My Dad passed in 1999. We used to listen to this song and drive on the highway together. It fills me with hope and reminds me of him. I love this song.

I never cared for Steve Winwood's music (radio hits) during the 80's. I was too busy listening to heavy metal and hard rock. Then.....I found Traffic..... and some years later...... discovered Blind Faith and BOOM!!!! here I am. Yeah, you Can teach an old dog new tricks!! You're the man Steve, I just needed to hear where you had come from to see the light!
If you were born much earlier you would have started with Spencer Davis Group and Yardbirds then gone on to Traffic and Cream and might have avoided the Heavy Metal phase. Traffic knew how to play the silent pause as well as blast the amps at the same time. The later Heavy Metal bands were lost on this sophistication and simply filled the air with noise.
I'd be honored if some 80s fans would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performances of PURPLE RAIN by Prince and PRAYING FOR TIME by George Michael on my YT channel in tribute to 2 of the greatest vocalist-songwriters in music history. I read somewhere the intro was a mistake. The other music tracks were accidentally erased and only the organ solo remained and they went with that. Bob Ross would be proud! So I hope it's true :D
Handsome, classy, talented, unique, and “Unprecedented”….. Steve resonates with the words I brought to him. One in a million, singer, musician, and undoubted one of the best “performers” in the now.
I attended Catholic grade school for a few years and the open overture reminds me of the church services I had to attend even though I wasn't catholic. The song came out at the same time I was graduating and moving on to high school. I will always associate that and the song's upbeat feelings with my youth. I can't stop feeling misty eye and nostalgic whenever I listen to it.
I just want to thank so many of the artists from the 80s that brought us all so much joy and happiness with their beautiful songs and tunes, they all belong in God's book of life .

All you special people with fond memories of your departed family members, may God bless you abundantly to leave such memories to your children 🙏.
Strange video but one of the best songs ever, imo. I'm 49 now, but whenever I hear this song, I'm back in the car with my dad.

One of my favourite songs! Love it!Released 43 years ago (?), tomorrow (Dec.30th) is my 61st birthday, together with my son who will be 21.
One of my favs of the 80s.The lyrics are so philosophical.Brilliant melody
"Are you still free? Can you be?"
great lyric to a very soulsy song

I was a runaway in another state met some good people, when this song came out. I was young,in Rhode Island. But I did have fun. That was a great time.
In that case: go and discover Stevie as the leadsinger/frontman of the Spencer Davis Group!
I'd be honored if some 80s fans would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performances of PURPLE RAIN by Prince and PRAYING FOR TIME by George Michael on my YT channel in tribute to 2 of the greatest vocalist-songwriters in music history. Live acoustic with no autotune. Thanks and RESPECT to the legends.
Lol better late than never. Check out Spencer Davis output
Always the light ✌️🥰🌷😇♥️
2024 e ouvindo música de 1981!!! Obrigado internet ❤

I was on my last year of my Marine 3 yr tour and I realized that I have no where to go. I went home for 18 months and I realized that my life was being in The Marine Corps. I did 6yr and 9 months when I got out. I now live my life as the title of the song ‘When you see a chance take it.
Thank you for your service
The beginning of this song reminds me of a beautiful sunrise. It sounds so positive and hopeful. SW, one of the best ever!
Ryan Tay I am amazed that so many people have the same feeling about this song and sunrise as I!
I read somewhere the intro was a mistake. The other music tracks were accidentally erased and only the organ solo remained and they went with that.
Bob Ross would be proud! So I hope it's true :D
Me too! The Same feelings and when im going to work I remember this song
Yes!
Lol. I think my dad posted this on my account. I don' even know who this guy is, and my dad's super into this sort of music.
Love this song! Reminds me of my hubby & I in his old vauxhall viva on our 1st holiday together, winding our way through country lanes of Devon.
My friend loved this song
Who's here listening to this Classic in 2020?
always great times x
I am. Winwood is my go-to when I want to feel good about life.
Me, too...from Italy! I love Steve Windwood's songs!
Here!!!
Me
One of the best songs of all time, especially if you are middle aged or older. This one came out when I was 11.
Same for me!
Feels just like yesterday
I was born in the 80s and I have always found the song wistfully (and enjoyably) nostalgic.
Very true crafted to perfectiom
This is a classic. It tells me to love. Not to forsake a true love.
Handsome, classy, talented, unique, and “Unprecedented”….. Steve resonates with the words I brought to him. One in a million, singer, musician, and undoubted one of the best “performers” in the now.
Loved all of Steve Windwood’s songs. 😊
The most prolific song writer and musician very under rated genius.
I think this is the best advice given. Take a chance.
Perfect example of how an awesome song can overcome a shitty video.
Are you kidding? This is peak MTV
@@d.o.f.t.1578: This wasn't classic MTV - it was rather disturbing.
My dad also loves this tune. Going on 84!
Reacquainted myself with this anthem, moments ago, happily now covered in tears and snot.
Cheiro ,gosto ,sabor de uma época riquíssima em talentos musicais e singles maravilhosos... Tempos que não voltam mais !!!!😢😢😢
I just want to thank so many of the artists from the 80s that brought us all so much joy and happiness with their beautiful songs and tunes, they all belong in God's book of life .
God....he looks so young! I'm a long time Steve Winwood fan, seen him live several times, and he NEVER fails to put on a great show.
The 80s, oh the 80s! Please take me back!
I will never, ever get sick of this song. Shout out to Q (who seems to be having an identity crisis lately....) for tons of airplay.
One of those rare gems that just gets better every time, even after 40 years. Music that makes the hair stand up on your neck ⚡️💎⚡️
Need more of this today. To stop focusing on the negativity but look at what can become. Love your music.
A tear runs over my face...
i don't give a shit what anybody says.. this track is kick ass!
Great message... you don't get far by not taking chances and risks.
One of the best ones from the 80s
But the video is crap. Never seen such a good song with such a bad video. Unusual combo for sure.
Sure as fuck is "kick ass"!i!i!
No its awesome
THANK GOD, he is still with us 🧡🧡🧡 I´m sitting here, cyring and remembering that times...
It wasn't better, but we were younger ...
Greetings from Germany!
Es war viel besser!! There'll never be another musical period like the 80's. 😢🥰🎵🎶
it WAS better than this SHIT world we find ourselves in, here in 2024....esp. the U S & A....
Reminds me of March 1981, the trip to Denmark. Miss you, I was so sea sick and you packed all the cases and looked after me. x
Such an underrated singer, so many great songs.
Takes me back to the favorite decade of my life, the 80's 😸😸😀😀😀
I was in between jobs, broke, sent out countless resumes, had just left a bar, fired up a cigarette (was 1998), and this song came on the radio. Cranked it UP! Was such a POSITIVE shot in the arm. Really put the wind in my sails. Funny I remember all these years later....
So good to hear it again. Reminds me of driving uptown to my residency at St Lukes in NYC in the early 80's . A few minutes of bliss .
