Now if we can just get all HVAC Techs to test this after they hook up their gauges. Tech I had years ago hooked up his gauges on a bad cap call, 3 months later we had a leak. They wanted $$ to check for leaks using "probably in the coil" talk/hard to find/ expensive fixes just wanted to sell me a $15k new system.. Years later after using a window unit I find this channel, checked it out and sure enough that is what it was. Thanks to Anti DIY for saving me $15k :-)
I have one I check every year. The core was leaking. I replaced three cores- still leaked. Put a seal cap on it and moved on. Been like that for 18 years. No problem. What makes me nervous is when starting to remove a cap on the high side and it starts hissing loudly!! You really hope someone didn't leave the core out!
Good idea removing the core from the gauge but wondering how long to rise on extra small leak.. will definitely try it but also keeping my caps with holes
Nice, looks 100% reliable. Any chance the Shrader cap has a pad (as would be used on a refrigerant bottle; would depress the core) instead of an O-ring?
you have to watch out for that! many of the caps have a flat rubber gasket, that will distort in the center and press the core open. most now have a gasket with hole in the center, but I have seen many bent core stems that would still get depressed by said caps.(needs replaced anyway/sloppy work bent them).
Hey guys! Have any of you replaced R22 out of a residential AC unit and use R12 instead? I would like to know if had a good or bad experience. Thank you very much in advance
That’s a neat trick right there removing your core depressor from the gauge to see if pressure increased.

First! Those Appion's really are excellent tools.
Great video. I just could not figure out why every HVAC guys/gals alway put stuff on top of compressor even if if on/off. Things could fall inside.😊
good idea on the gauge! As far as the shredder replacement, you still need to purge the air out before you open the valve to set it.
Great tech tip from the Master Tech. Did you ever hear of Leaky Valve Core and The Trumpeteers? 😎
I usually screw in my valve core tools and push in the plunger. If plunger extends I know I got a leak.
I like the gauge idea . I may do one up like that
Excellent little repair ... Appions are hard to beat ... Thx
Use my Appion frequently. Great tool!

Just bought appions this year had the yellow jackets before and the nut would pop off and you would lose the charge or vacuum these work great so far

Great idea ! Looks like the old s valve lost its seal.
Nice work Theodore 👍👍🇨🇦
“It is still 81 degrees upstairs” says the helicopter! Ha ha responded Ted! That was great!
Always learning from Ted! Thanks for the tip!
Unfortunately the industry is full of crooks and people helicopter for a reason.
I love to leak test tool you fashinioned. Good job Teddy!
Thank you!
It’s funny how the smartest tips are usually the most simple
Great work sir😊😊
That and a new brass cap with a seal. Good to go 👍🏻
Excellent tech tip! 🏆
Wow, very cool tool! Thanks Ted.
Wow, that core tool is awesome!
Well done Ted 👍 au
No doubt with the gauge 🤷♂️👍🏻😎
Steve Lav would be saying She's a Leka Momma.
Right on! Thanks for the tip Ted.
Great Video. Thank you for sharing

Awesome!!
I had one of those not come out before and just let it fly into my hand. Never again will I do that again.
Anti DIY pro tip?
I always you’d the appoin as the leak check
Nice!
Thx.
nice trick
Like it
New core doubled the value of that unit
😎👍😎👍😎👍
Looks like the bad core was missing the middle o-ring, thus causing the leak.
DYNAMITE !!!
