Im so proud of your life style you are the salt of the earth. I am 82 years old and I grew up with the same values I was raised on a farm and we grew all our food what happy memories you are giving me thank you and GOD BLESS
With those Black Eyed Peas, Ham Hocks and Collard greens cake of cornbread. and this is a New Years meal. in the South. and so good. born and raised in High Point N.C. YOU GO GIRL.
Grew jalapeno Reaper, ghost and Tobasco in ground here. Nothing else would produce. Reapers smell awful if you make anything eww. They also turned every pepper within 200 ft each direction hot. So once was enough for me growing them.
I am addicted to watching you folks homestead. I usually watch folks and then end up shaking my head in discussed because I see such waste of resources and energy, as well as discontent and disrespect. You folks understand what the old ways truly are and what being a family really is. You treat your children with respect while parenting them to be productive helpers. I am not talking about discipline. I am talking about talking to your children like they matter and have feelings and ideas that matter how blessed you are. May you find joy in your family because family and the way you live each day is an example to others.
Now Maggie, when you're eatin' that watermelon, save three of the seeds and put them on your forehead. Name them after three boys you want to marry. The last one that falls off is the boy you'll marry! LOL!! My grandma had me and my cousins doing that when we were little eating her fresh watermelons from their garden. Can you imagine? All us kids walking around with watermelon seeds on our foreheads, wrinkling our foreheads and cocking our eyebrows so to "influence" who would fall off and who wouldn't, haha!! Oh, and I love pickled banana peppers in my chili! Nice crop of peppers. Andy, make sure those pots you put your citrus trees in have good drainage. Citrus trees are super picky about water... they can't dry out but too much water will cause the roots to rot. Rotate the pots every now and then so the trees grow evenly and each side gets good light. You might put a light layer of mulch over the soil. And there's a product called Citrus-Tone that's a good fertilizer for citrus trees. Thanks for the update. God bless!!
The millennial gardener grows all kinds of citrus trees and he is located on the coast of South Carolina. He is a wealth of knowledge especially when it comes to overwintering citrus trees.
The Millennial Gardner is in Wilmington, NC. He has great ideas including putting Christmas tree lights on citrus trees for frost protection in the winter.
@@taketwodevotions1247 It’s almost embarrassing how many videos of his that I’ve seen. I only remember where he’s at because my niece lives there. No worries! 😀
Thank you for this relaxing video, I am sick and watched you all from my bed and you made me feel so much better I swear I could smell the plants it was so relaxing now a nap. ❤🎉
Your kids are learning so many great skills.i love to have packages of peppers, onions and celery chopped up in the freezer, so versatile. I dried my hot peppers by hanging them upside down.
Just when I was stringing beans to put up, your notification pops up. Lo and behold, you be canning green beans. Great minds thank alike. Much love to un’s from Appalachia Kentucky.
Great video! The most precious thing was watching little Jacob eating the watermelon. Your children are so into life and every day they are learning something new. I enjoy every video and it amazes how you accomplish so much.
Megan have you ever made pepper jelly? I love it on meatloaf and over cream cheese with crackers and if you really want to have a party in your mouth try some on fried cornbread. I make it with and without heat and some I mix pineapples in
I LOVE growing peppers. I freeze some, pickle some and make stuffed peppers and freeze them. I do the typical rice and meat mixture for some, but my favorite thing is some cooked and crumbled sausage mixed with cream cheese and some parmesan and stuff any small to medium pepper sliced long ways. I make big batches at a time and freeze in small batches. They are great for appetizers or an easy light dinner!
I lost my lemon and lime trees a couple of years ago when we had single digit and zero degrees. They were mature trees. My DIL suggested wrapping Christmas lights around fruit trees in winter to give them just enough heat so they wouldn’t freeze. Greenhouse will be a big help!
Really enjoy watching y'all's videos. What a simple way of life, (not meaning it's not hard) obviously a lot of hard work, but simple in the fact it's wholesome. Have a blessed day from Panama City, Florida zone 9a
If you cover the bed of carrots with a piece of black plastic you won't have to keep it watered. Just check it in a few days to see if they're sprouting then keep moist. Works every time
If you have the hay to spare after feeding the livestock over the summer, then you can spread a thick layer over your garden after you've cleaned it up. It helps keep the ground soft for next year. Then just till it in come spring for a little fertilizer.
