How to Replace and Time a Nissan TD42 Injector Pump - May also work for some Toyotas

- For the last 2 years I have struggled with the tuning on my GU Patrol after swapping out the ZD30 engine for a TD42 and purchasing an 11mm injector pump on the cheap.
Every time I tried to set the timing I just seemed to make it worse, it would blow smoke and run hot with EGT's getting too high too quick.
I finally stumped up the money for a UFI 11mm pump from Patrol a Part www.patrolapart.com.au and have finally got around to fitting it up and getting the timing done.
Because I am doing this with the engine in the car there is a bunch of disassembly work that needs to be done just to be able to get to the pump, but once it is done it is a fairly straight forward process as long as you have the right tool to do the job.

So follow along as I try not to screw this up.
I believe the timing process will be the same for Toyota diesels that have a rotary injection pump.

Is there a filter ( gauze one ) around the bolt where the fuel line connects to pump that comes from the fuel filter.

Not on my truck there wasn't.
This engine came out f a GQ so I'm not sure if GQ and GU were the same.

How do you find this pump? Looking at putting one on my GQ TD42 silver top with after market turbo and cross country top mount.

I have been driving the Patrol for a couple of weeks now and I have been very happy with this pump.
The mid range stumble I was experiencing with the other pump is gone and she’s making plenty of power and vroom vroom noises.
I’m still yet to get it on a dyno but my backside tells me she goes real good.

@@HarrysBigShed hi mate eny smoke coming out from the exhaust when you give it some coz iam thinking if I need to do my injectors or pump I have black smoke when plant it in 2 and third and when cold it miss on lil revs nice content mate 👍🍻
Why is it that no one else has this stupid little pick up sump pump thing at the bottom preventing any sort of tool getting at that bottom nut? Do I really have to pull the motor strip it down to nothing or would it be better to bin the car in a big bomb fire?

Playing with the timing is a bit of mucking around, but as I have shown in the video, it is doable.

Have same problem what did you end up doing
@@LachieCooper-d7iyou have to pull the vac pump out to get to the bottom bolt. Once thats out easy as piss.
@@rileyhodson8719 yep. The little gear on it is plastic so be careful you don't damage that or you could end up with a broken motor

It would probably be cheaper for you to buy a paperweight at your local Officeworks than to get your hands on this dodgy pump of mine.
