The precats dont brake from aging, they brake over time when getting in contact with burned oil (due to bad piston ring design on pre and facelift model). They last a very long time (longer than anybody would drive that car).
Wish I’d seen this guide sooner, just bought myself one a couple weeks ago. It’s got some dodgy rust on the front chassis uprights where the control arms mount, I’ve had a look today and doesn’t seem structurally compromising but definitely bad in places. I guess the best plan of action is the usual underside rust treatment? I’m sure it could be welded if needed but I guess that type of work isn’t a cheap bill?
I am sure its all fixable. You should be able to find a decent welder that isn't to expensive. I don't think the location is hard to get to. Good luck with it an hope you enjoy it!
