Sam wanted to have a “clean shop” before he started work on the engine that we are assembling for EMPI’s 2024 Engine Battle. He had some other projects that he wanted to get out of the way first though. Mainly getting our EMPI Unassembled Long Block, which he assembled into a long block, turned into a complete and running turn key engine. We filmed that whole process and those videos should be out soon. With those videos now “in the can” Sam can turn all of his focus here at work towards building the largest engine he has ever built, a 2234cc stroker! So with a pile full of high dollar parts including an EMPI 84mm Flanged Crankshaft, AA 92mm Thick Wall Stroker Pistons & Cylinders and EMPI 5.5” H-Beam Connecting Rods, Sam gets to work prepping the parts, checking clearances and doing all the extra leg work that is recommended whenever building a high performance engine. Sam is definitely out of his wheelhouse and is just going off of years of compiling information and advice from friends. Is Sam a go-to, all knowing engine builder? Absolutely not, so this will be an interesting series. Stay tuned to see what happens when someone gets thrown into an engine battle that is by no means an engine builder!

After I pulled a nut out of a piston and slapped it back together with a mismatched piston, a new cylinder and a quickly repaired head, it put down 149 horses and 150 torque. 44x37.5 valves and a FK8 cam.

We haven’t decided yet, it’s first going to EMPI to be run on their dyno on June 11th.

It’s a pretty mild build all things considered. Maybe 140-150 hp and 150-160 torque.
