- Fired GB News presenter Calvin Robinson says that censorship of free speech is “the snake that eats itself alive."
“We shouldn’t have to play these games, we should be able to say the truth as we know it - as we’ve always know it.”
Julia Hartley-Brewer was joined by Calvin Robinson and Russell Quirk.
Calvin Robinson, who hosted a religious current affairs programme on GB News, had been dismissed after sharing support for the suspended Dan Wootton online.
Last week, 37-year-old Robinson revealed he had also been suspended from GB News after he stood in solidarity with Wootton online, adding that GB News will be on “borrowed time” if it does not stand by Wootton.

Calvin us spot on. The majority of people are sick and tired with our freedoms being banned especially freedom of speech.
Freedom of speech comes with responsibility, that does not include unnecessary abusive language. Especially when you lose the moral ground and the argument through it's use.

The lady in question "Ava" was dismantling men with her negative attitude towards them! But nobody ever mentions that, she seems to only care about women's rights, when she wants to use them for her own agenda.

There needs to be an investigation into OFCOM who are they? Who decides what can or cannot be said or shown? When they allow a show on channel 4 in which people parade around naked and are judged on their appearance and they do not find that to be offensive to people, but continue to censor peoples speech, something is seriously wrong.

I suspect he was sacked for criticising his employer publicly, and implying colleagues were after Dan's slot. It only added fuel to media pile on, and probably did nothing to actually support Dan. Few employers will put up with that, and I don't imagine collegues appreciated being dragged into it. A certain standard of professional conduct is expected. And now he's slating them because it didn't go his way. There's nothing to admire here, IMO.

Laurence did break the rules, he did break his contract so GB news had to take action. It could have been a slap on the wrist or he could have been asked to apologise…. But Dan Wooten was suspended for smiling. Smiling? It was probably a smile of embarrassment. But Calvin??? What did he do? He spoke in support of free speech whilst Criticising what Fox said - and for that he got sacked! That is insane….
As well as OFCOM authoritarianism, another factor is that the balance sheet rules the boardroom. If advertisers and funders get twitchy, noble ideas of “free speech” go out the window.

Nothing Mr Fox said was illegal. Therefore he's perfectly entitled to say it. For a channel that bills itself as a free speech champion, I would say it was a breach of contract. They hired him knowing his style, Farage admitted on this morning that Mr Fox had a reputation. Yet they terminated his employment, regardless. A stupid move indeed. They would have been better saying the views expressed were Mr Foxes and not those of GB news. He was after all appearing as a guest.
Important to remember Fox was a guest when he said those things and not the host.
Fox was not sacked for expressing his views about Ava's questionable comments. He was sacked for pointless, personal insults on an Ofcom regulated platform, and breaking the terms his contract. He used his right to free speech, and it resulted in backlash. He messed up and ought to stop blaming others.

This is just one issue. The directives are in every area of our life now. It’s getting to the point where if you don’t think and act as you are authorised to think and act you will be punished. And the authorised band of acceptable behaviour is getting narrower.

Whether one has a faith or not, British law is based on Christian principles & has stood us in good stead until now. Yes. There was what I consider to be a misandrist comment about surpressing testosterone by a female presenter on GB News yesterday, but she will not lose her job or be reprimanded. Calvin's reference to the great Douglas Murray's 'sh...ng' comment proves the narrative is biased in favour of misandry.

The BBC doesn't want competition. They don't want alternative versions that contradict their assertion that they reveal the truth to be allowed to broadcast.
The BBC has had competition from ITV for 70 years, Channel 4 for 40 years, Sky for 30 years and internet journalism for 20 years. If they are trying to crush competitors they are not doing a very good job of it.
