EQ > Off
      - AUDIO > Sound Check > Off
      It would be worth testing audio loudness by using music loaded onto a USB Drive so we have a different music source.
