I was going to write words in homenage to this great musician . But I see I can not add anything to that is written in the comments. I write just to add my (small) presence to the general admiration for Radu Lupu, one of the fundamental pianists in my life.

Radu Lupu, Master Poet-Pianist, gives a remarkable performance of this challenging Humoresque! Schumann, with his vivid imagination, loved to tell stories. In the hands of many pianists this tale seems to ramble on and on. But Lupu holds our interest throughout, with phrases filled with beauty & insight. The result is truly enchanting! Bravo!!

But often pianists fail to make the structure clear or the story interesting, in which case the Humoresque seems to ramble rather than maintain one's interest, imo. Cheers for Radu Lupu, the absolute master at presenting the complete story!

Perhaps the best recording ever made of this work. Radu Lupu is at the level of Lipatti, Rubinstein, Horowitz, Arrau, Argerich, Brendel, Richter, Sokolov, Kempff, and the rest of the piano masters of yore. RIP Maestro🙏🏼
What an interpretation. This man is, in my mind the greatest of pianists. Such power, such delicacy from this big Romanian. I am fortunate to have experienced live performances. Captivating!
It's really tragic that his physical problems have really affected his ability to play the piano. He is a rare artist and in his physical prime, playing the piano was just not a problem for him.
I just came back to this performance after some time away. It's a commanding piano technique at the service of a great musical mind playing a masterpiece by a genius. Especially in times like these, we are fortunate to be able to draw upon people like Schumann and Lupu.
He is as in-the-moment as anyone, ever. And of course the piece shows off that sublime gift to perfection. The opening theme is enthralling, transcendent. If the listener can likewise stay aware from moment to moment, the reward is happiness.
Gripping, tender, magical, and above all, commanding. In many pianists' hands, one's imagination can be tempted to wander. Lupu compels the listener to stay with him in every moment of Schumann's adventure. Those added low b-flats sound just perfect. Thanks for the post

It rambles on and on, my foot; the pieces follow one after the other in a wonderful cyclical way. They tell one complete story.
