I've recently started using the active recall method (thanks to Ali Abdaal). My major requires a ton of memorization, and when I need to study for a test, I revisit all of my past notes/lecture slides and create questions based off of what information I have. I then go through them and note down which one's I had difficulty with, look at my notes again and repeat until I essentially know my most difficult questions (and the answer to every single one as well). His video on it is amazing and does a much better job at explaining than me :)

I’ve recently changed my major to philosophy and while I absolutely love the readings, I’ve been struggling with how to organize my thoughts and support them. I have a ton of papers to do for finals and this was super helpful! Thank you✨
My English teacher actually recommended this technique to us! Since we're freshmen in high school and its our first time ever writing a five page essay he actually told us to do this to minimize the plagiarism and see what we needed to reference and what we could take out!

What is remarkable about this video is that in my 5 years of university, this is the first time I have felt like an essay advice was non-generic to the point where it was truly useful...thank you! & congratulations on the new grad school journey!
From Vee's technique and what I've seen online, a good structure would be:
-Restate main point/topic sentence & Introduce your claim
-Transition: "according to..."
-(red) Text evidence/direct quote, cited with author name, date, & page number
-(puple) What I understand from quote, thoughts & feelings
-(black) Key points to talk about, connected ideas and arguments, details to back it up
-Linking sentence that connects back to main topic

I just wanna thank you so much for this note taking technique because ever since I've started this method, my english grades have been greatly improved! I used to be a C+ student and now after using this method, I've been getting As and A-s which has raised my average grade from a C+ to a B/B+. ALL WITHIN A YEAR!!

I sincerely want to thank you. I dont have hours to sit down and write a paper but using this I have been able to drastically cut down on what I am needing to do because my paper or essay basically writes itself by the time I sit down to do it. All I have to do is copy and paste, change colors and put in additional contexts. I had been having such a hard time the last few semesters we will see what this does to help my GPA.

Now that's a cool working method!! My version of it is classifying every single source I use by colours - as in, I make the text a different colour (or highlight it, by that matter) for every source. This way I'll have all of my notes colour-coded so that I can reference them easily when it comes the time to do so.
I'm using this technique for my essay and it's cut my reading time by so much! Thank you so much!!!

I tend to like to print out the stuff that is digital (though if I don't then I might just listen to it through the "read aloud" feature on Windows Edge). When I read I usually draw a square around dates, country names (I'm a history student but I'm also studying classical studies). Then for cities and names I circle them. The important stuff, I underline. If it gets really messy then I draw an arrow to the main important part. I also sometimes write on the side of the page what the paragraph was about if I might need it later (like "W. Ger." or "Norway"...). It helps to just buy used books so that you could just get the notes of previous students.
For notes, when I have time, I use a to-do list (the columns make it easier to skim through) I write out phrases with page numbers beside it. Then if I have time I use highlighters (yellow for important points/thesis, orange for background, pink for definitions of Greek or Latin words, blue is important people and examples).
In essays for long essays, I tend to highlight each new point(/paragrpah) a new colour relating to the topic so if I write something offtopic I can move it to the OneNote from the GoogleDoc in case I do end up changing my mind.

I'm rewatching this now, but I used this note taking system when I was in year 12 Ancient History and it worked so well! My teacher was also very impressed ;)
I do a similar thing, only using bullet points for quotes, normal text for summaries of info, and italics for my own ideas.
this sounds really useful omg! I was just struggling rn with an essay bc I have made notes for everything but still takes me forever to find certain quotes/concepts I want to talk about and where I read them... going to apply this from now on.

Really? She's got into Oxford,one of the best universities in the world. Well done to her! What are you doing that is so remarkable that gives you the right to laugh at someone's accent or way of speaking English! Do you or no one in your family speak with an accent or pronounce words differently? English accents vary throughout UK and all over the world!