I’m so jealous, Andy! I’ve been watching those same citrus trees now in town at Lowe’s. Unfortunately, ours hasn’t been discounted just yet and they are still $30. You betcha I’m gonna be hawkin them out now and waiting for them to be discounted. Thanks for the tip!
Andy, if I were you, I would plant as many of those collard greens as I could and had space for because you can feed them to your farm animals and it’s good for him better for him and it is cheap
Your gardens really exploded after the rain. The first time I planted carrots I didn't know I had to thin them out. Got some very interesting looking ones 🤣
I have a carrot container tip. I cut cardboard to fit on top of the soil, it helps keep it moist, I check daily and remove once they germinate. I usually get germination in about 7 days. It really seems to help. My wife and I love your videos here in northern West Virginia. Take care, stay well
I love your videos! Such a wonderful family. Beautiful children learning from their parents things that will ensure their survival and that they will thrive in life. So educational. You guys are a gift to humanity. Thank you for being you.
Oh for frozen jalapenos. I scramble sausage. I scramble sausage. I may do this in steps. I just scramble and freeze. Peppers might not be ready, but might have other makings. Fry onions in butter. When peppers come in, leave out cream cheese all night. If you like feta or goat cheese, it's a wonderful addition. So, now you put room temp cream cheese, oh yeah, thawed bacon and sausage crumbles, onions, cheddar shredded, if you like feta or goat cheese, put it in. Mix All of it. Put in plastic bag,or bags, how much, you know. If you have cleaned your peppers by now, snip hole in bag corner, like a pastry bag, fill peppers. Cook. Eat what you can, vac , freeze the rest. Oh , I bet you had filling left over. Put snipped bag in another bag and freeze. For sure is good for 5 months. Okay, more. Lay out till room temp when ready to do more peppers. Enjoy.
Meagan, we grow those every year here in Texas. So good! I find that because of the heat here these do better for us. Always enjoy your videos. I’ve learned a few things about persevering food from you. Thank you for what you are doing, even on the hard days!
Thats a great patch of peppers & a delicious looking meal!! We love peppers but have a hard time growing my favorite Bell Peppers too. They don't do well here for us. Our Cayennes do great. I'd like to share a little tip for all those that have problems with mice or rats in their vehicles or RV. I dry & string the beautiful red Cayenne to hang in my kitchen. (reminds me of my moms kitchen when I was a kid plus their just pretty.) I chop the dry peppers & sprinkle around the tires & jacks on the RV then some inside on paper plates near any area that's had a problem in the past like around pipes. On vehicles that are not used daily we put peppers around the tires & maybe some in the floors under mats just to give that hot scent mice & rats hate. This seems to work. Taking no chances because we've had some costly repairs to our vehicles due to them eating wiring; we put a bright light under them including the RV in the fall & winter. Haven't had any more damage. Cayenne works in the garden to deter rabbits & deer also. Ya'll do a wonderful job with the farm & especially those precious kids. Ya'll make my day so many times. I'm getting older & it's hard to do all the things you do now. Meagan, you remind me of my late sister whom I miss dearly. I love watching you in the kitchen. She & I had lots of fun cooking some of the same wonderful Southern dishes together. It makes me happy just listening to your Southern accent; I hear my sweet sister. God Bless you guys. Thanks for sharing.
Girl, I could hurt myself on that sweet potato casserole, and smile about it 😂.. Glad you all were safe from the storm. My heart breaks for Asheville and Lake Lure. One of my Sisters live up state of SC. They have a huge mess but are grateful.
Hanging hot peppers work well. I have done it like my parents and grandparents. We often grind the whole pepper into powder for seasoning. I love the Egyptian walking onions and with minimal attention they will last for years. The bulbs are best in the cooler months as the get strong in the summer but then you can eat the clusters on top. They do well in containers as well.
