  • Follow along as I made a basic pillow finish for my cross stitch. This video has no editing. I know some people like to see the process from start to finish in real time. You may want to skip ahead on some parts (like the sewing and pillow stuffing).
    Supplies I use:
    Pellon 950F fusible interfacing
    Mountain Mist Fiberfill
    Yarn
    Point Turner
    Wooden floss winder
    My email is eastcoast.crafter.me@gmail.com

    Thank you for the information. I love that you take the time to show people how to. I'm sticking with regular people on flosstube who are not trying to sell things. I've been burned by people like that. Stay normal and helpful.

    I just watched this again in preparation for some pillow finishing today. Thanks for all the great advice! I consider myself an intermediate sewist, but I NEVER considered that I could use the loop start with hand sewing. That is genius!

    Thanks for the tutorial. Not that anything shown was "wrong"...these are just options: 1) if backing fabric is heavy (ie, corduroy, velvets), take the corners off the interfacing before fusing onto one or both fabrics. 2) backing: especially if you have bias edges or find it troublesome to keep the closure area straight and neat (ie, using plaids turned for bias effect, stretchy fabrics). Lengthen machine stitch and stitch a generous length along the future closure area's seam line of both the decorative piece and backing before sewing up the pillow with a normal stitch length. Don't backstitch/lock either end of the basting line. You can use the machine basted stitch line to stabilize/mark the fold for pressing & seaming up. Could also optionally remove those longer basting threads after hand seaming up the closure opening. Happy Sunday!

    Thanks, Helen! I enjoy & appreciate all your tutorials. It's been a while since I've FFO'd a pillow finish and I have a couple projects needing to be done, so it's been helpful to watch your tutorial and be reminded of the steps. I'm going to try the closure idea shown by The Vintage Stitcher in her 1-30-2022 video re: the top/bottom closing for small pillows.

    Thank you for showing how to pull a thread on even weave and linen. I am always off a little no matter how careful I am. Pulling a thread will help me a whole lot. Thanks again. I also have a basic Brother. If you pull both your threads to the back of the machine before stitching you won’t get that clump of threads. Please tell your sister I love her Frank in Stitches mostly because Young Frankenstein is my favorite movie.

    Thank you for your tutorial, Helen. If you want to prevent threads tangling with you start sewing with your sewing machine, I would suggest you pulled backwards gently the two threads just when you start sewing and let them go when you have done three-four stitches (I watch you from Spain, sorry if I did not explain myself as English is not my first language).

    This was a great tutorial Helen! I have a simple Singer with I think 5 or so different stitches. The whole reason I learned to cross stitch in 8th grade was because I was so horrible at sewing LOL 🤣That was 45 years ago so now I am going to take my machine into the sewing store where my husband bought it for me and see if they can give me a class to master threading it and other skillsets I will need to do pillow finishes! I will have to try the new way you use the yarn, I had been doing it in a long piece. I really liked the tip about taking a thread out of the fabric to give you a straight line- would that work for framing as well? I always enjoy your tutorials they are always very helpful ♥️♥️♥️

    • @helend.flosstube
      @helend.flosstube  Рік тому

      It should work for framing! One heads up, if the edge of your fabric has salvage on it, start from that side. I think the floss I was pulling broke because it was held on too tightly on the other end.
