Just a little note: This is the first game in the series to be rated M. The previous two were rated T.
Would a volume 4 not be worthy of such a rating?
Is this the first M rated Nintendo first party? I am not talking about published games
@@theakiwar9118I believe it is, at least the first one wholly developed by Nintendo (they did help with Fatal Frame and Bayonetta entries)
@@theakiwar9118 GoldenEye 007 is M rated in Japan, and Perfect Dark is a former second-party game with an M rating everywhere. Eternal Darkness and Geist are M rated titles considered second-party. But otherwise, it might depend on whether or not pre-CERO Japan exclusives count.

This is an intelligent move by Nintendo. Make people talk about it then reveal it’s a brand new entry of a dormant franchise that has had remakes fairly recently on Switch. Great to see FDC be put in the forefront once more!
AND!! It goes to show that Nintendo values smaller AA releases alongside their huge AAA franchises. This is a healthy strategy and a sustainable one at that. There is variety for everyone in the Nintendo ecosystem too.
YES!
It’s such a breath of fresh air compared to Sony and Microsoft. Everything has to be a large open world game that we learn about years and years in advance. Everything over there feels so boring.
All throughout the Switch, Nintendo has shown that they value their AA IPs as well. It’s why we got the Another Code remakes earlier this year.
@@paperluigi6132 Nintendo also has insane variety. Sony feels like at times all they release are open world or action adventure games.
Nintendo just in the past couple years has now with this announcement had so many different styles of games and genres. Even just in the past couple of years alone they’ve released or are planning to release: A new Mario Party, F-Zero 99, Another Code, Endless Ocean, Luigi’s Mansion 2, DKC Returns, Thousand Year Door, Mario RPG, Brothership, TOTK, Echoes of Wisdom, Pikmin 4, WarioWare, Mario Wonder, Metroid Prime Remastered, Mario vs. DK and Peach Showtime.
Like the amount of variety and number of titles is insane. And that’s just in the past 2.5-ish years. Not only is that not everything Nintendo has published, but it’s ignoring the massive library of games they’ve released in the earlier part of the switch lifecycle.
Whereas after nearly 4 years, Sony has published around 30 PS5 games, and almost all of them are also available on PS4 or PC.
I am a little bummed that this isn’t Nintendo’s attempt at a RE-style horror game, but nonetheless, this game does indeed look interesting!
This was absolutely the best way to announce it. If they just went out and said it was Famicom Detective Club from the start much less people would be interested. But by releasing the mysterious teaser they hyped it up enough for people new to the series to actually be excited!
They gave us a little mystery to get invested in
Agreed! I haven't played the first games in the series but this marketing really has me interested in trying them out now
Yeah its kinda reminded me like the exact reaction to when a game trailer showed up when Fans are excited and the game ended upp being worse, Just how Sonic Forces was.
@@Catty-Crash Why do you think the game is worse?
too bad i dont care about visuals novels at all so my excitement went down real quick butnim happy for everyone else
“Playable Ayumi for the first time in the series!” Guess we’re never getting that remake of the Satellaview game where she was the SOLE protagonist. 😔
But still, I’m on board! Enjoyed the remakes in spite of the Famicom era rough edges they retained. It’s easy to see why people would be disappointed, VNs don’t have THAT mass appeal, in spite of how beloved stuff like Ace Attorney and Steins;Gate are.
If it WAS gonna be a new horror IP then yeah that would’ve been great, but for me I probably wouldn’t have checked it out myself and would’ve just watched other people’s playthroughs.
There was a satelleview game?
@@novustalks7525Yes but only in Japan back in 1997 for the Super Famicom. The game was called, BS Tantei Club: Yuki ni Kieta Kako. BS stands for “Broadcast Satellite” or something like that.
@@l.j.nguyen2586 ah right. The same with the original link to the past sequel
Emio looks like a Batman villain.
Because of Scarecrow?
@stevenh.2459 Batman has battled with so many creepy and missed up villains over the years. So Emio wouldn't be out of place aside villains like Screwcrow, Zsasz and Professor Pyg.
He looks like JOKER from Persona 2 Eternal Punishment.
It’s pretty interesting that Nintendo is taking their chances with a new game in the Famicom Detective Club series and the first time that Nintendo themselves is making a Mature rated (and it’s equivalent everywhere else) game. I got both of the Famicom Detective Club remakes and enjoyed them both. I wonder how they would continue it after The Missing Heir.
Ayumi Tachibana: You expected Eternal Darkness, but it was me, Tachibana!
