Soviet tank comparison 😂😂😂
Did you actually leave it sitting around without using it to make calls for 20+days?
T9 allowed you to only press the buttons once instead of tapping them multiple times. For a five-letter word, you pressed a total of five times, and from the system's dictionary it wrote the most probable word. It also proposed other alternatives of words. 43556 -> HELLO

Totally legit. Using T9 was actually pretty quick for my friends and I. Rarely did you need to go with a non-default word. I dare say it was probably 70% as fast as qwerty on a smartphone, with some initial practice.
Hated t9. Just learn the order of the letters lol never had to look at some point

They should make a model that has access to basic features like camera and gps for map. I think this could make a good alternative for parents who buy phones for their kids.
Yes totally agree. I want to use this only for my vacation time. Very stylish hipster would use this designers and artist would use this. But düring the trip I need to take and photo and find a way through… map + gps + camera optionally. So I put my smart phone away and just carry this. Or even for my busy business trip with my notebook. To turn off all the social media and focus on work. And still I need to take photos and find a way out in business trip in overseas.

Typing messages on a T9 keypad was the best especially when you can type without looking at the phone. Those were the good old days.
I have a Nokia. I use it every day as my main phone. It has a T9 keypad and it's really impractical. It takes me about two minutes to write "Pick me up at the CN Tower". You're just looking back with rose tinted glasses.
Exactly, I actually sent way more (and way longer) texts on my old Nokia (with T9 which was actually predictive texting turned off - I hated the feature) than on my smartphone. I started to use it in November and I still find typing a message on a damn touchscreen super inconvenient (even with swipe and smart predictions - it's just slower and more prone to errors) :D

Well he explained T9 as having to press the key 3 times. That's just standard text messaging. T9 was the predictive text where you only had to press a key once for a particular letter and the phone predicted what letter you needed based on what follows.
This was our life and not so very long ago either. Over 10 years ago many phones had buttons, and as you said, that meant T9, the triple press. I was mostly with fido since '97 when they were owned by Microcell Solutions so I remember the fido blimps, and I remember the huge Motorola flip before that from Bell that was a phone booth in my pocket, ...er at least it felt that way.
Would like to hear and see more about the UI, specifications, and the company’s story but at 3:00 he just starts going off like it’s a comedy bit instead of a review. Not helpful.

No thats pretty much how you use t9. If you are talking about predictive text them thats a function of t9 you can disable or enable just like in qwerty keyboard.
@@mikey_n_vegas No, it's not.
T9 is a predictive text technology for mobile phones. T9's objective was to make it easier to enter text messages. It allowed words to be formed by a single keypress for each letter, which was an enormous improvement on the multi-tap approach used in conventional mobile phone text entry at the time, in which several letters were associated with each key, and selecting one letter often requires multiple keypresses. - Wiki

T9 doesn't mean you've to press a key 3 times to reach to letters such as 'c', 'f', etc. Rather T9 is exactly the opposite -- it's a predictive mechanism where you press the key only once but the sequence of such keystrokes forms words that you're most likely to type. Back in the day, we would get used to the word that it'd spew out with certain key sequence and also the number of times you'd press * to get to the alternative word with the same sequence that you're willing to type!

I feel like the makers of this phone are missing a fundamental usability issue here, that being, people do want less distraction, but I think most people do not want to have to revert back to an old user interface and experience to get it. T9 input, physical buttons, black berry etc. A lot of people won't even know what these things are!?
Why not release a minimal phone with a completely stripped down version of Android that let's you access the basics. Phone, contacts list, calendar, text/whatsapp, basic navigation, bluetooth and your favorite music option (Spotify/iTunes). That way you keep the attributes of the phone to the bare minimum, but keep the familiar UX and UI, meaning that you don't have to relearn anything. Even make the UI grey scale to promote limited use or use a different type of screen technology, such as that used on the Kindle etc. Which would also help to preserve battery life.
Even though you want people to use there phone less, you want the user to have a good, quick and easy experience when they do pick up the phone. This isn't it.
Does anyone know if there is an Android skin that does this? i.e puts your phone into a bare-bones state?
M E P R this sounds like a modern iPhone but with Safari, UA-cam, and the App Store icons hidden.
Stripped android could have a browser sideloaded through apks, and than playstore could be downloaded through that

