Why didn’t I think of that 😆, cutting and folding in a tab ?😱 So much easier to hand close!!!!!! You are the only one I have seen stuff the corners with batting. 🥰 Love the ladder stitch. Such a great job, thank you for taking time out of your weekend.🥰
What a great idea to leave that extra fabric at the opening. I always trim to 1/4 or 3/8th inch and then struggle to get a nice edge. Thank you for this tutorial. xx
So glad I found you. I love your tutorials ! I want to finish a pillow ornament like this . The ladder stitch was easier to see than others I have watched. Thanks for all the tips and tricks❤️
What a great tutorial! I've never seen the ladder stitch before an this makes it more possible for me to do smalls to fill a trench bowl! That is something I've wanted to do for a while. Thank you so much for this! Have a great weekend Artie 🙂
Arttie you are the first tutorial when you trim keep a tab in the opening. How much easier to sew the opening close. Enjoyed all the tutorials, they are wonderful. Walk in Peace.
That is a beautiful finish. I will be trying your technique. I have several finishes to do. I like your stuffing method. I always have a problem getting my stuffing right. I love these videos. Your camera shots are excellent. You show how it is suppose to look. People that are visual learners appreciate that. Thank you
I have watched heaps of cross stitch cushion tutorials but never seen the techniques you used. I really like the ladder stitch and flaps to allow you to sew the fabric together. Thank you
Thank you - with my next pillow I will be cutting a tab out because I can see that it makes it a lot easier to sew up the pillow. Keep up with your tutorials too!
I don't usually comment much, but I had to pop in and say I am loving these tutorials! Now that I've seen you do a pillow with the ladder stitch, I have to go back and take apart a pillow that I whip stitched and re-stitch it with the ladder stitch. It looks so much neater, and I like it much better than the method with the slit in the back. Thank you!
Great job! I never thought of leaving a tab of extra fabric at the closing area - I've always had to fiddle with that 1/4" fold of fabric, not anymore, thanks to you! I'll have to go back to watch your other tutorial(s) to learn more about why you stuff the corners with quilt batting. As I sit here and think about it, it would make sense to me that it would give the corners additional structure - I've had difficulty with achieving nice structure in my corners with using just fiber fill. I'll be trying that trick as well. Thank you so much - have a blessed day! ☺️
Wonderful Tutorial Artie! What a beautiful finish! What I have started doing when I sew the back to front, at the opening, I don't backstitch and cut the thread. I pivot 90 degrees and sew off the 1/4" on both start and finish. That way I don't have the "pulling stitching" when I hand sew to close. It also helps keep the "tabs" stuck inside the project better.
This tutorial was perfect! Now I think I can finish my ornaments myself. What a great idea to leave a tab at the top to perfect the closure! Thanks so much!
Thanks for the finishing tutorial. What a great idea to leave the tab at the opening for a neater finish. Such a nice ornament finish for the lovely stitched piece.
Loved your video, I've used this stitch for years and didn't know what it was called. Loved the way you did tab at the closing and will de finitely be using this method. Thank you for all your help.
Love the finish using the ladder stitch. I have never seen anyone leave the tab... great tip. I will have to give it a try. This finishing looks easier that the hole in the back with a patch🙂
Ty Ty for demonstrating the ladder shift, I'm sewing challenged, but think I can do That! Could you show a finish of a pillow or ornament with RIC rack or a plain trim? Thanks n keep the tutorials coming!
Great tutorial. Never knew about the ladder stitch, but will be my next stitch to secure my small pillows. Keep up the great shows, can't wait until next time.
Awesome tutorial! The tab is so clever, stuffing the corners with batting, brilliant. I will be doing this finish on my next project. Thank you for sharing!! 👏
The tab idea is genius. I’m always fighting with my small seam allowance. And your batting squares are such a good idea. They’re pretty big. About how big were they for that finish? Are you using quilting thread for the ladder stitch? Don’t remember if you said that. Thanks!

OMG how did you do that knot with your dark thread? That looked so easy.
I will try to remember to sho in tomorrow's video. 🥰
Great tutorial! How did you knot the dark thread? It looked like you knotted it before you cut it off the spool. I’ve never seen that before
I did knot it before I cut it off the spool. I will try and remember to show it in tomorrow's video.
The tab idea is genius. I’m always fighting with my small seam allowance. And your batting squares are such a good idea. They’re pretty big. About how big were they for that finish? Are you using quilting thread for the ladder stitch? Don’t remember if you said that. Thanks!
Just scraps of batting. Maybe 2" squares. Yes quilting thread. Something you can pull on.
Thanks Arttie! Quick question on the machine stitching part, any recommendation on needle size, thread type and stitch length?
I usually have a size 14 needle in the machine. That is a pretty basic size. Stitch length 2.5. Nothing fancy. 🥰
Thank you for sharing 😊
Great video love the pattern what is it called please