Also this role means she might actually have a chance of being playable in Smash like Sakurai wanted in _Melee._
I hope so. I have wanted Ayumi in Smash for years after seeing her trophy in Melee and a cool Deviantart moveset conspect for her. And I finally got play and finished Missing Heir and The Girl Who Stands Behind a couple of years ago when the remakes came out and I absolutely fell in love with the series. I can't believe we are getting a sequel and I'm excited to play it.
The prospect of a playable Ayumi hurts my head in a good way.
@@retrogamermax8287 It would be interesting to get a detective-based character in Smash. That in itself leads to interesting concepts for movesets.
That would be cool (she can be a visual novel rep).
The return of Ayumi Tachibana. Emio can be her final smash.
Now that you bring it up Ayumi tachibana actually getting a fully new game definitely raises her chances to be in smash now. She was even supposedly considered for Melee for a bit too. And we also did got the remakes which is also nice. As for Smiling man yeah it could work as a final smash but I could see him even being an assist trophy possibly, or even a full on character tho am more doubtful on that. Ayumi would probably be the character to represent the series.
I really wish we could get a new Custom Robo in the next direct for bothe the series' sake but also so it can get at least one character in smash.
How can you make a visual novel character into a fighter in Smash anyway? I am genuinely curious.
@@BigBrotherGnE Well first of all it depends on the visual novel character. For example let’s hypothetically say Saber from Fate stay night got into smash. She is a swords woman and has some magical skills; mostly wind and light magic stuff. For her the moveset potential is already obvious with this details alone.
Secondly, Marvel vs capcom 3 made Phoenix wright from Ace attorney have a really creative moveset. Ayumi herself could probably have a few similar ideas to Phoenix wright for her moveset. But also fun fact she apparently uses a Naginata as a weapon for like a school club training, I could see her using that for some smash attacks at the very least. Her other parts of her moveset would probably be swinging her bag and a gimmick related to different murder or investigation items.
And thirdly Sakurai has made characters before with a lack of moveset potential like ROB which is just a real life toy. Am sure he can be more than creative enough to give Ayumi or other visual novel characters a fun moveset.
@@Wallie33. - I think the latter two examples are excellent explanations, especially with Phoenix Wright. However, I think with Phoenix Wright and the series, the personalities seemed a bit more animated (like usual anime tropes of exaggerated responses), so it contributed to that move-set. I am not so sure if the characters in FDC really had the same sort of animated personality to give off such a thing.
But, as you said, they were able to make the character work in UMvC3, so perhaps with Sakurai, he could find some defining character traits with Ayumi to be part of the next Smash game.
Calling it now; Emio's gonna be an Assist Trophy in the theoretical next Smash Bros.
Not a new IP, but it's still amazing to see such an obscure Nintendo franchise return.
Was hoping this would be a psychological horror game but I’m still excited because this is the first ever M rated game made by Nintendo
Depends. The remakes were made by Mages.
Also I think there were some M rated games made directly by Nintendo back during the GameCube Era. Geist and maybe Eternal Darkness but I'm not 100% sure if the second one was an exclusive or not.
@shanegiorgio4713 it was but only published by nintendo, not developed by them, instead by Silicon Knights
@@bloodyroses4664 Nintendo published them and helped make them but mainly through giving them ideas on how to do it and what to do. Ironically both companies ended up shutting down but Nintendo owns the rights to both Eternal Darkness and Geist. Hopefully one day we will see a sequel of them. Maybe like Famicom Detective Club it will first require a rerelease of the first games to get those sequels
Don’t forget Zangeki no Reginleiv. While it’s not released internationally, it has equivalent of an M rating by the CERO.
I was not expecting this to be a new Famicom Detective Club game!
Still hoping the 2021 remakes get a physical release...
I have to admit, Nintendo had us all fooled last week there. I really thought it was a new horror game.
I’m generally not a fan of the anime-like characters in games but I _might_ make an exception.
Given how many great games have anime artsyles, I'd say give this one a try. Might open up a whole new world for you!
This definitely seems like the better anime styles. I am not interesting in the stock anime style that is often used.
i think its great to embrace anime art styles as a nintendo fan- so many amazing series like zelda and fire emblem use them afterall, its just a general nintendo style at this point
I don't think you know what "anime-like characters" are... You do realize that the majority of Nintendo games use anime inspired art-styles, right...?
@@Teddingtin yes, and I don’t buy them lol
I wasn’t expecting a full reveal so soon, the teaser trailer made it seem like one of those games that would have taken either a year or two for more news or a full reveal trailer.
