We mourn his passing on April 20, 2022. No one plays the Schumann fantasy as Radu Lupu did in this amazing performance. His interpretation underscores the mystery of this incandescent work. The passion just streams from the keyboard, a tribute to Schumann's achievement in creating a pinnacle of romantic composition.

It's a tragedy that this man has not made a single recording in the studio -- or any recording for that matter -- since the 1980s. It would be wonderful if Lupu could be persuaded to permit the release of his 1987 Tokyo recital and this 1994 New York recital. The sound on both is more than serviceable and almost none of the repertory -- with the exception of Schubert's D.935 Impromptus -- is found in the Lupu dixcography,