I make Halupsie, every year for Christmas. Basically stuffed cabbage rolls. I use corned-beef,sauerkraut , rice. Roll into to cabbage leaves, bake with the juice from the sauerkraut , at 350 for an hour. I top off with strips of bacon to add extra flavor
About your citrus. The greenhouse is great. But get yourself a string of incandescent Christmas lights. Set up on a timer and a thermometer that alerts you, so when the temps get into the freezing you can turn them on to keep them from freezing.
Megan. my grandma made the best banana peppers, took me forever to figure out.. they were packed in good olive oil, pinch salt, a big clove of garlic, but it was the beautiful smoked paprika that was the secret. Love to yall.
I am in a similar latitude Andy and I have started a lemon from the seed of a delicious lemon I ate. It is doing very well. I planted it in the same potting mix. The first year I brought it inside to a southern window. But now it is huge. It won't survive on the porch in the snow. I don't have a greenhouse, so I think I will cut it back and bring it back inside to the sunny window. Let you know how that goes.
After every video my husband says "that's a good family". Thank you two for honest & also steady content . I was so proud for y'all when I seen the pepper beds 😊 congratulations.
I had some citrus trees in central California & we would have some nights down to freezing. I would hang the old string Christmas lights ( the ones that give off heat) in the trees & cover with a sheet for the night. Kept them warm enough to protect from damage. So hang some lights in the greenhouse if you can run an extension cord to them to keep them from freezing. I now live in NE Tennessee & have some citrus in large pots will be doing the same.
A fun garden for Maggie next year would be a cattle panel hoop....of Rampicante squash (aka garden gorilla). We eat them as summer squash all summer....but can let them grow huge to cure as winter squash. We work up the 18 inch size as stewed squash with vidalia. They are really a great garden addition....just train them upward...and watch those things grow.
Hot pepper relish Make as hot or mild as you want. One peck of Hot Peppers (grind up) one clove garlic minced, one tsp. Salt, one cup sugar and one large bottle of Ketchup (I like Heinz). Place all prepared ingredients in large pot. Bring to a boil cook five minutes. Pour into jars add lids. Waterbath for15 minutes.
Yes 😀 oh May goodness Citrus !!! Just keep em watered and move into the greenhouse or move indoors during below freezing temps this winter sounds like a Great Jacob project😀
Great video y'all. Y'all do have a pepper jungle with plenty of peppers. This year, my cayenne pepper plants are waist high and loaded. Those watermelons look good. One of my favorite things Mama and Grandma used to make were watermelon rind preserves. Y'all have a great day!
Fry onion and pepper together in butter and freeze. Had great luck with stuffed jalapenos, cooking done and vacuum packing. Freeze. Fresh tasting. I use parchment paper between layers.
You need to check with 'For Jars' (my favorite brand)... they recommend NOT heating up the jar lids before canning as it deteriorates the glue that they use. Please check with them if you don't believe me but I'd stop doing that if I were you. I know... old habits die hard but in this case heating the lids might end up making the jars lids not hold as long . Check with them for the details... just wanted to pass it on to you. Love your channel... watch it everyday!
My (in the ground) citrus love my naturally acidic soil. I have lemon, orange, lime and kumquat and I don't adjust my 5.9 to 6.0 soil anywhere near them. When their leaves fall (they stay green all year) just put them in the pot. I don't rake around my citrus. If the fruit falls I leave that, too. My trees are 20 to 35 years old. I'm in zone 9b and they are happy to live without protection. There are people living in Utah and Colorado that have dug out a greenhouse and used the warmth of the earth to keep their greenhouse warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. They are growning citrus in zone 5.
When we plant our spring garden we usually plant 1 row of blackeyes because they come in earlier than the Texas Cream 40 white acre peas which is our preferred field pea.
Dry the peppers in a dehydrator, can even throw in some sweet as well. Once dried, grind into powder and use for seasoning on anything you want heat added.