Thank God for no jump scares. I though for sure this messed up game would parazlye my sleep. Thank God it's not a scary game either.
Who said there can't be jump scares in a visual novel?
@@JonLeung1DDLC and other horror genre VNs enter the chat.
Higurashi says hi
Doki Doki Literature Club had a fair share of Jumpscare, literally the first horror aspect the game greets you with is a jumpscare of Sayori "hanging out"
Don't let your guard down
Bravest Nintendo fan.
Time for brain power and social skill to successful sleuth this detective game.
I absolutely love the Famicom Detective Club games, but I'm honestly disappointed it wasn't a Nintendo horror game
Sad it's not a new realistic horror IP, but hey, good for this series and its fans.
That trailer absolutely going to move units. I've been wanting to get into this series, but have been waiting for a sale. Not once since 2021 has any of the detective club games gone down in price since its launch 😂 maybe one day..
FAMICOM DETECTIVE CLUB?! YES!!
I was expecting something like Eternal Darkness... Nintendo, bring Eternal Darkness to Switch!
I should try the series. I like mystery horror!
Same here, maybe the collection will go on sale
Recommended!
I was expecting them to go with a original game like Eterbal Darkness
If I’m being honest, I was hoping this would have been a new Ip, something like Ghost wire Tokyo but this is just as great! If it sells well maybe we can get more.
Nintendo did a smart for making us think this was an original game, when in reality this was another game of a dormant franchise, that they brought back the Famicom Detective Club once more is amazing.
people being mad its not a new ip is so odd to me cause i couldve sworn everyone was JUST complaining about how "nintendo never acknowledges their older series" 🤔
Sure, Star Fox, FZero, Kid Icarus. Not some snooze fest graphic novel
Prepare for other companies flooding the market with horror visual novels once this game becomes popular.
Anything that's Nintendo related that gains traction, others will follow.
That is really big, seeing the series Return is huge, I'm exicted!
what i’m confused about is why the hell is it still called famicom detective club
I expected something more realistic looking, but it's Nintendo, lol
Oh... THAT kind of gameplay😕
Thanks but... no thanks.
this is emio, mamma mia
Visual novels ain't my cup of tea, but the Emio tease trailer piqued my interest.
I'll definitely watch a playthrough of this in the future.
Disappointed
I am glad this isn't Bloobers Switch game
So, my gut reaction was correct.
I DID have a reason to feel literally nothing for this game.
why, because you don't care for visual novels or because anime or what?
@@squiddu Nah, I didn't care about it since that first reveal trailer. When we still didn't know what it even was.
I instantly knew it was gonna be nothing huge that I'd take interest in.
I was also expecting a high budget new horror IP by Nintendo, but I really enjoyed the FDC games so I'll gladly take it.
Laaaaaaame. Why would they do a realistic looking teaser for an anime style visual novel, i assumed it would be a true 3d horror game from nintendo
The fact that it's not a horror game itself is a jumpscare
Famicom Detective Club are classified as a horror series, just not survival horror.
It's still horror, Just visual novel horror
Now I want to see Ayumi Tachibana as a playable character in Smash 6 (now she can join Smash after failing to be part of Melee's fighter roster).
My guess: Her moveset can incorporate visual novel and forensic elements.
These comment sections are the biggest Nintendo meat riders I’ve ever seen it’s insane😂 I love Nintendo and they take up most spots on my favourite games but this announcement was a COLOSSAL disappointment lol. The hype of a new horror IP just to be another generic looking anime switch game. Hype gone.
I WAS curious about Emio, but visual novels aren't really my thing. I'm part of the group who thought it would be a new IP, so I AM mildly disappointed.
I mean it might as well be a new IP considering they haven't made a new one since a large chunk of their fanbase has been alive
Bruh all this hype up for a fucking visual novel......
Hater gonna hate.
Clearly never played either of the previous two games.
In the back of my mind I was thinking this maybe Famicom Detective Club because of the remakes a few years back and this Emio kind of had that feel to it. But I wasn't sure if Nintendo would want a new game in the Famicom series because Famicom is the name of an old system or if they did do a new game call it Nintendo Detective Club.
A new Famicom Detective Club? Good to know.
"We finally no what emio is" it was hinted at like 4 days ago.hardly been a long wait.
My left hand will hug luigi while playing this
Give Luigi a great big hug! 🤗💯
Interesting. I also thought it was going to be a new horror IP, even though that would not necessarily jive with Nintendo's typical repertoire. I'm kind of glad they're not going down that road, though.
