Charlie is one Great player!! ... He speaks of Spider John Koerner. I hung with Koerner in '72 - In Copenhagen. I feel old very listening to this new folk wave generation of player .. who sadly are several generations away from the source (but thanks to old vinyl and UA-cam can find what took us years and lots of miles to dig up). I was truly lucky enough in my time to know Jean Ritchie, Frank & Anne Warner (check out their collection at the library of Congress), I got to open up for Sam Chatman (Mississippi Sheiks), Pink Andersen, The Balfa Brothers, Lester Flatt, Jimmy Martin, Bill Monroe ... recorded the then very old mt. fiddle, dulcimer & banjo folks who's family's had been there forever (not transplants). Heck, one of my best buddies was Rev. Gary Davis' driver. Those were times! But thanks to people like Charlie Parr and the players, String Bands, etc - those times live on!
where do you live? i'm a traveling folk singer and i'd like to meet you

Charlie is for sure the real deal, and totally an approachable guy - none of that pretentious BS we get from most people who experience a smidge of fame. Long live him, I say!
Yep, and if you send him an email he gets right back to you! Really nice guy.
this guy is inspirational
No pretensions, no fashion, no nothing else than these goddamn good sound, i'm very lucky for hear this. More of this
Saw this guy at the Kelly Joe Phelps show when Parr came through Seattle. Had never heard of this guy before but have been listening since. This guy knows how to put on a damn good show. Beginning to end, there was so much energy, and all he did was sit there and play and sing. Blew me away. This man and his music is amazing.
Thank you Mr. Parr
Sitting here with my jaw dropped mumbling holy sh!t. This is incredible.
once again, you've made my day KEXP. Absolutely love Charlie Parr.
This man made me pick up a resonator.
I'm not rich enough for one 🤣
But he DID get me interested in learning about open tuning
🤘❤️🤘
He plays for free every Wednesday night at a local brewpub in Duluth, Minnesota. He is one of the many things that makes the Head of the Lakes a great place to live.
Real music from the deep soul.
I'm seeing him tonight in the Netherlands. For the first time! So excited!
Jesus told the woman at the well, I have a well too that once you drink from you'll never thirst again. That well is God's wisdom the feminine principle of our Creator, the virgin untouched by man. Through her all Creation was brought into being.
Real music comes from the people that live it and breath it and Charlie is real people. Thanks for sharing your music and your talent with us!
Parr is an American LEGEND
Late night .. love tis kind of singing und picking very much. Thanks!
I'm living the jubilee I'm 49 turning 50 this year yessir
Charlie Parr i twój dzień staje się piękniejszy.
I can't believe the man's formidable skill and talent aren't apparent to you.
Sad to say I never heard about Charlie Parr...as of today I am a fan. Makes me want to learn to play...
This music is amazing.
Glad I stumbled upon this man's art.
seen this guy with my sister 3 weeks ago at the red sky bar Mankato mn.... very good
Fantastic!!!
yeah, finally, a resurgence!!! it's been awhile charlie,
so thank you!!
Wow!
Terrific.
Used to watch CharParr play on Wednesday nights in Duluth like it was no big deal. No cover charge, just him spitting out song after song just to draw in a crowd to the Brewhouse and sell beer.
+Peter Stauduhar I watched him do just that this last Wednesday to celebrate the Brewhouse's 20th anniversary.
Yep same thing watched him play fitgers. Worked across the street from him when he was working adult homeless and I was working at Lifehouse. Glad to see he is getting the recognition he deserves.
Sounds great- looking forward to your next visit to Atlanta, Charlie!
good job man!! amazing song
amazing!
thankyou very much for this
Talent.
pretty good, man. thanks!
I saw him play live and the very obscure eerie 1920s blues sound was very strong
Old is game !
Amen heavenly father your will
"I was all amped up on yerba mate!"
Wow.
The boat motor story is endearing...especially the "good for trolling" part.
lol i was going to write almost the same comment. Exactly, another awesome performace.
elliott smith brought me here and I am so grateful
For the people who think he is some yuppie poser, believe me he is not. I live in Minnesota as well. He grew up without a tv and listened to old blues and americana. He is legit as hell
people think he's a poser? i know folk music posers, this ain't one of em.
charlie parr mentioned john fahey! nice!!

Come on OMG
fuck yes!
Close your eyes. Pretend it's 1927.
What a maniac. Its like metal but with a slide on an acoustic.
Dude can play! My neurons just don't fire that fast. Wish they did.
I prefer the mule he plays now. It sounds so much fuller. It's a beautiful instrument.
Fully agree. And I'm chuckling, cause I don't believe in any religions per se, but certainly in higher powers...and they shine through Charlie when he goes to town.
10/10 wb
ok
Wo ist Parish Smith
Why go to church when the lord shines through Charlie and his guitar?
He said he was up in Yerba Mate?
Haha se canso de tomar mate !
what's the name of that instrument?
tanks
At 14:03, the interviewer gets a look in his eye. That "I'm about to witness something unforgetable -- I'd better back off this mic a bit." look.
What tuning is this??
Drop P
@ wow.
Where's the stomp box?!?!?
is he playing in open G?
Jim Rustles Looks and sounds more like open D to me
+Panama Man You can tell how a guitar's tuned just by looking at it! Wow...
+Panama Man you're right it's D tuning
+John Taylor It's by the typical chord patterns of a tuning
John 4
In the Bible? Please explain, I'm interested in your comment, I know he is spiritual for sure, God gave him his gifts, doesn't happen all that often like this, shoot I'll go read it,he spreading the word, so never mind, I know now
+deborahkauffman09 yes, it's the story about Jesus and the woman at the well
I absolutely love Charlie Parr
