I just picked up an old 40hp and there is just numbers no letters? I thought all VW motor had a letter or two with the numbers? Hey also it turns by hand but not all the way around? Could it be a valve stuck?
I found it. It's a D 1965 I think? 9443605. Getting ready to take it apart on the engine stand. it won't rotate a full 360 before it hits something inside by hand. No rainwater in this one or rust. Just an oil old motor. Can't wait to see what's hanging this up inside.
Looks like totally rebuilt motor. 1600 single port. YES PUT THE DOG HOUSE BACK ON.....you cant see that from the front. it will run cooler on those hot summer days on long drives and no you dont need the thermostat if your driving it in the summer. If you dont believe me check with laser temp to heads. If after 10 minutes running time on a low temp day like 40 degrees the heads are above 160 it is unnecessary to have a thermostat. 160 is a totally safe running temp for any engine. Put back on a good single port manifold and call it good. Maybe while it is apart port the exhaust. That is the weak point of a single port. single port exhaust has sharp small hole and needs to be dressed up. Then they run much better.
Leave the flywheel on to check endplay
Yes, the pro sorted that out for me LOL it has perfect endplay!
Yes, Dub gettin’ back into the Dub.
And messing things up at every step LOL
Leave the flywheel on to check the end play.
Looking good. A nice improvement
I would save that engine. You might need it some day.
I might...
Excellent!! Watching this was like a therapy for me 😅
👍 nice works get it running and gone
I would have keep the dog cooler fan shroud, set up.
Absolutely.
It just isn't right LOL it may be "better" but I also drive like a little old lady LOL
Looks great
Knackered....🤣 If it looks decent, runs decent, makes ya feel good - it's a good job then.
nice job.

Until 1966 (bug, buses may be different) engine numbers were just numbers, no letters.

@@DubWerks I assumed 😂
Oh good🤣 next time a type 4?
@@DubWerks sure, why not 😂
No offense but not sure how you can consider that a rebuild….
Refresh? I mean, I did take apart the things people do in a top end rebuild... I just reused them LOL
@@DubWerks lol, true!
You're not a mechanic, nah nah nah nah nah nah!
