  • Recipe here: www.joyofbaking... Stephanie Jaworski of Joyofbaking.com demonstrates how to make Tiramisu. Tiramisu means "pick me up" or "carry me up", which probably refers to the jolt you get after eating espresso and alcohol laced ladyfingers. It is often called an 'Italian Trifle" because, like any trifle, it has layers. In this case, ladyfingers (finger-shaped cookies) are layered with a custard that has been mixed with mascarpone cheese.

I tried this recipe and it's lovely (as all her recipes usually are). A few tips for the newbies like me:
    1. Make sure to beat your cream cheese/ Mascapone cheese well before mixing with the custard. Mine was a little lumpy because I neglected this step.
    2. If you prefer something non-alcoholic, 1/8 of a cup of not-too-sweet apple juice as a substitute to the 1/4 cup of Marsala. I tried this and it worked quite well.
Thank you for this recipe, Stephanie! :)

    Hello Stephanie,
I found the idea of making a custard and mixing that with the mascarpone very exciting so I tried it. OMG, I can find no words to describe how much everybody loved it at the dinner party. I will never make Tiramisu the orignal way again, because this recipe beats everything!

I made this cake it turned out really delicious.. love the way you explain it 😊
When I took the cake overnight from fridge and putting it on a tray Custard started to flow like sauce all the way.. then kept in freezer and got it fixed.
Is it because I put more custard in each layer or because thickness of custard is very less or time to set is not enough
Can you please help me out
    Thank you 😊

Hi Stephanie, thanks for this wonderful recipe. It was the very first time I tried a tiramisu recipe and everybody loved it. Your instructions were very clear. Just one query..can we use instant coffee instead of brewed coffee, what would be the measurements?

    • @joyofbaking
      @joyofbaking  3 роки тому

You could use instant coffee. Typically you would use 1 to 2 teaspoons per 1/2 cup (120 ml) of water, depending on how strong you want the coffee flavor.

I have made this dessert for the very first time and it turned out great. As I mentioned earlier i went for a short cut using ready made vanilla custard and then follow your recipe as a guide. The taste of coffee wasn’t prominent, I should have made strong espresso. So my question is how much espresso or coffee powder should be added to 1and half cups water? It didn’t give specific measurements there but otherwise everything was perfect.

Hello Stephanie, first of all congrats for the great work and beautiful recipes you created and shared during the past few years! I watched your Tiramisu recipe and there are a couple of clarifications I find necessary:
    1) Italian Tiramisu doesn't use custard cream but a mixture of egg yolks, sugar and mascarpone cheese (no milk...)
    2) "Zabaione" as you said it's a mixture of egg yolks and sugar but doesn't need any cooking! It's made and eaten raw.
Having that said, your version looks amazing

I made this with Frangelico instead of Marsala or rum. Took one to work, and everybody loved it, but I thought it was a little "alcohol-y." Left the second one in the fridge for another 24 hours, and the alcohol had evaporated off until it had a great hazelnut flavor with just a small "spiritual" kick. Used homemade ladyfingers and homemade mascarpone. Very good dessert, co-workers keep asking me to make it again.

Thanks for this Stephanie. I love the idea of the Pastry Cream use and it taste OMG delicious. I made it in a 9 x 9----For one: I think I will tackle the making of my own Lady Fingers next time. The 'processed taste' of the store bought not bad---but not great either. Such a dessert deserves the time. It only lasted a full day and 1/2. I used Sweet Marsala in the custard and Kahlua to amp my Coffee. However, while the custard is very good, thick but smooth--I found the custard started getting somewhat 'grainy' by that half day. Do you know if I may have caused this in my process? Or what may have happen? Maybe something with the flour?

Good morning!! A very strange method.. I'm italian and here is how I do:
I mix mascarpone cheese with sugar very well, then I put inside 1 egg at time. I whip the white part of the eggs until it become like snow and then I add it in the other mixture. That's it! No cook! And the mascarpone cream become so dense!!! Oh! In the coffe I usually put some milk so that the taste is not too strong!
Well, I really love what you do so I'm going to try your versión of Tiramisù! :)

Hi stephanie, am just wondering if I can substitute the alcohol in both the coffee and the custard with some other liquid like what? or I just leave it out without any substitute?
