I hope to see more of Reviewer Man swayed by childhood wonder and whimsy in the future. Feels more fun than screaming at games. We need more positivity in the world.
I wholeheartedly agree with this video. Sure, the combat is simplistic and a bit on the repetitive side, but GOD DAMN do they nail just about everything else. Just on visuals and faithfulness to the original movie alone makes it a bit of a work of art. Simply wandering around each location, absorbing the atmosphere and visuals is always a treat. Especially so since, once you reach the "Filthy Finale" chapter, you have 100% access to every area in the game, making it a semi-open world/metroidvania-esque map. While I don't think it's my favorite game of all time, it'll always be a wonderful treat to go back to whenever the holiday mood strikes me, much like when I want to re-watch the movie itself. Also, the rhythm game boss battles are excellent. Such a brilliant change in gameplay dynamics for an IP that's very much loved for its music as much as its visuals. That, and fighting Dr. Finklestine with his own original song is SUCH an amazing experience and hidden reference to a cut plot-point from the movie. The people that made this game DID THEIR HOMEWORK.
This game is a big part of my childhood. I know it's kind of rough but you really hit the nail on the head saying the asthetic is fanatic and the way it emulated the musical aspect of the movies was so cool. I should play it again now that I'm old enough to figure out how to beat it.
I grew up obsessed with playing this game as a kid on the ps2 and I can’t believe it’s been 20 years already, all I did was stay in the final level of the game and explore all the areas
Robot Alchemic Drive is one of my favorite games, and Iron Giant is one of my favorite movies. That little throwaway line spoke to my soul, I hope your time traveling pans out 🙏
@guava88 I wonder why that's taking so long. They gave an update not too long ago on Twitter saying it's still happening but it's still taking quite a long time
That Digimon Frontier action game comment hit me straight in my fucking heart, I've wanted that for longer than I've known I actually like action games.
this final boss convinced me that you're a different person after playing rythm games. before it took me a handful of attempts and barely beat it, after I perfected it on hard first try even though I hadn't played it for years. also for the hinterlands timed fights do the charged grab that spins the enemy around, use a blue soul before it ends to reset it and keep mashing.
Taunt successfully in front of an enemy before a grab will insta-charge the Soul Robber, cutting time down by a few seconds (cause it takes a few seconds to do a normal charge).
@@1Synner Even TheGamingBrit figured this one out already, and he made his review like a decade ago. Though a successful taunt will enrage enemies like in God Hand and Bayonetta, so there's a tradeoff.
@@harlannguyen4048 Yeah, I'm aware of Mr. Brit's review, lol, but not everyone is, so I decided to give the advice anyway. But, yeah, that's the trade off... well, provided that they can get mad fast enough. I haven't been able to consistently replicate this, but you can hit them/grab them quick enough to keep them from "triggering". That said, enraged skellies are just a bit faster and more aggressive, so they aren't TOO much of a handful if you're careful with positioning.
I remeber how mind-blowing it was for me when this game came out, but sadly I never found it as a kid. It's probably super expensive on the reseller market right now. 😅
Given how hard Capcom has leaned into the character action game genre over the years, it kind of amazes me that they never took the chance to make a Megaman Zero hack n' slash title. If it had the depth of the Devil May Cry games it could've easily been one of the greats, especially given the I.P. that it would've been saddled with. I'm a huge Megaman fan and I love DMC so I'd be all over that kind of thing.
Although it has received little attention in the West, 2d action games like Mega Man Zero have influenced games like hollow knight. Mega Man Zero was handled by Inti Creates, a group of young employees who had left Capcom. The people at Inti Creates respected Inafune so much that after he left Capcom, they distanced themselves from Capcom, so they stopped making Mega Man. In addition,Mega Man Zero has very low overseas sales despite its name recognition, so it would be difficult to get a high-budget 3D action project like dmc's through. Capcom could probably make a reasonable 3D action game on a low budget, but I don't think there are many people at Capcom today who have any feelings for Mega Man or Mega Man Zero in the first place.
@@pppp-by1bq Well that is disappointing to know the Inti Creates devs aren't in the business of doing Megaman games anymore, though admittedly I didn't think they were since it's been so long since they made ZX Advent. But it is very respectable to know they stepped away from Capcom in spite of Inafune's decision to do so as well. That's some serious dedication.
@@BenOlsberg1995 Well, after ZXA, they also produced Mega Man 9 and 10, but that was because Inafune was at Capcom. In a recent interview with Inti Creates, they said they still owe Inafune a debt of gratitude and are still involved. However, Capcom also understands that Mega Man is an iconic IP, so even without Inti Creates, a new Mega Man game will be coming soon.
@@pppp-by1bq Oh cool, that's exciting to know, thanks for the information, Nonetheless that was plenty informative, so thank you for that. The games we play (most of the time) are quality experiences so it's nice to know more about what goes into them.
Really miss the days when there was a game adaptation of literally anything that came out, PS2 really did have a game for almost everything. Except Hellsing somehow for some reason, crime there isn't one.
I really liked this game and it made me want more japanese developed games of western IP. Aladdin, star wars, marvel, spawn, batman, etc. Itd be really cool to see those characters doing all these crazy attacks and special moves youd see in a japanese action game. Hi fi rush is sort of like that since the character designs look straight out of a 2000s cartoon
Thanks for the breakdown! I need some advice: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). Could you explain how to move them to Binance?
I actually did play this before Devil May Cry 3 _(first DMC I ever played)_ so it proved to be a helpful primer for this time of action game. But goddamn you can really tell the difference going right from one to the other, this game was rather slow while DMC was hitting the gas hard. A more accurate descriptor for Oogie's Revenge would be DMC but in slow motion XD
I rented this game with a friend when I was a dumb kid without much character action experience. Now i'm a dumb adult without much character action experience, but I wonder if I would appreciate it more now.
