Thank you for the stories and photos of Council Bluffs. I grew up there and five of my brothers and sisters were born there. All of my schooling was there including AL High School. My Dad got a new job, so we had to move to Arizona. The pictures and stories bring back so many wonderful memories. Thank you.

Glad you are enjoying Council Bluffs history... this town has some great stories to tell. Local lore has it Jesse James might have spent the night in CB before riding out with the gang to pull off his train robbery near Adair, Iowa; that Rock Island train left from Council Bluffs. However he was never in the Squirrel Cage Jail. There is a podcast that talks about the haunted aspect of the jail; you can find it at: accidentally-historic.simplecast.com/episodes/council-bluffs-squirrel-cage-ghosts

Isn't it disgusting how some people are so desperate for attention that they have to latch on to the mourning of celebrities, any way the can, to gain some.
Being the first prez assassinated you can imagine everyone trying to embellish the stories of the momentary seconds they may have had when actually meeting/seeing him.
