For Suzuki owners, this isn’t how you test the TPS. This just shows there is resistance, not that it’s the right resistance. Between the Black and Blue wires it should be 5 ohms. Between black and yellow, you fully open the throttle and it should be between 3.09 and 4.63 ohms...rotate the tps to get in that range then lock it down.

@Amopower In this situation I would check the wires to the computer for pinches to the frame etc where a rock or a riding boot may have created an intermittent unwanted contact to each other or wire to ground.

Brian, great video and love your channel. Cruising several vids now to solve a flame out and deceleration backfire issue on 2010 CRF450R. Thanks for all you do!

Checking things like that is where an old-fashioned analog meter comes in handy. You can see the smoothness of the change a lot more easily on an analog meter.

@grishenko45 You're welcome- good luck. This one wound up being the wrong computer year supplied by the owner.

@TheMozza76 There are manufacturer specific tests for that.

It's the carburetor! I can tell it's never had a mid body o ring kit installed the epoxy is still in the Allen heads.

Hey! 2020 now. But I have a 09 and I gotta give it some gas to start it and it takes awhile to start some times backfiring but it'll start up and won't idle. But the thing is once it's on, I gotta keep giving it throttle to stay on and it'll rev out and drive great.

funny you upload this - i think mines dodgy atm - the idle valve i've cleaned - the throttle body is immaculate - no vacuum leaks (i think) - so will try this 2nite! thanks

I was wondering if you knew how to determine where to set the sensor at so the dirtbike will start and run which I have a 04 Honda CRF250R that I am so tired of kicking!

Put the right year computer in it. The customer swapped out his 04 Zuki for an 07 Kawi without swapping the computer too. The throttle curve, timing, etc were all off.- customer failed to tell me this.

@briansmobile1 mine seems to be ok, i disconnected the vehicle speed sensor which have problems on fords, the revs don't hang anymore - so i need a new VSS, but it still stalls, so a new idle control valve is needed too!

Hi Brian - in order to get the TPS properly positioned on my 94Probe, you supposedly have to rotate it until you get continuity at closed throttle, then insert a 0.006" feeler gauge between the throttle and throttle stop, check again, and verify continuity still. Then, with a 0.020" feeler gauge, verify no continuity, I have done all of that, but I always get a fault that the TPS voltage is out of range. I am not sure how this can be?

what if the tps has 4 connections...say like on a '94 dodge colt....on the actual tps above the connectors is painted/marked ( + 0 S - ) without the parenthesis of course...the "S" could be an "8" it's kinda hard to tell since they are somewhat faded

So every 2 wire combination you should get movement? Out of the 3 top left and bottom stays at 3 ohms no movement however with your combination I get the same on my Honda CRF450R

I would never buy a used 4 stroke. To many things for people to screw up. With a 2 stroke its limited and easy to troubleshoot.