Look in tech altars channel, they reviewed a phone that is exactly like this, what you are describing.
i have had one now for a year and i love the thing. i use it as my main everyday phone, and i use my iphone as my backup in case there is some legit reason i need to take a smartphone with me (going on a plane, or to a baseball game and you must have a smart phone to access the tickets, etc.). the superior ergonomic and visual design and the simple minimalism are what i most love. you quickly get used to doing email and internet and social media tasks when you get home, on your laptop/desktop.
I used to be able to type in t9 really fast. I could write a paragraph in like 10 seconds in my earlier high school days haha (it's been about 10 years).

I use to T9 text perfectly with the phone in my pocket. That's what highschool taught me (because we couldn't have phones out during class)
What you’re describing is the ABC thing where you hit each key a bunch of time to get each letter. T9 used predictive text so you’d only have to hit the key once and it’d guess what word you were trying to type and you’d toggle through options with the down key. Come on, Lou!
And it made texting sooo much easier. I still remember experiencing that "upgrade".
Thanks for this, I knew I wasn't crazy remembering T9 as the old predictive text. I HATED T9 (still do). I'd rather text each letter the old fashioned way, I've turned off predictive on every phone I own.
*The most minimalist is the tin can telephone.*
You had a tiny can!? In my day you knocked a hole in the wall and talked real loud.
Nope, smoke signals and carrier pigeons
Probably won't get this phone but your video is interesting to me because I've never had a current era "smart phone." I prefer keys, like the small minimalist style, and I don't need the bells/whistles of the iPhone craze so I've stuck to my Nokia E52 for the last 10 years. Calls, texts, FM radio, camera, basic web browsing (mainly for the occasional glance at FB) is all I need. I've never experienced the level of addiction that you speak of so it's interesting seeing a review from someone that has experienced this. Thanks! Please review more minimalist phones in the future!
I've been using Nokia 216 for a month now. It's almost there. Been missing the old keyboard!
T9 was/is actually a predictive technique used to avoid multiple key-presses, which not the multiple key-press itself. Lack of T9 was the reason you had to press the same key multiple times in order to get to a certain letter, number or a symbol. Thanks for a nice review, as always!
I remember how dreadful it was to type long messages on the buttons, but then again the Nokia I used at that time (not the 3310) had 40+ days of standby time. The battery would be shown at full charge after more than 3 weeks of standby time, which is insane compared to today's "get you through a day" stereotype. During average usage it lasted about 2 to 3 weeks. I'll go check which Nokia it was.
I love that what you call a minimalist phone most people just call a phone. In fact it still does a lot of things beyond what a phone does.
They should put a flash light on that thing to in case when u have to looking for some thing in the dark
I have this phone! Loving it so far. I use my ipad when needed but being out without distractions is nice 👍
The word you are searching for is *NOSTALGIC* .
Harsh Neema yeah true...
Harsh Neema but the whole point of this phone is to be cut off from social media platforms... Where as the jiophone is trying it's best to become a smartphone ...

We use these as secure phones with BlackBerry Enterprise Server 12 encrypted calls, text and notifications.
That’s not how T9 works. You press each button once and use 0 to cycle through the available words you can spell. The point was for your phone to predict common words that are usually next to each other to cut down on button presses. The point of T9 was to prevent pressing the same button three times.
Where is Unbox Therapy Rewind?

This was posed to me just today. Not from someone, but through a therapy video. I don’t spend time on Instagram that much, nor do I constantly take pics, but I do FaceTime, watch videos and use it for directions. I have been searching for something like that. Hell, I may get 2 plans and use one number for the “dumb” phone and the other for the “smart” phone.
when i drive i use siri to call or text and i have the phone hooked up to the car so i can answer with the steering wheel
