It’s a most difficult day indeed when the people who are SUPPOSED TO BE on your side leaves you flapping in the breeze, and lies and cheats to you, especially those fast talking politicians who really, truly DON’T give a damn about you and yours, only caring for themselves and theirs.

This wasn’t a corporate culture mentality. Very few of these sites are. You must know the minimal regulations in place back then. Companies would ask the fed what to do with waste, and all too often the answer was simply seal it in barrels and bury it on site. That’s why the superfund exists. You cannot legally go back and hold a company accountable when they followed gov guidance. Sucks, but there it is. The far worse atrocity is when local elected city government officials, our own local folks, declare that residential housing can be built on top of dump sites.

Yeah for goodness sake! Why’s everybody so upset. It’s all in the name of capitalism. At its finest.

My mother was Joann Hale, she was one of the women who helped start the Love Canal Environmental Movement with Lois Gibbs and Pat Brown. She was pregnant with me when the chemicals started leaking and people were getting sick. We lost our house there, it was demolished, the area was then fenced in... So much trauma..

The US government passed the legislation that a) created the organisation that sites to be identified up the sites and b) forced polluting corporations to foot the bill. So yes, the government was/is a blessing in this specific case.

@@richardwarner3705 OK, so the US Federal Government didn't respond to these contamination scandals by creating the EPA and the Superfund? OK. I must be misinformed. Please explain what happened in reality. Thanks!
