In case you didn’t know, tillandsia is the genus for air plants. What makes this bromeliad so cool, along with its big bloom in relation to the size of the plant, is the fact that it’s sold as an air plant as well as in a pot. It does equally well growing either way & I’ve even seen it in large (2′) kissing ball form.
The pink quill, which is the inflorescence and not technically the flower, is the main draw for this plant. The rich blue/purple flowers which appear off the sides of the quill are actually short lived. I’ve found they open no more than 2 at a time & only last a couple of days. The good news is that the quill can last for up to 4 months.
New to the world of bromeliads, then why not give the Pink Quill Plant a try? This tillandsia is so easy that it practically maintains itself!

I usually don't just buy a plant without knowing anything about it, but I couldn't resist this unique and beautiful plant. Thanks for the informative video!
the cat takes off once you water the plant with a spray bottle :'D too funny. thanks for all of your videos!
I know! Riley is a rescue cat who I adopted when he was 2. & He's afraid of the spray bottle even though I've never aimed it at him. Oh well! Nell
Lolll
I just started watching your videos about plant care. The videos are very informative and love your sense of humor 🤓
My husband got me this plant as a gift. I didn't know what it was until I happened upon your video. Thanks for letting me know its easier to care for than it looks.
I just got this plant as a present, thanks for the great info and joyous presentation!
I use bottle water for watering mine. And I've had mine for couple months now. And love it. I didn't know what type of plant I actually had. Till someone told me on a group on Facebook. And now I'm doing research on it. Lucky me it has been doing great so far.
You are so fun to watch just found your channel and I hope to get air plants and succeed I can’t seem to keep them alive but this was very inspiring and I want to try again soon
Thank you for a very helpful video!! You’re so kind and generous :)
I just got one of these plants. Love it

Hi Joyce, your video is very helpful, thanks for sharing with us. Could you please advise if we should cut off the quill as soon as the flowering finishes? Many thanks.

Love your cat
Thank you great video, I’d had one of theese, been unable to find another one, and had no way to find what it was called. I’m prob missing something, but does that mean that, if there is ‘pup’ at base of the plant this should be hung somewhere like an air plant?
Hi..I'm Taj from Philippines I just bought a pink quil and it so happens that I search about to take care of this rare plant
my pink quilt is turninglight green after it flower , Please advice what to do ?
is it the same care for Tillandsia Antonio/Creation?
Question, Do I need to cut the quill spike after it flowers? It has faded to green and a little brown on the tips. Thanks
What does it mean if the flower turns green instead of brown? Does it mean it is dying or too much water?
My daughter gave me one of these for Mother's Day...I thought the pink quill was the flower. I am trying to figure out a way to propagate the pups and keep the mother alive. Is it possible?
Hello, my plant's color has faded. What can ı do about it and why it's happening?
Does it highly scented flower. ?
Reminds me of my cat she doesn't like the sound of those duster spray cans used to dust computer key boards 🙀 😼 😾 😺
You mentioned that these plants do not live long. How long is their expectancy?
Thank you!
They will live as long as you take care of them, and grow more of themselves. That's why this strain all looks exactly the same haha.
I know it's 6 years old this vid but. I was hoping tobget advice about mine that the very middle new shoots from it's center and from it's pups seem dry or browned...I thought it was too dry so increased water a tiny bit and now I'm not sure if It needs more or less....all the other succulents and cacti in the same bed are perfect tho. Internet thinks not humid enough so put a bag over the middle quill forming area to see if that helps or not 🤦♂️🤷♂️...I really wanted a new flower this summer.....it lived fine from last summer.i cut the dry as a bone flower from last summer in like this January.
Hi. I have a question. Mine has broken in the middle. Errm... a little accident. What can I do? I will never discard it. Does it regenerate?
Hi Fabio - Not sure if you mean the flower or the plant. Nell
hello! mine is a year old and has another plant coming from it. the mother plant "fan" already died and iv tried watching other videos for what i should do and the videos iv seen are them just ripping them apart and that scares me. what do you think i should do to separate the pup from the mother?
Separate it or leave it as it is, because it will eventually fade and give way to the new pups
The quill part of my tillandsia dried up a few months after i bought it. The plant has been growing pretty big (its been a year). Any idea if a pup will grow?
M X if I were you I would check the soil for pups. Mine produced two in six months of me buying it. When I repotted it I found the pups
I have one of these and did not know what it was, the quills died off soon after I was given it, and it did not flower again for about 3 years. It has now (in the same pot with no attention at all) given 5 or 6 quills and 2 of them are happily flowering for the last 6 weeks. So don't worry, as long as it's not dead maybe it's just biding its time!
I’m de-pupping my Till Cyanea and need help! Do I let the pup dry out for a bit or pop it right in the soil ?
Child of Persia I’m wondering the same thing!!
They don’t need soil!! They can survive just off of water and the nitrogen from the air!
Can you put it outside in the shade or it is just an indoor plant?
Yes, you can.
Hi there, I bought this plant online, but the quill came green instead of pink. What does it mean? Could it be a new quill or is it in the dying stage? Basically, when the quill first appear what would be its colour?
I would like to know too. My plant is also green😮
I have a question about pencil cactus. Can you help me?
Yes Monica. Nell
💚💚💚💚💚💚
My leaves at the base are dying!! Help!!
2:04 that kitty in the background!
I use rainwater
I have filter water
LOL!! Spatula and a porcupine
creepy crawly kitty at 2:12 bottom left
My cat keeps eating my pink quill, and then it slowly dies :(
Thanks for clarifying. I thought either a cat or an Arizona rat.
So distracted by cat
What is the matter with her, is she dronk or just trying to be funny
