6:45 I NEVER knew the Limerick Power plant actually caused people to leave their homes near the plant. That's actually depressing. I live in Royersford and mostly grew up in Oaks PA and always wondered what it was like living near the power plant. I know people in Limerick protested the plant being built in the mid 1970s.

Great coverage love your Pennsylvania coverage. FYI Steel Mills in the Mon Valley closed in the late 70s not just because of foreign steel imports but environmental regulations here in the US could not be easily met by mills build in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Whereas after the World War II we helped Japan and Germany rebuild their industrial infrastructure which gave them more environmentally friendly Steel Facilities.
One Ghost Town you drove thru and probably didn’t even realize was Wehrum, there on Wehrum Road as you drove to Vintondale. I remember seeing the old elementary school (where my mom and uncle went to school) back on left heading east on Wehrum Road toward Vintondale.

My paternal grandmother grew up in Vintondale. It is one of the towns along the Ghost Town Trail in Cambria and Indiana counties. I grew up near there and attended the Wehrum school the last 3 years it was open. Grandma would tell stories of Wehrum and the nice hotel they had. In the early 70s, you could see the foundations of many buildings/houses, but the only standing structures then were the school and the 3 or 4 houses near it. One of my school classmates and her family lived on a farm near Dilltown which included the ghost (mining) town of Scott Glen. I have no idea if anything remains of it today.

PA is full of little secrets about secluded back waters. I also have one. Its a lost town called Bly Town in McKean County, PA near Turtlepoint. It was the first settlement town of various immigrant folk who moved south from NY state and beyond after the completion of the Erie canal. Working from North to South they settleed "Bly Town" as a "base camp". From there they settled the surrounding areas. Bly Town has long since been reclaimed by the forest but its still out there somewhere.

The people in yellow dog probably didn't call it that. The people that lived there made an agreement with the mine not to join a union. That agreement was called a yellow dog contract. Those agreements or contracts became illegal in the early 1930s.

I was born and raised in McKeesport. We moved away when I was 14, right before things started to go south. My dad worked in the steel mills until he got too sick and had to take early retirement. The city I remember was shown in these pics. It was a thriving, bustling city. A little tough and gritty, too. I’m glad we got out in time.

What people don't realize about Pennsylvania, is that 75% of the state is like one of it's neighbors, West Virginia. Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and sever smaller cities make up the majority of the population.
I've been to the Alvira bunkers. Its actually a state gamelands and i went hunting there with my friend. Its an erie place. We felt a little uncomfortable the whole time there. There's also an old cemetery there and it also borders the prison property. Theres alot of bad stuff that goes on in some of those bunkers. Game wardens have some bone chilling stories of paranormal stuff they've encountered.

Ugh Now they are saying about yellow dog. My sister and her ex and kids used to live there. The town was shut down from an issue with the well water. salmonella was the issue and people were forced to move out. The reason he gives in this video isn't correct.

@@travelawaitsyou The town was supplied by well water. They said a snake got in the well and it rotted contaminating the well. The same person owned the whole town and rented the homes out. It's very close to Worthington Pennsylvania. I have a sister Mindy who used to live there with her ex and two sons. The rent was fairly reasonable.
