  • Electronic Combat (EK) is a key capability to ensure the success of military operations. It focuses on efforts to control and exploit the electromagnetic spectrum for the benefit of friendly forces, while denying that advantage to adversaries.
This is where 'luWES'(Airborne Effects in the Electromagnetic Spectrum) comes into play: it acts as an integrated strategy to counter enemy air defences. ‘luWES’ works with several subsystems: The stand-off jammer (SOJ) disrupts the enemy’s communications network. The escort jammer (ESJ) provides direct protection to fighter jets against enemy air defences. Stand-in jammers (SIJ) operate within anti access/area denial zones and force the enemy to react.
The luWES system of systems solution integrates airborne systems, ground stations and the EK competence center.

Funnily enough, in Indonesia, luwes means flexibility of the body movement (usually used in dancing context) which somehow fits the weapon description.