I’ve never really been interested in these types of games.. but this seems interesting…
Its not what i was expecting as i wasnt expecting a new famicom detective club game, but im 100% going to getthis day 1, i love VN and the first 2 they remade were fantastic
I haven't finished the first two games yet, and i really wanna see this one!
Wow... what a huge letdown. Not that it isn't cool to have a new entry, but there was so much potential for a new IP that could have been something really special.
Special like what?
@@marcheharvey2301 Like Nintendo trying their hand at another new horror IP for the first time since the early 2000s. The idea was interesting based on the teaser and they could have done something way more with it.
I'm less excited about it now, but it's actually really interesting that Nintendo is willing to take an existing IP into M-rated territory.
Not everything has to be a new IP. Besides, the Famicom Detective Club games influenced series like Ace Attorney and Professor Layton. They're great novel detective games and you should give them a try if you haven't.
@@retrogamermax8287 It comes down more to how cool of a standalone idea this could have been. Especially with how they went about the marketing. It's not against FDC, I even said it's cool that it's making a comeback with a new game. But the hype was so high that this outcome is disappointing specifically because of it.
How did we get a new Famicom Detective before MOTHER 3!?
That's really disappointing
“Mystewius teaser” cutie
Never heard of this series but yeah okay, I'll look into it!
On one hand, it's wild that Famicom Detective Club got a new sequel and that both the original and newer fans have something to look forwaed to. On the other hand, it's extremely disappointing that this isn't a new IP. This reveal was surprising, but for all the wrong reasons
I knew it was going to be an underwhelming announcement Nintendo would definitely do something like this
Underwhelming?! Have you played the Famicon Detective Club games??
If you’ve played one anime visual novel you’ve played em all.
I was hoping for something like an actual horror game. Perhaps even survival horror. Many people were even hoping for it to be this generation's "Eternal Darkness". Instead it's a pixel art visual novel. That is such a waste of a creepy teaser.
@stevenh.2459 sorry I prefer actual games not glorified virtual books
I can definitely see why people are annoyed. As it does feel like a bit of a bait and switch. A small part of me is dissapoijted as well,.
But I'm glad to see them give an older IP a new entry regardless! Yet to play the series, but it's cool to see it have a new entry!
Nintendo talks about Emio what's a new game coming in august before Halloween now that made me happy and smiling like The Smiling Man! 😁
Who's protagonist in Emio
I called it!
Seems interesting
I went from not caring at all to caring a lot. I played the other 2 games and they were great if a bit rooted in NES over obfuscation. A new game in the series could be great.
Well this is highly disappointing, like the idea and was hoping to see what a Nintendo horror IP would be about. I'm still slightly interested but not enough to get into Famicom Detective Club
This was destined to disappoint. So overhyped. I am surprised this wasn't mentioned in the direct though
noone would've said a damn thing beyond the announcement if it was in the direct
Speak for yourself. I thought the marketing was interesting, but I have absolutely no interest in horror games. But I love visual novels. This went from being just something I could appreciate existing for other people, to something I am now pretty hyped about! And I haven't even played either of the other 2 games.
Because your tiny brain doesn't care about visual novel games doesn't mean it's a disappointment. The remakes for those games were great, and what better to hype up a new entrie in a old franchise then with a 15 sec video with no description ?
That made both fans of the franchise and people unfamiliar with it interested, so shut up
I Though was New IP Coming 2025...
That’s interesting. I wonder if they wanted to mess with us by giving the hyper realistic trailer lol
I’m happy about it being this game especially since i’m not that into the horror genre so if it was a horror game i wouldn’t be interested in it
Famicom Detective Club is classified as a horror series, but it's not survival horror (thankfully). I'm a huge coward, but I managed to play FDC without getting too scared, so recommended!
I don't play the Famicon Dectective Club games, but it's cool to see it come back after all these years.
oh...it's...a book....
Sorry it's not an adult anime girl game. Now, look sad at your inflatable girlfriend and go cry in the corner. 🥺💩🧠🚫🤪
I dont know this franchise tbh so you can read my disappointment (not saying the franchise is bad i was expecting something else cause the teaser was up to speculation)
Honestly this was the best way to build up excitement for the game
Bruh if its going to be a visual novel game, thats dissapointing. I hoped it would be horror action game
What's wrong a visual novel game? The Ace Attorney series is a great example of a beloved mystery murder investigation visual novel series.
@@TayoEXE it's just a really niche genre that does not appeal to everyone by a longshot, while the initial reveal was so vague it really could've been anything
