    Chess has been having a resurgence in popularity this year so I have finally acquiesced to semi-popular demand and started to play a bit. First, let's hone our skills and get a little more warmed up and then let's conquer chess dot com one board gamer at a time.

      I haven't watched yet, but accuracy is not that important of a stat in and of itself, it entirely depends on how good your opponent played. For example if you opponent makes 1 move blunders constantly and you follow up on them the computer is going to love you, and if your opponent deploys all the trickiest tactics possible and plays an insane game they can make you look like a fool to the computer.

    Really sad to see Slasher’s Keep go, and even sadder to see the internet’s toxic commenting/backseating that drowned that series’ comment section. BoI and Chess are now my daily staples.

    • @Htown1738
      @Htown1738 3 роки тому +22

      For some reason some of NLs series just have a high amount of toxic commenters who think they're smart, especially for a creator as chill as he is.

    • @treyebillups8602
      @treyebillups8602 3 роки тому +15

      I'm pretty sure that's not the whole story about Slasher's Keep. NL said that he had to cut one series due to time constraints and Slasher's Keep was the obvious choice due to the comments. I assume if he hadn't had to cut the series, it would have gone on for longer

    • @SecretzOfMana
      @SecretzOfMana 3 роки тому +4

      When you're watching someone play a game, a lot of people will notice a mechanic that the creator isn't utilizing (especially if they know how the mechanic works). So someone comments you should've done X, and the videos are backlogged most of the time. They make the mistake several more times due to the backlog, people comment the same thing, people like the comment because "I thought the same thing!", and then the series goes away. It's a shame I loved the series, but it kind of comes with the territory. I don't think it's a good or bad thing, it's all about how the person takes it / reacts to it / feels about it

    • @soccrstar4
      @soccrstar4 3 роки тому +11

      @@SecretzOfMana There’s constructive feedback and there’s destructive derision. When comments are suggesting things to help him, they are nice (but maybe redundant). When the comments are demanding change and attempting to mock a new player, it’s just immature.

    • @SecretzOfMana
      @SecretzOfMana 3 роки тому +1

      @@soccrstar4 The thing is how can you tell when a comment is being cheeky / sarcastic in a goodhearted way or genuinely just expressing frustration, but not being malicious vs the people that are truly just making fun of him / think he's dumb / trolling or whatever you want to call it. I've made these types of comments in various series and on occasion they would get the heart from him. So I'm not sure if the types of comments that were good hearted were part of the reason or if there was truly a bunch of people being intentionally rude. I understand what you mean, perhaps I just didn't see all the comments being rude or in this particular series the backseating (goodhearted or not) was just too much

    NL, with the Caro Kann game you gave your opponent too much control over the center in the opening. Usually after he plays Nc3 you take dxe4. Then when he takes with the knight you move your light squared bishop out with a tempo on the knight. If he chooses to move the knight again to attack your bishop you just move the light squared bishop up against the pawn chain. Be careful though if he plays h4 you must respond with h6 or h7 or else your bishop will be trapped! Then you usually push the king pawn up to close the position and develop your knights and black has a solid game. Hope this helps anyone who reads this!

    when you are doing analysis and you want to see the alternate paths the computer thought was better, click on the little spyglass to the right of it. Then you can just click through the moves instead of guessing :)

    22:00 your knight was protected twice, by your bishop and the queen from d8. You should have taken the bishop for a knight, and you would just lose e5 pawn, and could actually continue the game.

    The number one thing Levy told you in the lesson was not to trade queens when you're on the attack. Also not sure why you're not taking free pawns, especially ones that lead to check

    Mr Lion I hope you dont feel pressure to suddenly get +500 Elo on your chess account. I liked your chess videos even before the Chess Lesson and if anything this is regression before the progression. The new operating system is downloading and updating. I hope you have a good day, thank you for the vids.

    it feels to me like Levy's lesson has given NL "permission" to play stuff like g5. chasing bishops away from his territory - and whilst there are SOME positions where that is a good idea, there are a lot more where it isn't, and just leaves your king looking for a new home

    He's still not seeing the lines below "__ is best" to follow the best line the engine comes up with, but i guess seeing him puzzle through the question "what would the engine prefer here?" is also good for self analysis and learning

      if i had a serious otb game , i do the self analys first as nl is doing, and only afterwards check what the machine wants
      after online blitz i just follow the computer lines , it doesnt matter that much anyways since most computer lines a non master won't see anyways

    Hey Ryan, look for the magnifying glass icon next to where it says whether your move was a blunder, etc (top right) in the analysis. If you play with it you'll quickly learn to make much better use of the provided computer analysis tools :)
    I agree the UI is not the most intuitive ever.

    Egg if you click the "show lines" checkbox when analysing games in the top right, you can see what the computer wants to play next FYI

  • @Sonian018

    If you look right underneath the moves in the analysis tab, it shows you the next few moves. Should help you understand the computer moves more. Lovin all this pogged chess!