Thank you for another great vlog! What a deal on the citrus trees, however I cannot advise on those I’ll be watching to see how they do. However on the peppers, there are so many things you can do with them as some have already commented, my favorite thing is to make Hot sauce with the different varieties. Another special treat is to smoke a bunch of peppers and garlic and make various sauces with them, a few smoked peppers in your salsa also enhances the flavors. Smoked peppers in your tacos and any meat dishes also. And you can pickle them to use throughout the year. Hope this finds y’all well and inspires a bit. Appreciate y’all , God bless!
I took my collard green seeds outside and threw down and watered them. Also did the cabbage and broccoli and cauliflower in little growing thingies and they all came up like crazy
I look forward to your videos every night! You and the kids work so hard, doing the work of God to feed your family and the rest of your neighbors as well
Learned from experience. Citrus needs major drainage like cactus soil mix or their roots will rot, especially in winter. They need humidity or will drop their leaves and need sun/grow lights and warmth indoors in winter. They grow great outdoors in summer After 3 dead plants I gave up. 😊 Good Luck! Local hardware store near me has large packs of saved seeds for like $1. Most germinated especially greens, peas and beans. Some county nurseries sell them too along with potato seed. Baker Creek is good no shipping fee.
Andy you mentioned your "fixable" watering nozzle. I like tools and machines we can fix ourselves. That made me think of a conversation I had recently with my husband who got a job repairing large lawn mowers in town. He said people get upset when they learn the lawn mower or weed eater or chainsaw they bought for a low price is more expensive to repair than they are worth. He recommends when researching to buy anything, ask a repairman who repairs for a living what he recommends. You would be surprised at the difference in the cost of repair!
I do the same in terms of flash freezing chopped peppers. Then I portion into zip locks inside a Food saver bag and seal. Lasts that way for years in the freezer.
Those watermelons looked amazing!!! I hope my piddly plant grows half what yours did. Green beans looked good too. Supper was right up my alley. How were the black eyed peas? Did you put chowchow on top? Score on the citrus trees, hoping they over winter for y'all. I really like how you both have the patience to show & teach & let your children help to learn these skills. Kudos to you!!! TY for another fine video. Blessings
I make jalapeño salt with my excess jalapeños. I dehydrate them, and then powder them with rock salt in the food processor. It’s especially good on popcorn.
I’ve been cutting mine up and freezing up! My banana peppers are growing prolifically! Same with the hot wax peppers! Saving them for crockpot Mississippi pot roasts
Andy, we used to grow Meyers lemons in our greenhouse for several years . We used regular Miracle Grow when they were blooming. I would suggest putting them back outside until they are established in a partially shaded area . Don't let the greenhouse get to hot. Good luck 👍
I forgot to ask if you are planning on an auxiliary heating source for your greenhouse? It's important for the winter nights. We're in central Virginia and I'm sure ya'll get colder than we do. 👍
Im so proud of your life style you are the salt of the earth. I am 82 years old and I grew up with the same values I was raised on a farm and we grew all our food what happy memories you are giving me thank you and GOD BLESS

Love your channel... watch it everyday!
Growing up we ate watermelon just like that, after working in the garden!
My grandad and dad use to do exactly the same thing with our chilli plants. Xxxx
Appreciate y’all , God bless!
just found out you have a cook book. i ordered it cannot wait to get it never too old for a new cookbook have a blessed day
I took my collard green seeds outside and threw down and watered them. Also did the cabbage and broccoli and cauliflower in little growing thingies and they all came up like crazy
Pecan tree fertilizer is very good for all your fruit trees I use that all the time it works real good 😊
I look forward to your videos every night!
Nice video! So cool showing your children put some work in and enjoy the fruits of your labor. Teaching them how to work.
Loving that over sized de-hydrator😅
I LOVE BLACK EYED PEAS, nothing better in the world
Those watermelons looked amazing!!!
The black-eyed peas looked delicious! Never thought about cooking in crock pot. This for more ideas to make cooking easier. ❤️
Just magic. Thankyou all of you so much.
My mom always hug the whole plant up in our basement which was our playroom, it had alot of windows.. she dried a many black walnuts there too.
Y’all have the prettiest manicured organized garden!
So lush and green!
Beautiful!
