Cherkassky possessed a unique magic just as Horowitz did. This programme illustrates his understanding of a wide range of compositional styles which was always impressive. His command of the instrument was extraordinary, and his range of sonority held audiences in rapt attention. I was interested to hear Cherkassky's Beethoven which one never readily associated with him. This performance of the Pathetique is exemplary in terms of taste, control, and proportion.

As much as this is a very interesting historical document, it is possibly the worst performance of the Rach 3 I've ever heard. Most of the large chords were not correct and he simply couldn't play it. Absolutely dreadful

H and H - Long ago I was sent a tape of a Lewenthal recital, in the UK in 1966, that included four Liszt "miniatures", since lost. I haven't seen this recital posted, unless I've missed it somehow. I think it included the Sonata too. Any help on this?

Such exceptional playing. Jorge Bolet used to speak so highly of her. Her close association with the Horowitz's has to tell you something about her musicianship. Thank You for putting this up! Beautiful playing.

晚年手指机能下降严重造成错音很多，中年后的演奏缺乏韵味，平淡无奇。最好的演奏生涯就是七八十年代，那个时候是无可替代的。
